View Full Version : What would you think about Chris Jericho/Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVI?

I was wondering what they will do for Undertaker at WM26, and I was thinking of people Undertaker hasn't done anything with, but who is also a good enough wrestler to make sure we aren't forced to watch Mark Henry/Undertaker II.
According to OWW, Chris Jericho haven't been in a match (other than Rumbles) together since an SD! in 02 when Cena/Taker faced Jericho/????. Also, there is only like 2 other TV matches between them before that.
I think Chris Jericho/Undertaker could be a damn interesting feud and a hell of a match at WrestleMania. They haven't ever done anything. I was wondering what you guys think about this idea (Yay or Nay) and how you think they would go about it.

Been thinking about that aswell, fuck i could definitely see it happening, with jericho ending the winning streak.

I am a Jericho mark with the best of them, but I don't think they'll do it. If anyone is going to end 'Taker's streak, it will some up-and-comer who just needs that one thing to become a star (Think Lesnar beating Rock at SSlam02).

Probably,. but the jericho mark in me could see him beating Taker, making him the ultimate heel. I'm dreaming i know.

I think it wouldn't be a horrible loss for Undertaker, but "The Streak" has become such a meaningful thing that it would be a waste to not use it on a younger guy who is going to be the next face of the company (ie...Warrior over Hogan etc.)

I think that the only person 'The Streak' truly means something to is Taker. If he didn't make such a big fucking deal about it to VInny, WWE wouldn't make such a big deal over it. I would hate to see Jericho end the streak. I truly think that it should be used to MAKE an up and comer who needs the rub to really nail the ME Status.

I don't think Undertaker gives too much about the streak. They didn't even make heavy mention of it until X8 against Flair. I think they missed the boat on Randy Orton at 21, but even then it wasn't as huge as it is now.

I'd love to see The Undertaker vs. Chris Jericho, actually. The match is fresh, but both guys are such experienced veterans that it just feels like it is history waiting to happen. I actually think this may be on the cards. I mean, what other pressing program comes to mind for either guy? It fits both men's characters right now, and Jericho and Taker are both at the stage of their careers where they have a WrestleMania classic in them.
I don't, however, think that Jericho will -- and as much as I am a mark for him -- nor should end Taker's streak. It's just got too much star-building potential. Jericho is perfect to come close, and just take a Tombstone to build it up for another year against a fresher choice.
Randy Orton might have had a better chance at ending the streak if he wasn't working with an injured arm. Right now, I feel that there are three men that could really benefit most from ending the streak. John Cena is the most established, but something like that would just be a way of putting Cena into perspective against the all-time greats like Stone Cold Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan. Right now, it doesn't feel like he is there. It would be especially great if Cena was a heel.
The fresher two options, in my opinion, would be either Jack Swagger or David Hart Smith. Both men have a world of potential, are both really young, and physically have the presence where they are credible threats to Taker. Hart has his name to play off, though, so I'd maybe give the slight nudge in preference to Swagger.
A wild card, for me, would be John Morrison. If they really want to make the dude a star, and put him over as "The Next Shawn Michaels," ending "The Streak" would be a legendary accomplishment for him.

But seriously, a WrestleMania card with Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker vs. Chris Jericho is already on the way to being a potential classic.

lol, you talk as if you work backstage in the WWE. You've really got no clue about that, champ. Like Xero said, I really doubt Taker cared about it whatsoever until relatively recently.

I'd love to see it, but if Jericho ends the streak, I'd quit watching whatever program Jericho is on. Jericho really doesn't impress me that much, face or heel. He's boring to watch. Only reason I didn't take a piss break during his WM match was because of Ricky Steamboat.

that would actually be a great match..
but taker should never lose at Mania. i'm still thinking about going to Mania next year, and one of my signs will be "if taker loses we riot".. and i would. you'd hear me scream, then you'd see someone throw a chair into the ring at jericho (or whoever beat taker).. then i'd rush the ring.
and then once i was released from jail, i'd never watch wwe again. taker's done so much for wwe.. keeping his streak intact is the least they can do for him..

I'll donate to the "Bail MC!" fund.
But I agree, this is something that feels right to me, Wrestlemania and the Undefeated Streak. It's the only thing WWE has that for the most part (minus WM 19) can't really be jacked up.

I think Morrison or MVP should end the streak year after next. 20-0 is good enough. Y2J should be next year.

The build up between Undertaker and Jericho would be immense...I'd dare to say even better than the Michaels build up. Jericho's heel persona has been all about not catering to the fans, and that's exactly what the Undertaker character is about. You could even mention Jericho bringing up Undertaker's runs as the American Bad Ass or Big Evil before reverting back to the Deadman gimmick and chastising him for it.
And yeah, a chokeslam or Last Ride countered into a Codebreaker would be incredibly awesome.
In an interview with About.com, it's noted that Chris Jericho has yet to have face Undertaker in a one-on-one encounter. He's asked to compare ending his undefeated streak at WrestleMania to beating "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and The Rock to become the first Undisputed Champion.
"It would be a huge deal. Obviously it would be at the same level," Jericho said. "But Undertaker is still on crutches as we speak so if he was smart he'd would stay on crutches and stay away from me. Now that I'm on his show, it is inevitable that our paths cross. I think he has been coasting for the past few years and has been taking it easy and living on his reputation. I'm not intimidated by him and we'll see what happens once he gets back."

They need to fued, and at this point I think it can wait until Mania. It's too interesting to be explored in anything less than a Wrestlemania fued, and the streak being on the line can fuel Jericho's side of the program.

:y: touche. I'd hate to see Jericho end the streak is because he really doesn't need the rub. He can be the top heel in WWE by doing something else. I wish I had a great example of a worker who could use the rub, but I don't want to use Morrison.
Actually it would be a HELL of a way to put Shelton Benjamin on track. He's been very loyal and has 'tons of potential'. He could become the money player that everybody envisions for him.

I don't think anyone should end the streak. Orton didn't do it, and Edge didn't do it. In my opinion, if anyone was going to get the rub it would have been one of them. Cena is over enough now that he doesn't need it.
I don't think they'll be snapping it. Still, a fued with Jericho will be interesting. I don't see why him keeping the streak is a bad thing. I also don't really care if the outcome is predictable. They manage to instill doubt in the match every year, and it tells a great story.

If "The Streak" doesn't eventually put someone over (and it will put them over for life unless WWE just completely ruins the guy), then The Streak was pointless and goes against one of the main principals of wrestling: Put someone over on your way, so the business continues to succeed.

Bingo. There is absolutely no sane reason to keep Taker undefeated at WrestleMania. The moment that Taker is pinned at WrestleMania, a great moment is created. The longer they hold off on that, the more epic it will be -- granted -- but it should happen eventually.
If Jericho did end the streak, I think it'd be a great way to make Jericho the top face for the company (at least for a while). It is just such a credibility boost. Jericho could claim to be Superstar of the Year (two-time if he wins this year); the man to unify the WCW Championship and WWE Championship by defeating The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin in the same night; someone who beat three Hall of Famers at WrestleMania XXV; and the man who has held more Intercontinental Championships than anyone else in history. And that's on top of ending Taker's legendary streak.
One thing I've been thinking about, is that Jericho is sort of stuck in a heel phase right now. I guess one day, they can have him betray the beautiful serious persona he has created -- but I'd love to see his character continue to evolve, and eventually just become a face again based solely on his credibility.
Why is there no reason to keep Undertaker undefeated at Wrestlemania? Whatever happened to "Anything can happen in the WWF"?

I agree that the streak needs to end, and that it will be an epic moment. But I don't think they will throw it away on an up and comer. Perhaps 'throw it away' is poor phrasing, but I feel WWE, and more importantly Vince, won't see it that way.
This is something that has been built up for almost 8 years. I feel that as soon as they consider a new-ish guy, they will be reminded of Brock Lesnar. To put a guy over Taker at Mania would be to push them to the moon. So what happens if that guy ups and leaves 6 months later. It becomes a waste of a moment.
I think its a safe bet to say the 'Ending of the Streak' will go to somebody established, and someone that they know will have an epic match with Taker. I think it would also be a safe bet that the end of the streak would also be Takers last match.
I think that this will likely go to somebody like Jericho or Kane( although apparently Kane has already been approached about this, and turned it down, stating what many of you have, that it should go to younger talent).
I like the John Cena idea, but only if one of them were a full heel. Preferably Cena.

I don't see why The Undertaker has to retire after he does lose the streak. The man is still a hell of a performer. He's putting on the best matches of his life right now. Just because he loses at WrestleMania doesn't mean he can't come back the next year and make his record even more impressive.
While the initial win will be a star-making moment, the following year, another talent could get a VERY big rub from beating The Undertaker at WrestleMania, where he has been so successful.

'The Streak' will never be broken. It'll end like 20-0. Once Taker's retired it'll be one of the key talking points about his career. DVD's will have whole chapters devoted to it.
Undertaker will never be beaten at WrestleMania.

Just a question about Jericho vs. Taker -- would you like to see it for the World Heavyweight Title? I'm just trying to think of a match SmackDown! could offer forth that would be WM quality, and I can only really think of heel CM Punk defending the World Heavyweight Title against face Royal Rumble Winner, Jeff Hardy.
