View Full Version : UFC pull out of UK TV deal

Setanta are done now. UFC pulled out with 6 months left on the contract. They are already talking with other stations including Bravo and ESPN.

Was just asking you the same question in the Soccer forum.

Do you think a deal would get done before UFC 100?

With Sky trying to buy Bravo (and the others in that company), would that be a conflict of interests to the WWE and their affiliation with Sky? As I've heard TNA could be fucked, as there's no way Vince would want that on the same network

Setanta are officially finished.

I asked Dana White directly last week and heard the question asked at the Q&A and by like 10 other people over the Cologne weekend. They had a deal in place for UFC 99 if Setanta went down that weekend and there is already a 100% deal in place to get UFC 100 on TV. Might not be where UFC ultimately ends up but it's a banker that it's gonna be on.

Yeah the UFC website states that they will be shortly announcing the new Station in time for UFC 100.
I hope it goes back to Bravo and not ESPN.

Rob

Why? Bravo are shit. They edited the shows to hell on Bravo and they were on a day delay. ESPN will be on HD by the way.

Dave Youell

HD?

EPSN Please!

Trust me, it's two hugely different things.

Hopefully this time Bravo show them live. Only reason is that it costs a tenner a month to subscribe to the ESPN channel and I don't really have that extra bit of money at the moment.

Rob

espn here and there?

Yeah. It's not really like the ESPN you guys have. Same Disney owned company and they show sport. The simularities end there.

Let me ask you this, when was the last time you saw LIVE sport on Bravo? You think they'll be on Bravo for long if they are?

Danny Electric
06-24-2009, 09:40 PM
I have never ever seen live sport on Bravo :)
Just would rather have the chance to watch it at all.

Aparently Virgin are already in talks with ESPN about making a deal for the prem games, maybe they could do something for the UFC stuff as well?

One of the kickers for me moving to Virgin was the added in Sentanta with axcess to the UFC fights.

Would be pissed, but probably would end up getting it.

Unless they still release the UFC PPV's as events in their own right, then I could pick and choose the shows I want, I wouldn't mind that so much, as I'm generally a casual fan so that wouldn't be so bad. But it's going to cost Rob a small fortune!

Danny Electric
06-25-2009, 03:46 AM
I've watched every UFC event that has been on Setanta, so I'd be gutted not to watch each one.

Well I'm hoping that Virgin pull their finger out of their ass and do help do something about it because they'll be getting a phone call off me.

They cracked down on streams bigtime for 99. even MMA-TV died before the ME.

So I just read this, looks like UFC 100 will be live on Virgin 1.

I would love it if Five got the rights, although I know it is highly unlikely.
Hopefully as Rob has said before if ESPN get the rights then they will set up a new channel with the football as well.

It better be a free one, or I walk away from my Virgin deal

Rob

ESPN are meant to be getting into bed with Sky.

Danny Electric
07-07-2009, 09:02 PM
ESPN have got into bed with Sky, the fuckers. But Sky customers will have to pay for the extra channel.
All they are saying is that they are talking to other networks as well.

I agree with Dave, if Virgin don't sort out a deal for customers with the XL package then I may walk away too.

Any news on where UFC 100 wil be,.

Rob
07-07-2009, 10:35 PM
None.

Rob
07-09-2009, 03:27 AM
It wouldn't surprise me now if the show is on Setanta Ireland. Apparently Sky are going to broadcast this station for a week. Don't know what this means for people who didn't have a Setanta subscription or those who cancelled.

Danny Electric
07-09-2009, 04:16 AM
Just worries me that it's already Thursday and there has been no announcement on where it will be shown.

Rob
07-09-2009, 09:43 AM
Worries are now over.

UFC 100 will air LIVE in the UK... and for FREE. Temporary deal put in place for it to air this weekend on Sky on channel 433 (I think it's the racing channel) and they are gonna be streaming on UFC.com along with a marathon of other shit.

Everyone happy now?

Glad that I get to watch it online, gutted that it won't be on my TV as I am on Virgin.
I know alot of people would be pissed off that it is only on a Sky channel.
There going to show all the episodes of the top UFC 100 fights before the event and I'll miss that too.
Oh well, do you think the website will be able to handle all those viewers.

NoJabbaNoBogRoll

I'm fully expecting the site to crash during many crucial moments.

So they go from everything being exclusive to Setanta, to anyone who had Setanta with Virgin Media not being able to watch it on telly, fantastic fucking news Dana.

Jesus Christ, my laptop can barely handle iTunes and Firefox, let alone streaming a show for 3 hours, of course, I really want to huddle around my laptop watching UFC 100. For fucks sake.

Danny Electric
07-09-2009, 09:27 PM
I hope that it eventually ends up on a channel like Virgin 1, still gutted about Sat night though.
I have to be at work at 10 am on Sunday, I have a 2 year old kid who will wake me up early and so was hoping to catch a repeat or something.
That looks really unlikely.

Believe it or not, it's not Dana White's fault Setanta went out of business.

Think I'll try and get a proper early night on Saturday then, set my alarm for 3am :)

Also the weigh in's will be live tonight on the UFC website on the player that their showing tomorrow night's event, at midnight in the UK.

If that makes sense :)

You need an internet connection to have Sky or Virgin right? so the best has been done to ensure that everyone can see it. the only reason Virgin viewers are so pissed off about this is because they signed up to Virgin, because they offered Setanta for free, a deal which played a big role in sending them under. You have yourself to blaim.

Besides, didn't they determine that there were more Setanta subscribers with sky than people with Virgin all together?

Rob

Dana hates you moaning pricks anyway!

I'm not moaning about that, I'm glad that I'll at least get to see it online and that Setanta screwed everything up.
Just I have a 2 year old kid and work on Sunday morning, so I was worried that I may not be able to get to see a re-run of the show.
So I'm to blame that Virgin offered me Setanta for free :)

I read what he said to a paper earlier and I agree with what he said, he nearly had a deal set up with a channel but it didn't go through.

I'm just looking to see where it will eventually end up.

Rob
07-10-2009, 08:42 AM
This is actually the biggest platform the UFC has ever been on for the UK fans. I honestly can't believe people can bitch about anything they have done. And the bitchers aren't coming up with any better solutions either. The PPV is basically free to everyone.

Danny Electric
07-10-2009, 08:49 AM
Confused as to whether people saying I am a bitcher :)

Best option would be for Dana to ship over the whole of the UK to the event and pay for our hotel accomadation and all our food and drink and watch the show live for free ;)

Rob
07-10-2009, 08:51 AM
I think even then people would moan about where it was in the UK, the type of hotel, the free seat not being good enough and what food and drink there was available. :)

Danny Electric
07-10-2009, 09:04 AM
Yeah they'll be moaning when the cheese on sticks run out.
