The original version just turned 25 on June 6th, eight days ago. Discuss any fond memories of playing this masterpiece of Alexey Pajitnov.

I was going to post, "I wonder if he gets royalties for every time they make a new version of Tetris", then looked it up on Wikipedia.

Despite being the developer of Tetris, Pajitnov himself made very little money out of it. The Soviet government claimed ownership of the game, sold the rights cheaply, and gave him little. Western licensing companies such as Nintendo profited greatly from the game.
Weak sauce.
Anyway, Tetris is the goods.

Indeed it is the goods. I think given the choice between it, and eventual Nintendo copycat Dr. Mario, I'd choose Tetris 100% each time.:D

Definitely. I liked Dr. Mario tons, but Tetris is the original and the best.

You can still find it around here for $30 to $35. I thought Nintendo started to reprint Tetris DS a year ago. I don't think they have though.

I remember I never played Type B because I thought it was stupid, and then I went through periods when it was all I would play because I liked that it had an ending.

Online Tetris multiplayer with power ups was so much fun. Still plenty of people who host servers and play games last I checked.

There was actually a rather good documentary on the Discovery Channel a couple of years ago, where they showed all the cloak-and-dagger stuff that Western companies had to pull in order to get the game out from the USSR. I can't remember the name, but it was rather neat.
Anywho, Tetris is just about as classic as you can get. You can't not love it.

I think I know what you mean. Was it this (http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=8814916768652240733&ei=kuY7St-TH8-w-Aa9nN23Cg&q=tetris+documentary&hl=en)? That one was on BBC4 though it could have also been shown on the Discovery Channel. That's only the first part though. I can't seem to find the rest now.
