Panthers stat line is baffling. 238 yards in the first half, only points came on a safety.

Broncos/Ravens
The Ravens are on their way to losing 5 straight. The Ravens are going to get lit up by the Broncos. Im happy that I will be at work and not see it.
It could be 9 straight but fortunately they play the Browns on MNF in a couple weeks though I guess they could lose that game too. All the high hopes I had after starting 3-0 have been flushed down the toilet. If they even manage to finish .500 I'll be amazed.

I think its considered a rivalry game but its really not. I think the city of Cleveland doesn't really care enough to hate Art Modell any more when he doesn't even own the team and their own team is horrible.
As far as Im concerned, the only two rivalry games the Ravens have are with the Steelers and the Titans out of the old AFC Central days.

So fucking tired of players signaling first down on a fumble. They almost always do it before anyone can try to recover and it's almost always a sure thing that the team doing it most DOESN'T have possession

This is the first chance I've had to comment after going to last nights's PPV:
Say what you want about the questionable call on the play before Favre's fumble, but if that's a no-call then the refs definitely made it up to the Vikings almost immediately with a no-call of a block in the back on Harvin's return.
Several media people are saying that Willie Parker was talking himself out of town this past week, but until Mendenhal can learn to keep two hands on the ball, ESPECIALLY when making a stupid-ass jump over the pile on (I think) second-down, the Steelers better keep Willie around.

C'mon Krispy don't be an ignorant homer. You don't use the 2nd pick in the draft on a decoy. You know as well as I do that the Saints drafted him to be the next Marshall Faulk. At best he's been the 5th best RB in that draft class.

Doesn't matter.. As long as we have a between the tackle running game (which we do with PT Cruiser, Bell, and Hamilton) I don't mind Bush being a "utility player".. He lines up wide or in the slot almost half the time anyway.. He also has "big play potential" anytime he gets the ball in space.. E.g. the play I posted..

Requiem never steered me wrong before, Colts it is.
Actually dude, you're better off just watching games this year without a particular team to root for, or at least the next few weeks. If you really enjoy football you can do that and find your team that way, which is the best way IMO. Find a team you enjoy watching, as opposed to one with good stats and a good record. That's how I found Denver, though it was during their Super Bowl years. But I was like 8 at the time and didn't really understand all that yet, I just loved watching John Elway and Terrell Davis play. When I first started getting in to football I tried to just pick the Saints, didn't work.
I love the Broncos, but I've seen so many Texans games that I basically developed a liking for them because they may not have won that often when they first started, but you could really see the guys playing their asses off. I remember when they first beat the Colts and Titans. Immense feeling of joy for them. Easily consider the Texans my second team.
So yeah, my advice is to just enjoy the games for a while and find a team you really enjoy watching, not a team who's stats you like. Much better off that way.

D's man up on Bush every play regardless of stats.. Also, before his injury last season, he had 3 of the 6 total special teams TD out of the entire NFL..
You mean as opposed to leaving him unmarked? Wow.
And I've seen him return enough punts for a loss to know that the 1/100 that he actually breaks through is still not worth what he's being paid. Josh Cribbs is a better returner than Bush will ever be and is getting paid like 1/10th the money.

I think Vegas is trying to win money back now by duping people into believing the Ravens are favorites since people are betting heavy on favorites and winning a lot as of late, by having them at anywhere from -3 to -4. theres no legit reason in the world they should be favorites, I half expected them to be 4 point dogs at least even though the game is in Baltimore.
If you wanna win some easy money, take my advice and take the Broncos +3/4. Its gonna be ugly. Im not betting anymore for awhile but seriously, this is the easiest money you'll ever make.
Reggie Bush says Saints can go undefeated
Posted by Mike Florio on October 28, 2009 7:36 AM ET
It took six games for folks to widely accept the reality that the Saints are really, really good.
One of their biggest-name players has embraced it, too.
Appearing on Sporting News Radio's The Monty Show, running back Reggie Bush was asked whether the Saints can go undefeated.
And Bush thinks they can.
"Can we go undefeated?" Bush said. "Yes. I do think we have the players, the chemistry, we have the heart and dedication, the coaching staff, we have the players."
Then again, Bush's opinion needs to be put in perspective. When discussing the criticism he has faced since entering the NFL and not performing like this generation's Gale Sayers, Bush seemed to predict that he'll eventually be named the league's MVP.
"Once I do win an NFL MVP, once we do win a Super Bowl, once I am in the Pro Bowl, it's going to be that much more special because of all the criticism that I had to come through and because of the work I've put into it, it'll mean that much more to me and I'll appreciate it more," Bush said.
Though the Saints currently have the inside track to the NFC Championship, Bush has a long way to go to draw a single MVP vote.
He has 175 yards rushing (3.9 yards per carry) and three touchdowns. He also has 144 yards receiving, and zero scores. And he's averaging a paltry 4.1 yards on punt returns.
So the Saints are very, very good. And their achievement is even more impressive in light of the fact that they used the second overall pick in the 2006 draft on a glorified third-down back.

I dont really think the Falcons can handle the Saints. They couldnt handle the Cowboys, and the Saints are a better team than the 'Boys, especially on Defense.
The Saints should do no worse than 14-2, and thats if they lose to both the Patriots and the Cowboys. I think they could beat the Cowboys at least, but that Pats game will be tough because its in NE. The rest of their schedule is sad though, 2 games each vs the Panthers and Bucs and games vs the Rams and Redskins along with one more vs Atlanta.

I think it was the Pirates fans or a different crappy team fanbase in baseball that tried something like that this season. It sort of worked in the sense around 5,000 less people were in the stadium and made it look bad on tv but at same time the seats were already paid for so the team took no hit in lost ticket revenue that game.

On paper yeah the Saints are favored big time since their crushing people left and right. The numbers they put up on offense of throwing for 350 and rushing for 150 are daunting for a struggling ATL D (especially with no CB's). But they had 2 good games last year, splitting the series.
Under the bright lights of Monday Night I expect the crowd to be insane. I find it hard to believe that the Falcons will come out flat like like they finished in Dallas. They bounced back big after the loss to the Pats and destroyed the Niners. I expect them to come in fully prepared and make this one hell of a game. I just can't see a blow out like many are predicting.
Saints have a fantastic team, but i honestly like the Giants over them in the playoffs.

I am of the opinion that the Falcons will try this on Monday, and it won't work. Controlling the clock is tough with a team that seems to always score within 3-5 minutes. I think teams will have to beat the Saints in a shootout to stand a chance. And the Saints are pretty damn healthy right now, so they are shooting on all cylinders.

Well the Falcon run game right now is just awful Boom. Its painful when watching it. I mean people wanna point to the fact that Turner packed on some weight in the off season so hes lost a step. I mean yeah he looks a little slower when trying to hit the hole but its also the play calling I think.
Were not taking the shots down field so were not really stretching the defenses. I think Malarkey has gotta open up the pass and take some shots down field. It also hurts when Norwood is out of the lineup. When he went down I knew the offense would struggle since he opens things up and brings a whole different pace to the offense.

Actually, it's:
Each division opponent twice = 6 games
One AFC division = 4 games
One NFC division = 4 games
Two other teams who finished the same place in their division, but aren't in the division the team is already playing = 2 games
Example on the last one, since it's kinda confusing. Denver, New England, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh each finished second in their respective divisions last year. This years Denver plays the AFC North. So that means the two second place teams they play will be New England (AFC East) and Indianapolis (AFC South). Hope that helps.

QB=Quarterback, recieves ball from center (guy who snaps it between his legs) when the down starts. Either hands off to a running back or passes to a reciever.
RB=running back, generally receives a hand off from the quarterback and runs through a hole created by the linemen. ?He can also be tosses the ball and even recieve the ball in a pass in passing plays. He also helps block in passing plays.
FB=Full back, same as running back but is generally just an extra blocker and rarely gets the ball.
WR=Wide receiver, generally lines up wide away from most of the other players hence the name. They usually only recive the ball in pass plays, but there is certain situations where they are handed it to run. They also help block defensive backs in running plays.
TE=Tight End, A player that lines up 'tight' to the formation. They are players that are big enough to be linemen, and athletic enough to carry the ball. They block just like a lineman in both running and passing plays, but can also be very useful as a reciever in passing plays because they may go uncovered, or be a bad matchup for smaller defensive backs.
OL=Ofensive linemen, The giants that line up in a line of five men. the center snaps the ball through his legs to the QB. next to him on each side is a gaurd, and the outter most position for linemen is the tackle. They never get the ball, in fact it is illegal. All they do is block.
DL=Defensive linemen, The even bigger dudes that line up over the center and gaurds that will try and stop run plays of and offense by being immovable and rushing the QB on pass plays.
DE=Defensive end, same as above but a lot more athletic and smaller. They usually line up over the tackles and try to run right around them to get to the QB on pass plays.
LB=Line backer, and defensive player that stays standing usually about 1-5 yards off the line of scrimmage. They are probably the most important players on the defense because the defense is usually made for them to make all the tackles. They are generally the most athletic and violent players on any team. They can cover TE and slow recievers, blitz the QB, and shelp in stuffing the run.
DB=Defensive back, anyone who lines up far in the defensive backfield or over a wide receiver. Safetys and corners. corners are the DBs that line up over the WR and usually play the pass. They are generally smaller and very fast. Safetys are just what their name states. They are that safety blanket or the last line of defense. They usually help out corners in pass coverage by staying down field of the WRs or 'up top' They usually cover a deep zone of the field and help with run support.

Giants are exposing themselves as a fraud team. They had one impressive win in Dallas and then they won 4 games against teams that barely qualify as NFL teams.
I'll give them next week, if they lose to San Diego and drop to 5-4 before the bye, they might very well miss the playoffs for the first time since 2004. Sucks saying that in the crappy NFC but there are at least enough decent teams to get the two wild card spots and the Giants don't have very many easy games in the second half - Redskins and Panthers, that's about it.

The Giants are good enough to beat up on crappy teams, but not even close to competing with the conference elite. As far as I'm concerned, the Giants were lucky Romo played poorly in their contest with Dallas.
Their secondary is abysmal, the loss of Kenny Phillips was huge and that is apparent by the play of CC Brown. It doesn't seem like Bill Sheridan can devise a scheme to get pressure as Spags could, and he seems to be getting out coached by superior competition for the past three weeks. On top of the defensive woes, Manning is playing like complete shit the past three weeks, and the overall offensive philosophy is way too predictable. If I can sit on my couch and predict the Giants' offense then so can opposing defenses.

Down 14 in the fourth, they come out and go 3 and out on 3 straight runs....

Quick question for people from New York. What's the breakdown in the New York Metropolitan area between Jets and Giants fans? Is it geographically divided, socioeconomically divided, or is it just kinda random?

If you ignore newer fans and bandwagon fans and if its anything like New England, its probably more like the older fans would most likely be Giants fans while the younger fans would be Jets fans since Giants were in the area longer by a good 40 years.
New England is basically split similar since the older fans are more likely to be Giants fans since Patriots didn't become a team until 1960.

Hey look. Michael Turner showed up.

That was terrible tackling on Atlantas part.
and they get a penalty for a pretty lame TD celebration..if you're gonna get penalized at least do something worth getting the flag for.

On the TD yeah, I'd agree with you. But otherwise the Falcons are looking speedy tonight. Making tackles early and often. Still no answer for the depth of the Saints offense though.
Heros Welcome
11-02-2009, 09:03 PM
Gotta make the tackles. That was a joke.
ATL has got good field position to start now, we gotta keep the momentum like we had on the first drive. Can't go flat like we did in Dallas.

Browns ax their GM 11 months into the job. Mangini hand picked him, think he'll go after the season?

If he doesn't go before then. An owner can only handle his team being so terrible for so long. Except Al Davis

Knockout punch from the Saints before the half.

Knockout punch is right. Thats just...ugh..I have no words. Had to play mistake free football, and its a momentum shifter like that, gets the crowd going and can really make this an ugly game.

Brown's owner already guaranteed he'll be back next year but no guarantee after that.

There's your Roddy TD. Taking a deep shot is the Saints game, definitely not the Falcons.

For the most part, you'll find more Jets fans in Long Island and more Giants fans in NYC/Jersey. Not much of a difference socioeconomically, although Jets fans typically like to get drunk and persuade ladies to take their tops off at games more than Giants fans do.
Jets fans are also nauseatingly self-loathing. Possibly more annoying than a Boston Red Sox fan before 2004. Fans of both teams know their teams inside and out, but Jets fans tend to turn on their players more quickly after bad performances.

Took the over in this game and its gonna end up being 1 point under. Same thing happened with the Ohio State game on Saturday, took New Mexico State with their 44 points...Ohio State beat them 45-0

Falcons played better than I expected. Fun game. A lot of my friends are upset about that 5 yard defensive hold penalty that gave the Saints the first down before that huge touchdown drive, but the Falcons had many other chances to pull ahead.
Glad to see the return of Michael Turner though. He looked great tonight.

Yeah, that one kept them from getting the ball back with momentum and probably good field position. Terrible.
