Was there ever a real reason why WWF/WWE changed from the Old Big Blue Steel Cage to the current cage/Hell in a Cell design ?
Or did the whole concept of Hell in the Cell gave them a storyline reason to replace it ?
They just changed it to match the era at the time I'd imagine.

Apparently, the steel mesh is actually safer/not as painful to work with. Who would have though big thick blue bars would hurt like fuck? (lol)

I have no basis for this, but they possibly thought the blue bar cage gave audiences clearer views of the action inside the ring.

The Blud Cage was initally put there for the Hogan/Bundy match at Wrestlemania II...
I don't know why they went back to the chainlink.

maybe they wanted it to seem harder to escape, instead of the 'ladder-like' blue cage that could be easily scaled

JS is right, it was changed because the wrestlers complained that the steel bars were way too stiff, I belive that it was Shawn Michaels and the Undertaker that asked to have the first Hell in the Cell made out of fencing so that it would be easier to work around, then about a year later they started using the fencing on the cages as well. Plus it does look more pleasing on tv then the old blue bars.
Did they consider a Cell made of those steel bars?
Shit that would be brutal.

I'd rather see a lego cage of death.

I believe so. I think that they were going to take the steel bar cage and just put a steel roof on top of it.

I heard the WWF lost a legal battle with Balls Modeling Agency over the rights to the name Blue Steel. So they had to change it.

The old school, pre-Hogan WWF steel cages were mesh, they only brought in the blue bar cage to make it easier for big clumsy roiders to climb it.
I read/heard a few wrestlers saying the mesh is actually more physically brutal than the blue bars.

Brutal it was.

I kinda prefer the steel mesh cages as they slice you open like a can opener I am sure
-The metal bars just didn't look right to me
When you say cage match it should be a cage ie the mesh cage material
