Just a little spin-off of the "Better Wrestler" thread. Bring out your inner-child, pretend it's 1997 the night before Wrestlemania 13, and this is a poll on wwf.com asking you who you think will win the submission match. (i.e. Who do you like more?)

I was really getting into Austin at the time, but Bret is my favorite ever. Even then, I was all about the Hitman.

If I'm a mark and it's the night before Wrestlemania 13 I probably would have voted for Bret Hart.

If it's now and I'm looking at both men as a whole and I'm voting on who I like more I would vote for Steve Austin.

Because of the poll, I have to go with Bret. The night before WM13, I wanted Bret to win and thought he would win. After WM13, coupled with the match these two had at Survivor Series, this was cemented as my favorite feud of all-time. These guys had an amazing chemistry together.

Bret did so much for Austin. As much as "Austin 3:16" made Stone Cold, the way Bret put him over also got him over. It would have been easy for Bret to go win and have Austin look sub-par. But in both matches Austin looked GREAT even with losing both. I wish there was someone at the top smart enough to do that now, and it really makes you appreciate just how good Bret was.

Right before WM 13 Bret. Give Austin a few more months and he was the man.

These two influenced me to get into professional wrestling. But I had to go with the Excellence of Execution!

Most people just dont get how popular hart was(is?) worldwide. In germany, India , South Africa, Canada and so many other places in the world Bret Hart was bigger than Austin and Shawn.

I voted Bret because I like him more, but Austin as a whole was way more popular.

Wow, this is just like 1997 all over again. 50/50 spilt.

I was orginally going to have this poll be Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels, but like Vince McMahon, I wanted to avoid any issues, so I made it Hart vs. Austin instead, but perhaps I will create that Bret vs. Shawn thread in due time so we can all see once and for all who is more loved on this forum. The P.W.I. magazine had the same poll in 96'.

Or most people just don't care. Just a thought.

Bret Hart was so much bigger than Austin that Austin drew more than Bret and Shawn!

I remeber wanting him to win and then just amazed how that match ended.

Bret Hart was so much bigger than Austin that Austin drew more than Bret and Shawn!

Certainly in america he did. But then again, all the shows are held there, most of the time anyway.

No question he earned a ton of money through his merchandise and revenue generated, whereas guys like Hart and HBK made a ton of money off their base salary contracts. Not that they didnt make enough money in other departments, but Austin is untouchable in those.

Austin also was just an awesome performer and had an edge noone ever had seen in main stream pro wrestling at the time. He was a revolutionary character... whereas Bret was more transition, between the oldschool and new school.

Austin was definitely more successful and more popular than Bret Hart. Doesn't mean Bret Hart wasn't fucking incredible in his own right... just nothing about him was revolutionary or cutting edge, like Austin. Same goes for HBM.

You're kind of...not helping your argument there.
