Well, it seems his MW title match is in jeapordy because he failed to show up for the drug test to get licensed to fight for the next Strikeforce event.

He was "Training."

It should also be stated that Nick Diaz did fail a drug test in the past (testing positive for Marijuana)

1. No idea, it just is. Should it be is another issue altogether.

2. He's Nick Diaz. He's a high school dropout and a pot smoking wanksta. He has the common sense of a cedar stump.

why is it "ridiculous" ?

If that's the rules, you abide by them. This is a profession. This isn't the local YMCA. Be a pro.

Kris P Lettus

If it was a performance enhancing drug it would be one thing.. Weed is prolly the furthest thing from enhancing performance that you could possibly take..

So what?

If it's a banned substance, then it's a banned substance. You don't use it.
If they say Pepsi is a banned substance and they have a way from testing for it, then you stay away from Pepsi.

What's so hard to understand about this? This is their proffession.

Kris P Lettus

God, you are so annoying sometimes..

Just because "rules are rules" doesn't mean I have to like or agree with them..

Fabien Barthez

If they said Pepsi was a banned substance, there would be outcry at the rediculous nature of it, and it would never get passed in the first place since it places no advantage to the person who consumes it.

Many people believe in the natural powers and qualities of marijuana and also believe that the social stigma is the only reason it remains in it's legal state. In addition to this, they would argue that it has the same powers of advantage as the afore mentioned pepsi, making it's listing on the banned susbstance list just as farcical.

It's all in a persons perception of a situation that creates difference in opinion.

That one of my favorite fighters beat the shit out of Gomi (not Sakuraba) who at the time was one of the most dominant fighters in Pride and got the "win" taken away because he failed a piss test for a drug that really only would hinder a fight preformance.. There you go again, being an annoying stickler..

I can't have opinions on a sport I love because I do not actively participate proffesionally in it??

That is a ridiculous bit of logic..

Fabien Barthez

Its like drink driving. You may well able to control the car adequately after a few beers, but if you are over the limit, and get caught, you are fucked. And it is all a result of you risking the drink in the first place.

i think it's not so much performance enhancing as it is setting an example and being professional. plus it makes no business sense to turn a blind eye to athletes using a drug of any kind.

i think it's not so much performance enhancing as it is setting an example and being professional. plus it makes no business sense to turn a blind eye to athletes using a drug of any kind.

Ah, but again, that is the social stigma I spoke of. Many people argue it is of the earth, and has a spiritual history and so on, and feel very strongly about the negative laws and connotations around it.

He would argue that it has no right to be in it's criminal state and is morally just.

The Mask
08-09-2009, 08:32 AM
if being of the earth makes everything good for you they should go and smoke ricin instead. it's a bit of a weak arguement at best.

really though i think it's astounding how many professional athletes do shit like this. even rooney/berbatov/macheda smoking baffles me a bit, i figure you have a pretty short window of time to be at your sporting peak and you might as well stay clean for it. if you want to do all that crap after you retire then why not?

Fabien Barthez
08-09-2009, 08:43 AM
I agree. I smoke weed all the time, but I have no productive reason not to. Nor does it effect my job.

By of the earth, I was referring to the spiritual history of its use, and that it is used in it's natural state. Heroin is 'of the earth' by your reasoning, but not by mine.

The Mask

Fabien Barthez
08-09-2009, 09:41 AM
Yeah, but poisonous mushrooms, and ricin aren't banned substances. For many reasons, but fundamentally because it garners no advantage over your opponent.

I still agree, It isn't legal and therefore belongs on the banned list, but some people have stonger beliefs regarding erb.

Fabien Barthez

The Mask
08-09-2009, 09:48 AM
well perhaps but your issue can't really be with mma on this one. it's controversial enough as it is without them legitimizing marijuana too. there are already enough politicians after getting it banned, so to turn a blind eye to illegal drug use would absolutely slaughter them as a business and give their opponents more than enough ammunition against them.

Fabien Barthez
08-09-2009, 09:55 AM
Well, at some point they had an option to begin testing for it, or just leave it unspoken.

It might have been a state requirement to begin with, and you are right. my gripe is with the law surrounding it generally. But life shouldn't be about making one or the other choices about 2 things in your life, that in reality have no problems co-existing as factors in your life and provide no unfair advantage for your fight career. Beauracracy ruling something it has no right to rule.

I never ment for you to grasp on to the statement that it bothers you too much since you're not a pro fighter. But you did. oh well.

But once again you zero in on the minute and overloook the grander picture.

Maybe you're his dealer or something. -Gotta be. Because it is really weird how upset you seem to be that a rule that the fighter broke was enforced. You get mad at the governing body or whatever instead of saying that you like that fighter and that he f*ck*d up.

Kris P Lettus
08-09-2009, 12:08 PM
It's ridiculous for you to say we can't have an opinion on something because we are not actively involved in it.. If that is the case, you can't post about baseball, movies, tv, pro wrestling, etc etc etc.. I do disagree with the governing body.. I think it's a stupid rule and for them to "take away" a win is ridiculous.. If that is the case, lets go Balco and take away any and all World Series wins from any team who had players on that list..

Fabien Barthez
08-09-2009, 12:14 PM
Yeah. Do it. Failure to adhere to rules like this should result in disqualification. No matter when it is discovered. If you partake in something that has a set of requirements in order for you to participate, no matter of the reasons for the requirements, failure to adhere to them is cheating. And cheating should always result in revoking the participation of the individual or team.

Ok fine, it is exactly the same thing

But Rob responded to a bet made by you, just before the show started, with no idication that you won't be viewing the fight live. It was the activity of someone looking to spice up the live occurance. When it said last post by:rob, and the time of it, you must have known it was going to be in reference to the subject of the thread, that you made.

Positive drug tests are a little more black and white than that, especially regarding weed.

Takanori Gomi*

Walks right through Gomi's offence because he's so high and locks in a gogoplata

On April 10, 2007, the Nevada State Athletic Commission announced that Diaz failed the drug test that was taken shortly before his win over Takanori Gomi, testing positive for marijuana. The NSAC declared the fight a "No Contest" and suspended him for 6 months with a fine of 20% of his earnings ($3,000) won from the fight against Gomi. The Commission felt that the result of Diaz's THC test, an enormous 175, was a contributing factor in his performance during the fight. Commission Chairman Dr. Tony Alamo said that while a result of 15 is considered positive, the NSAC has a threshold of 50 for athletes. He also believes they "feel very comfortable that everyone that tests positive in Nevada is truly positive."

Dr. Alamo went on to say, "Mr. Diaz was 175. This creates a unique situation. I was there at this fight and believe that you were intoxicated and... that it made you numb to the pain. Did it help you win? I think it did."

Well, the forum moderator made a thread just for that, but like a stupid person, he didn't know that that was unbelievably fucking stupid. So if you ask for a stream, you will get it, if anybody has one via PM or rep. If you have one, inform the masses that you do and send it using the same methods, or there might be a private group being created for streams, if someone bothers their arse to make it.
