Despite a very poor voter turnout, Rocky was still able to emerge victorious once again. The spunky Italian-American joins Forrest Gump as the only 4-Time winners in this competition. That means one more victory and we have our very first inductee into the TPWW Movie Hall of Fame. Can Rocky succeed where Gump failed?
That all depends on how strong the force is with young Balboa.

Doing Flickchart has made me realize that I'm really not a huge Star Wars guy. I love the mythology and the characters. They are truly classics. I think they deserve many accolades, but being better than Rocky is not one of them.

Empire belongs to a handful of only a few movies that I consider my "favorite." I love a lot of movies, but I don't think one beats Empire for me.
There are only a couple others that I would even put with it.
A lot of the time, when asked my favorite movie, I answer Empire Strikes Back. There are two other movies that also come up, depending on my mood.
(No, they aren't the other two movies in the trilogy)
This might be the first time I've voted Rocky

I can't believe how amazing of a sequel this movie is. Only rarely do we see sequels that approach the quality of the original, and it's even more rare for it to surpass it.
This movie does both.
That's ridiculously impressive in any venture, but it's even more amazing when you think that the shoes it had to fill were those of Star Wars.
Not to mention it's the first sequel to really do any of that. Movies like T2 and The Dark Knight would do it later, but before Empire sequels were awful and noticably rehashed.
It's also got the twist ending that blew everyones mind.
Can't believe a sequel introduced characters as memorable and timeless as Yoda, Lando, and Boba Fett.
Plus it turned Darth Vader from a great movie villain into arguably the best of alltime.

The thing I like about both these movies is while they are both classic Hollywood epics, neither ends the way you want it to. The bad guys win in both movies. But you don't care.

I would argue that the reason Empire is ten times better than A New Hope is because A New Hope isn't as meaty. It has to spend so time in exposition and explaining the force and then they blow up the Death Star. Empire is basically a Round Two, only you don't have to spend all the time on exposition; you jump right in with Hoth.

Empire Strikes Back.
HUGE Star Wars fan. Not a huge Rocky fan. It'll be interesting to see what films ESB will go up against if it wins.
I have not voted previously in these 'Rocky' rounds because I have never actually **shock/horror** sat through any Rocky movie in its entirety.
Plus I've been unfamiliar with most of it's competition in these rounds so didn't think it fair to vote.
However, I have always liked the Star Wars saga and Episode V was awesome, thus SWEVTESB gets my vote.

I really like Rocky but I was really astonished to see it do so well, especially beating Forrest Gump :wtf:. But I am just not a huge Star Wars guy at all. I mean I like it well and everything but it has just never drawn me in like it seems to so many others. Thus Rocky gets my vote but I will be surprised if it wins again

I would argue that it's better because it delves deeper into the characters emotions, and is a more challenging film. The meat that is added comes from the expansion of the mythology, and the freedom of knowing that it won't be their last dance, and loose ends can be left loose.
In ANH, Lucas had to keep the movie self contained, while planting seeds. It's obvious that it starts in the middle of something, and has intentions of a future, but at the same time the property was unproven and it had to work on its own, just in case there weren't sequels.
It follows a more traditional act structure, and ends happily, while still having the baddies live to fight another day.
Once it became the biggest movie of alltime, there was freedom to do what they wanted. Fortunately, that meant go to new places, both literally and thematically. A lesser creation would have fallen on its face.
So, I agree with what you're saying..."from a certain point of view." I think there's more to it than that.
Yes, it benefits from being the second act with no real beginning or end, but its also only that way because it had the balls to be. So I think the greater credit should go to the creation, and not where it falls in the timeline, since that was their decision to make, and one that hadn't been mapped out for them.

I'm not going to vote cause I haven't seen either of them. To be honest, I saw Star Wars New Hope and didn't think it was great, just thought it was good. I've seen Rocky IV and Rocky Balboa, and those were awesome, so if I had to vote I'd vote for Rocky. But I won't in all fairness.

I prefer Rocky but theres no way Rocky deserves to the first and only film to win 5 in a row so I think I'll abstain.

I love both movies. Like someone said earlier, neither movie ends the way you want it to, but in both cases it adds to the film as neither copped out and did an easy ending.
Tough choice, but had to go with Empire.
Empire Strikes Back...
Now if it had been Rocky II, then my vote may have been swayed for the Itailian Stallion.

Now this one is a toughie. As much as I like Rocky and all, nothing inspired me more to write than Empire. The immortal Vader line, Lando's turn, Han frozen in carbonite and Chewie's reaction to it, along with Han telling Leia "I know"...
It was an epic. Sorry, Rock.
