You could probably jump right in.
You'd better appreciate and understand it if you read Green Lantern: Rebirth, Green Lantern, and Green Lantern Corps, but not strictly necessary.

Also do you know the Avarice Lantern's motto? or was that just an inside joke since orange lantern never said one?

sorry for the third post, but the whole reason i am interested in blackest night is because i want toread about the indigo, blue, orange, red, and black lanterns.

They've been slowly trickling in the other colors. Only one I don't think they've touched on yet is Indigo but they'll be intored more or less during Blackest Night. Look for Hal Jordon to use every single ring and color to beat Black Hand though. They've been hinting that so much that the only way they'd be able to pull of a swerve is to have Ion or Kyle put on every ring.

You really need to read green lantern rebirth, and all of green lantern v4, leading up to blackest night. It's the best mainstream book out right now, outside of maybe captain america.

Captain America has been great. I think it is still too soon to bring Steve back though.

Capta america is alive. Not steve rogers. Read the death of captain america arc. It's three trades long, but it is the conclusion of the story that has been going on for 42 issues. I havn't read anything past that, so I couldn't tell you how it's been lately. Go and buy the trades. Some things are worth actually buying, and not just getting the torrent, and this is one of them. If you can't afford t, wait until you can.
Also, I don't think they are actually going to bring steve back. He will obviously be part of the story somehow, but it's way too soon.

I am going to buy blackest night and probably world war hulk.
I support the comic industry by buying tpb's all the time, mostly vertigo though.

Could be wrong, but I don't think so. Might be thinking of Warren Ellis. I get them mixed up sometimes.

I've really been digging Blackest Night so far. Can't wait to see Black Lantern Bruce Wayne and what happens to him after the end of BN.
Steve Rogers is apparently coming back - in some way shape or form - through Captain America Reborn.

Yeah, I used to never really like Green Lantern... but ever since Rebirth, it has been one of the most interesting hero franchises, if not the most interesting.

Dunno if Bruce will actually be a Black Lantern, given that Black Hand is using his skull as some kind of power battery.
Geoff Johns is writing DC's best stuff at the moment, especially Green Lantern. :y:

OK so i started reading GL rebirth today. Also started cap america v5 and the boys. I was kinda confused by rebirth so I read emerald dawn, I finished that, it was ok. But What do i need to read for Hal Jordan going spectre? and Guy Gardner becoming warrior? (who was GL's social worker in ED2.) Cap america also feels like there is somehting that should come before it. the boys is crazy
When that girl got her arms ripped off, i was like WTF?!?!

You don't really need to know anything about Guy Gardner becoming Warrior, but that happened in his own series that he had for awhile. Totally unimportant though.
As far as Hal as The Spectre... After dying in Final Night, Hal was in purgatory. Then in the Day of Judgement miniseries The Spectre was being used for evil by some dude, and so the heroes looked for a new host in purgatory. Hal Jordan stepped forward and became the new Spectre. The Hal Spectre had his own short little series too, which I never read.
Ultimately though, you don't really need to read any of it to get into Rebirth and the subsequent series.
I used to think Green Lantern was badass just because of his powers but now I don't really care for him. Haven't read any GL comics though. I've only seen the new animated movie that came out recently but that sucked.

how can you judge him without reading the comics? lol check rebirth.
that movie was really not impressive imo.
and if you vhavent read any comics, y the last man, is probably the best of the last 20 years for new fans, and old fans a like, sandman is a little heavy, not that y isn't deep, but you can see what i mean if you've read them
Only if you read it to me daddy.
