So none of my friends are wrestling fans so I never get to talk about it anymore. So I am going to use you, at least those who read this and force upon you my current problems and solutions with WWE tv.
First thing first, WWE's biggest problem for now and the future is the now and the future. There Isn't all that much depth in either, talent wise. Wrestling as a business is pretty much the same as it has always been, and certain companies are proving that simple realistic yet creative storylines can draw an audience. WWE seems so much right now be stuck on cookie cutter molds. A lot of guys WWE has produced like Cena, Orton, Batista, Rhodes, Diabiase... basically a lot of guys who have the ideal "look" seem to be the biggest problems when to comes to entertaining me (and others) and it seems the reason to me is that they are forced to replicate (in the ring) what Austin, Triple H, and The Rock did in the late 90's and early new century. And it just so happens that the guys who don't have the ideal Vince McMahon "Superstar Look" are the most entertaining guys. Some examples are CM Punk who has the ROH style and helped create the style in the US, Jeff Hardy who is measly looking but has really cool effective looking moves and a catchy character to the fans who want an edgy superstar more like they would like to be. John Morrison has the HBK look going on for sure, and a style that is comparable but totally his own in every single way. I have never seen another wrestler do all the moves he does, he is really creative. His gimmick to me is lame but oh well its gets over. Those examples and I can't belive I am about to say this but, Mark Henry who over the summer and recently with that sweet face turn has obviously got some drawing power in him and can really get the crowd going. Don't forget he is a 13+ WWE veteren, and has deffinatly started to show that with his presence and character, and even in ring skills, simple, bad ass and effective.
So with that in mind, the first thing I would love to see WWE do is realize that some of the biggest and best wrestling personalites were from the mind of some Hollywood dick head who just needed a job and had good credits on his resume. They need to know that the best characters in history were created by great wrestlers who understood their job. There are guys that just have to break through now matter what Vince McMahon wants, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, and CM Punk are prime examples of this.
Bottom line, WWE's developement is all shades of fucked up if the biggest criteria on the acceptance list is a physical copy of Randy Orton, Triple H, or Batista. Search the indy scene for the right guys who really connect with the audience. Some of the best guys in the American indy scene wouldn't even think of going to the WWE because they would be abused like a jobber from 92. Offer the strong indy guys from ROH, PWG, WWC, all these succesful indy promotions. Afterall what keeps them alive? Really good wrestlers are are different than what Vince's carbon machine produces. I could go through a list of people who I would love to see in WWE development but it would read just like anybody's with the top guys in the world that aren't in WWE.
Now they need to spend a year or two with this new talent in FCW get them totally ready to be themsevles in WWE, it took CM Punk a while to be able to be himself in WWE like he was in ROH, they just need the confedence and space to do so. Somebody has to say to Jack Swagger that he needs to be the best he can be, put on the most interesting matches, figure out awesome ways to be a cowardly heel. I mean how cool would it be if say Cena wins at Summerslam () and a week later Swagger faces Cena to be number one contender if he wins he gets a title shot at the next PPV, however throughout the match he is bested. So he takes him out to the ringside area, throws him around, hits a powerbomb on the mat and then ties him to the ringpost with a sound cord and gets the win via count out. How much of a cowardly heel would that put him over as?
I just want the individuals, the creative never before seen characters that WWE had when I was a kid. And the thing is, sure they don't have a lot of help right now when it comes to the future. But with the roster they do have they can certainly get by a year or two. Just take advantage of what you have. CM Punk, Jericho, Big Show, MVP, Morrison, the Hardy Boys, The Hart Foundation, Swagger, Christian, Mark Henry, and all the other new guys they have. Just work them and stop throwing away talent when they don't amaze you on their first try. Wrestling is a tough art, its not easy to be amazing, WWE needs to learn patience with wrestlers. And now is the perfect time, WWE is PG right now, in five years that will change probably. In this time don't worry about having radically different gimmick matches all the time. Teach the fans to respect a good wrestling match, teach them to respect the art of it like ROH does, and then a lot of feuds, angles, and storylines make a lot more sense. This is getting long so I will wrap up, so give your thoughts to what I just wrote or offer your own opinons on ways to make the WWE be as strong as it should be.
