Okay so my sister is going to university next month and will be living on residence. Since she's getting a laptop and all I was wondering if it would be better for her to get a laptop lock. Question is, should i get a laptop lock that opens with a key or a combination?
I have no experience in these sort of things at all so if anyone can help me out all, give me advice based on personal opinions etc, please help me out.
I obviously don't expect it to provide total protection but which one (key or combination) provides better protection?
Thanks!!!

Either one is good as long as you buy a good quality lock. I'd just go with a combo lock just because I don't have to worry about losing a key.
Besides, if someone REALLY wanted to take the laptop a set of wire/bolt cutters will do the job nicely.

I had one but I never kept my laptop on my desk for that long and I was way too lazy to lock it all the time

Never locked mine when I lived in the dorms, used to just put it in my draw if I was leaving for an extended period of time.

Honestly, have her beat the shit out of it.
I don't mean drop it, but make it look REALLY shitty.
Pull any and all logos off, get some sand paper, and scratch the ever loving piss out of the plastic cover. Make it look really shitty.
Nobody steals old school electronics, and if you make it look old and useless, it will appear worthless to the eyes of a crook.

There are some desperate people out there that will steal anything, regardless of condition.

Yes, but if they can't get anything for it, it lowers your chances of it getting stolen.
I know my laptop probably will never be stolen, because of the ratty condition the bag is in, also, it looks like it has been run over. It also has no stickers, or logos on it. Making it un-pawnable.
That, and if their crack dealer can't identify if its good, they won't give them anything for it.
If they want it bad enough, they'll bash her fucking head in with a club, and take it from her, after getting the combination / key for it.
