Report by David Weber and ProWrestling.net (http://www.prowrestling.net/)

Dark Match:

1. Drew McIntyre defeated Jamie Noble.

WWE Smackdown taping for 7/3/09

Smackdown started with C.M. Punk running down the events of The Bash claiming he kicked the referee accidentally. He demands an apology from Jeff Hardy for him attacking him after the match intentionally.

Teddy Long came out and said Vince McMahon liked the way he shook things up at The Bash. He announced that Jeff will get his rematch at the Night of Champions pay-per-view. Teddy announced the main event of Rated Y2J vs. Punk and Hardy for tonight.

1. Finlay defeated Ricky Ortiz. Finlay won the short match with the Celtic Cross finisher.

Backstage, Ziggler and Maria are talking about their date last night and they should do it again she wishes him luck tonight.

2. Dolph Ziggler defeated R-Truth. Ziggler gets the win with his finisher.

3. Kane defeated Rey Mysterio. Rey gets huge pop followed out by Kane. Rey hits 619. Kane counters the West Coast Pop and chokeslammed him for win. Khali came out with a chair and ran Kane off through the crowd.

Backstage, Chris Jericho said his rematch will be next week. He was joined by Edge, who talked about how Punk and Hardy are not on the same page and therefore will not be a challenge.

4. Cryme Tyme defeated The Hart Dynasty. JTG got worked for a while until he made a hot tag to Shad, who pinned David Hart Smith for the win.

5. Melina defeated Maria, Michelle McCool, and Layla in a four-way. Melina won with split leg drop on Layla.

John Morrison and Teddy Long were backstage singing Michael Jackson songs about Morrison beating Punk last week.

6. Edge and Chris Jericho defeated C.M. Punk and Jeff Hardy. The tag champs came out first followed by Punk and Jeff. Punk sold the eye throughout the match by not taking the tag from Jeff. After finally getting the advantage, Hardy slapped Punk on the shoulder to tag him in. Punk traded back and forth offense with the champs. Punk got beat down and crawled to tag Jeff, but Jeff oversold an eye injury of his own. Punk hit Jericho with the GTS, but Edge got a blind tag and speared him for the win.

Dark Match:

1. Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio defeated Edge and Chris Jericho in a steel cage. Extra quick match that lasted maybe a minute. Jeff hit the Twist of Fate on Edge. Rey with an assisted 619 from Jeff on Jericho. Then they both hit the Swanton and splash respectively and got the double pinfall.

Dolph Ziggler will be the ultimate man if he starts banging Maria, even in kayfabe.

Some of the booking sounds questionable on paper, but we'll see how it turns out.

Punk is the only worthwhile thing on this show, wow. So glad Edge and Jericho are on both shows now. Also lol Cryme Time beating the Canucks.

I don't get that result in particular. Why bring them up to SmackDown! only to job them straight away!?

Could be the start of a feud between the two teams, in which case I wouldn't mind too much. You could have the Harts claiming that they're tougher because they trained in the Dungeon, and Cryme Tyme says they're tougher because they're from the streets of Brooklyn, etc.

Sounds like Punk is going full-blown heel, which should be great. No doubt the Punk/Hardy rematch will have some kind of No DQ stipulation if Punk keeps trying to weasel out of confrontations due to his eye "injury".

That's what I was thinking, they'll feud for a while until they finally have to meet to decide the #1 contendership for the Unified Tag Team titles, which, personally, I feel Cryme Tyme are long overdue for a lengthy run with.

Reading further into the spoilers, it seems that The Hart Dynasty and Cryme Tyme are going to trade wins. Cryme Tyme's Word Up segments on SmackDown! are ferociously entertaining, so it doesn't bother me that they're getting to hang in them with Tyson Kidd & David Hart Smith.

SHIT.

Fuckin' Edge appears to need time off. He apparently injured his ankle @ a house show Friday night against Jeff. He was running towards Jeff, and something happened to his ankle, and he was immediately helped out of the arena by EMT's after apologizing to his fans. And so, it sounds pretty nasty at first glance, but time will tell. Hope the Unified Tag Championships won't have to be vacated or that Jericho will need a replacement.

Oh, what a nightmare this is.:'(

Ivan B. sent along the following:
I am attending a WWE house show here in San Diego, CA. and I just witnessed Edge get injured during his match with Jeff Hardy.
He was running towards Jeff and appeared to have either twisted or even broken his ankle. His foot was in a very awkward position. The match was immediatley stopped.
EMTs came running to attend him and he was helped out of the ring. He even took the time to take the mic and say “sorry” to the fans.

That article has been on literally DOZENS of sites for at least 3.5 hours or so give or take a few minutes. This fucking sucks big time. At least if it was Jericho, Christian would be the fucking perfect replacement. But OH NO, it just HAD to be EDGE instead.:nono:

I do hope he won't need surgery.

One website said that the news came down from one of the more trustworthy dirt sheets too...

strangely enough if you type "wwe superstars spoilers 7/9" on Yahoo! you will get the usual list of dozens of websites and they all have this news. See for yourself. Not tryin' to be lazy here, it's just they pretty much all have that text from that Ivan B. fellow except a few...hang on i'll find links though

http://www.prowrestling.com/article/news/13058 (this is the most specific so far, it says stuff about it may be a torn Achilles tendon, and they are going to try to edit some stuff and tape a match for Monday where the titles can be dropped to The Legacy. Also, they are apparently going over the shot footage of Edge v. Khali to see if they can find a spot to claim where an injury occured in that match rather than at the house show...weird, and quite infuriating, too.)

CM Punk's facial expression after saying "just say no" was brilliant. The man has such a shit-eating grin. I'd say that SmackDown! needs a top face if they're going to turn him heel, but I think people might actually pay more money to see Punk as antagonist than they would with him as the hero. At least at this stage of his career.

I also love how many times he stressed "I don't take shortcuts." I'm not sure if this was intentional or not, but all I could think about was how much of a shortcut Money in the Bank is. While I love it when heels are honest and have a point -- and Punk certainly does (without yet being fully heel) -- I just love that there are little chinks in his arguements here and there.

Also, Cryme Tyme are stars to me. I'm actually looking forward to seeing them each week. Their segments with Jesse have been funny, and they are passable in the ring. They have such charisma that I can see both men being valuable stars in their own right. Shad Gaspard is money, in my opinion.
