...or not.

WWE has come to terms on the release of SmackDown Superstar Ricky Ortiz as of today, Aug. 8, 2009. We wish Ricky the best in all future endeavors.

Seems like the new way to release people in WWE is to job them out within seconds, THEN cut them. First Kendrick, now Ortiz.

I thought Ortiz had some charisma to him...his motivational speaker gimmick seemed to get decent enough "someone please punch this guy in the face" heat. Ah well.

no big loss there.... don't think he had that "it" factor..... people can blame it on the gimmick.... but IMO he's just not that good

I guess that means Tyler Reks will only last a few months as well. Seems like a similar guy.

I never really got into Ricky Ortiz, but I think the guy got it hard on here. He has charisma and could handle a mic well. He also had a good look -- his character just wasn't a really high priority. I mean, his finishing move was a splash. Ortiz is no Ultimate Warrior.

The man could have made a good mid-carder if allowed to develop more, but I guess he wasn't that young and wasn't ever going to be intentionally used as a main event talent. Not a grave loss for the company. Always sad to see someone lose a job, though.

It didn't help that he was on SmackDown!. He doesn't really seem to fit the type of show they are trying to put forward. He would work a lot better on RAW, where entertainment seems to be the first priority, and he would only need to go out there for three minutes on a good night. He could have squashed guys like Noble and Kendrick and gotten pretty over as a mid-card face.

A trade for Chavo Guerrero, or something, would have been good a while back.

Can't say I care too much, vince was obviously bored and felt like firing someone. I swear he does this atleast once a week now...

Not really much place for him in WWE to be honest.

This is true. Hopefully the guy tries FCW again and improves his game. If he gets better pretty quickly, then his natural charisma should get him back into the WWE. He reminds me of Cryme Tyme when they initially got released, although Cryme Tyme were undoubtably more over.

My only problem with you, Dan...only problem...is that you introduced those sigs to me before I have fully mastered the ability to enter images on the internet and create a disconnected universe where they are more than interactive.

Ricky Ortiz was crap. His hair and his stupid pants had nothing to do with him as a character, and they were both ridiculous. And the towels...what the hell is that? And this guy, with track pants, Terrible Towel rip-offs, and a god damn Rooney haircut...is a motivational speaker? What the hell does any of this have to do with anything? They're all just disconnected elements, slapped onto one guy who obviously doesn't care about presentation. And like Noid said, his finish was a splash. Called "The Big O". What the motherfucking fuck? This guy is like a human junk drawer. There is no depth, meaning, or simple consistency in whatever the hell he is, so nobody's going to notice that he's even gone.

What's interesting is that last week I read a report that Ortiz was wrestling a returning Eugene at a house show, and that they would probably feud when Eugene was brought back to TV. Guess not.

Maybe they decided nobody wants to see Nick Dinsmore come back as a retard.

I liked him. Thought the rally towel thing was pretty clever when he started it. Plus he was an XFL castoff which could have worked it's way into his character at some point. There are plenty of people who are much more useless than Ricky Ortiz that could have been released. So, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that WWE released him...

Any former XFL guy should simply have the "former XFL guy" gimmick.
