View Full Version : Should they bring back time limits for TV?
Was just thinking. Most TV matches are under 10 minutes anyway, so why not just institute a time limit for at least the lower-card matches? At the very least it gives them another way to end a match.
Don't know, just a thought I had.

I always used to love in WCW how the only time the ring announcer would give updates on how much time is left in the time limit was when the match was going to end in a draw. Anytime you would randomly hear "Ladies and gentlemen, there are 5 minutes remaining in this match, 5 minutes" you knew it would be ending in a draw. And then he would start doing the countdown at 10 seconds.

I would like to see them bring back the time limit. It added another dimension to the match.

The time limit was a good thing. Some matches just seem to drag out forever when they really shouldn't.

WCW started re-doing it at the end of their tenure. Worked quite well. Like Xero said, just gives an extra possible ending, plus the possible suspense of someone not being able to put someone away in time, or the face holding on for just long enough against a dominant heel. No-one going over anyone else is also sometimes useful. A draw is still a result, which is better than a pointless DQ at times.

Yes, I think that would be a good idea.
More options is always better, plus it can give the matches a more realistic feel, like a sport. Remember when they had that countdown clock to the WWE championship matches between Orton and HHH. That made the previous matches, which had no time limit, look insanly fake, if there is no time limit how do you know when the next match is going to start. Putting in time limits would fix this.
They do it in Japan and I think it could work here.

It would be cool for Smackdown, to try and further the idea of the separate brands, with separate rules, like a time-limit or maybe even try some old NWA Rules (not the over the top rope rule) on smackdown or ECW :s.
Is it just me (or maybe the colour of the ropes) or does Smackdown enforce and use the tag rope more often (at least a few years ago, before unified tag belts...back around the smackdown 6 slash Los Guerreros tag team reign)

One thing I hated about time limits for tv was back in the 80's the match would still be in progress and the announcer would scream that they are outta time and you'd be mad because you wouldn't get to see who won

no.... unless they were strictly adhered to... in WCW they had 10-minute time limits, with the bell ringing at 7 minutes....

They should have t he time always displayed too, like UFC, so when it is coming down to the end it adds a little excitement.

You mean like how some Rumble entrants are shorter or longer than the actual time?

Is it? I never noticed that!

I like the idea. I wouldn't think it would really factor in or should factor in that often, but it's usually a good way of having two undercard guys going out and giving you a solid fifteen minutes and then having them continue the feud. I would imagine the WWE would mess it up by overusing the finish, filling the fifteen minutes with commercials, or both.

I could see it now...
"this match is brought to you by Dave & Busters with a 10 minute time-limit" time counter brought to you by Dave and Busters, than the next match can have the "snicker ticker"

I remember thinking how hilarious the "3 Minute" matches that were made infamous by Bischoff's cronies, Rosey and Jamal were...IIRC, they'd usually come out and start beating down whoever was competing if the match wasn't over in exactly 3 minutes.

I'd like to see time limits back. Most matches don't even go longer than 10 minutes anyway. It's an easy way to extend or start a feud. Two guys wrestle, but reach the 10 minute rule so next week they get 15 minutes, but reach the limit again. Every match doesn't have to have a time limit.
Yeah, I reckon time limits would be good for all the reasons already mentioned... also adds a bit of legitimacy to the matches. JR has been calling for this for years.
