Am I the only one who thinks champs shouldn't lose matches until they drop the belt?
So how does this put 'Punk in the doghouse'?
Am I the only one who thinks champs shouldn't lose matches until they drop the belt?

Apparently I didn't make the thread title drip with enough sarcasm. I'll lay it on ticker next time.
Sorry. My psychic powers are a bit below par today. [/sarcasm]

I don't think Punk is in the doghouse as much as I think that the writers just ate too many crayons as children.
I don't think they were EATING crayons...

Here's hoping that he'll get involved in some capacity but yeah, that is a bit dull.
* John Morrison b. CM Punk in a Non-Title Match
- Good back and forth action. Punks hits Go to Sleep on Morrison. Morrison gets the win. After the match they shake hands.

I for one think it will be exciting to watch Morrison defeat Punk...it should be a big step towards the glass ceiling, however, knowing WWE Logic, he could just as easily end up buried.

Punk needed to do something to generate heat, Morrison needed to do something to inch closer to the ME. Voila! THis actually makes sense. Rising face gets a non title victory that he can lay claim to after pushing to former champs to their limits....
Punk dissapointed that he lost to inferior opposition, so he heels it up a little. Good enough for me.
I however miss 15 minutes of fame.

Looks like another great week of Smackdown. :y:
As far as punk is concerned, while it may not look great for your champ to be being beat clean, he is turning heel and people are quick to forget. Plus it gives Morrison a nice rub.
Whats kind of odd is that they had Morrison beat Punk(the world champ) this week, but not Edge last week, kind of odd. Are they trying to keep Edge strong for a face turn or what?

The Punk thing seems well booked. He hasn't be overtly heel-like in the last few weeks, if you were to ignore the subtleties in his promo with Hardy and the negative reaction from a minority from the crowd.
It seems that the writers are constantly teasing us. We were all waiting for Punk to nail Jeff with the belt last week, and maybe nail Morrison this week; but he didn't. That's exactly the reason I'm excited about the inevitable - because it looks at least like it's been planned and well scripted rather than put together at the last second.

Knowing WWE he'll lose the belt to Kane on PPV before he turns heel.

Total unfounded nonsense. He lost to Kane at a useless PPV and it's already been forgotten about with the exception of a handful of cynical smarks. He has to lose some of the time

Are you really comparing CM Punk as World Champion to Triple H's reign of terror?

Ziggler/Khali may be the icing on the cake of the worst PPV of the year on paper.
Punk/Hardy will save it just barely, with Rey/Jericho assisting as well.
Everything else is gonna suck.
I'll be there ringside, so I hope not.

I'd actually be looking forward to Khali vs. Ziggler. They've had some fun matches together so far (even if you can't call them "good"). Ziggler has sold his ass off to make Khali look like a beast, and he's succeeded so far. I'm hoping it's reward time for Ziggler, and he finally pins Khali by going nuts on him with a steel chair again. It won't be the wreck you are expecting, I'll give you that much.
CM Punk putting over Morrison was very cool. It was a nice surprise, and officially fast-tracks Morrison, in my opinion. Plus, it adds more chaos to Punk's current position on the face-heel spectrum.
As for champions not losing, I do agree with that, generally speaking. Rey Mysterio used to do it, and Punk did it occasionally. I don't mind his loss to Morrison, though. It did more to help Morrison than hurt Punk. They can't have Punk losing all the time, but so far they haven't been doing that. It was just one loss to a rising star that they obviously want to be hovering around the main event scene.

I like how Punk added a few more moves in his WWE arsenal that inverted superplex was simply amazing hopefully uses it every once in a while. I think this was a better match then last weeks Edge/Morrison so it would be great to have a transitional feud for the title between the two.
Also, I don't get the hate for Ziggle/Khali sure their matches so far haven't been spectacular but they've all been fun for the most part and getting a clean win over Khali on PPV will do wonders for Ziggler. So as long as the match is short it won't detract from the PPV much or at all..... :shifty:
lol at the fan who miss spelled "straight edge".

Smackdown is so much better than everyone else. I don't even like wrestling that much these days, but Smackdown is super fun to watch. Morrison and Punk are really coming into their own and that much was awesome. Grisham and JR seem to have a lot of fun commentating their matches.

Great match. People behind the curtain are really starting to believe in Morrison. How about the reversal of Morrison's vicious knee into a half 'walls of jericho'? Superb chemsitry between these two. Can anyone of you see the maturation of their work since feuding over the OvW, I mean ECW title?
Mr. Nerfect
06-28-2009, 05:11 AM
Yeah, that match was definitely better than the ones they had in ECW. CM Punk has been wrestling for quite the while, and while I'm sure he's bettered himself, I'd have to give most of the credit to Morrison really growing as a performer.

Yeah Morrison is well on his way.
The way JR was putting him over you just know he's gonna be a world champ within 18 months. I'm enjoying JR a lot more lately than I have been for years, I liked the HBK comparison too :).

Morrison should have a run with the IC title first and beat jericho for it.

06-28-2009, 09:42 AM
TL you are definitely right. I'd hate to see Morrison win his first title via scramble (like TBK). I would like to see him grow, and work his way to the top. Maybe win the rumble? Def NOT Money in the Bank, unless he cashes same night.

Yup, exactly. Too early for him to win rumble or MITB though. Too many are rushed to the top these days. Usually it backfires.

I agree with Krimzon7, but knowing creative, I see it going this route....
Creative screws over Jeff again, punk retains title tonight. Then build up a match at Night of Champions between Punk and Morrison, SummerSlam at the latest.

06-28-2009, 07:23 PM
I think that Punk actually is taking the script, and running a little more than ususal. Of the new crop of talent, Punk is actually the only non homegrown talent. Maybe they're giving him more leeway in executing his storylines?
Just a thought, they should learn to identify which stars they could take off the teet and let work.

I'm still wondering if its JR who is behind the decent booking on smackdown or not.
