View Full Version : What do you consider a smark?

I just wanna know how the group classifies a person if they are or aren't one. Is it something they do, are a fan of, or the style of wrestling they watch? I sometimes get confused myself cause I hear people saying "Yeah your a smark" and then someone else will say "No a smark is this..." and so on.

So let's see how you define it.

Not to be confused with a smirk:

Oh wait, this isn't casual.

A smark is a wrestling fan who is in the know about pretty much all aspects of the business (or at least thinks he is). He generally follows all the going's ons via the dirtsheets internet. He may go so far as to rate matches himself. He has his origins in tape trading.

It is not required that a smark watch one particular style or another. Some smarks watch only WWE, some hate WWE (or at least complain about it weekly and then tune in the next week to complain about it some more) and love ROH, somehow there are CZW smarks. It seems like the smaller the promotion, the greater number of smarks in the crowd.

I would say the most important thing you pointed out there is 'or at least thinks he is'

I think you just gave a synopsis of Derek Sabato's entire life.

When people start talking about smarks I can't help but start thinking about this guy.

I think anyone who posts on places like this forum, goes to net wrestling sites to read inside info, and knows insider terms.

I'd go so far as saying it's almost required that they beleive that they and only they "really" know how it is.

OK. Apologies in advance if this is a really dumb question, but it's only just dawned on me.

Is that why Helms adopted his 'Hurricane' character? Because of the Green Lantern, hence his tattoo.

Yes I realise if I were a smark I'd know the answer to that.

I think it's from Derek Burgan's site.

It's been ingrained into me, every time I hear the word "smark" the 1st thing I think of is the Green Lantern symbol. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing :(

I think Helms was just a big fan of comics in general, and Green Lantern was his favorite.

I woudl agree with this.

And the reason Smarks are more prevelant or hardcore in smaller feds is they feel they are an integral part of it I think. They realise there 5 bucks plus 10 for a DVD each month may actualy be the $15 that keeps that fed in the black.

Unlike WWE where the millions they turn over monthly mean you cant really feel that way.
