You know that once UFC starts frequently killing WWE in buys, Vince is going to want to provide an element of competition.

Do you think Vince, shan, or stephanie will turn WWE into a hybrid brand including rounds, time limits, no pins, etc?

Have a belt that is contested under MMA Rules (whether staged or not)?
Have another Brawl for all?

which way do you see Vince and the Powers that be reacting to the fact that UFC has taken their popularity and probably will never give it back?

btw, UFC 101 wasn't nearly as good as ufc 100 or even WM this year.

The best part was silva.

Good God no. Vince went as far as to make the announcers not called Taker's submission move a gogaplata.

That could lead to a sweet McLovin spinner on the belt.

...which would be completely and totally amazing

Not necessarily Vince just whoever gets the company next.

Vince put together the WMAF (World Martial Arts Federation) in the early/mid 90s and never even got the first show together. He did the Brawl For All in 1998. He apparently seriously considered purchasing UFC at one point in the 90s. Shane McMahon has been desperate for an MMA brand under the umbrella for years.

I think Vince has missed the boat. To be fair, he saw potential in it before most people did, and if the WMAF had gotten off the ground, we may not even have UFC as the market leader today. Vince's vision, which was surely to feature shoot fights but with characters and angles a la wrestling, may have gone down a treat. We'll never know. But by now, it's too late. There is a fully established market leader, and I doubt billionaire Vince is hungry enough is 2009 to fall back into that "number 2" position and claw his way back to the top (or try to, at least). The guy's getting on.

I honestly think one day Shane McMahon will start a league of his own, probably after Vince is dead, maybe even independantly from WWE.

That was a great post.

It's costing various 'promotions' like, $70 million, just to fail.

The biggest problem is that all the best fighters are under 6 fight deals with UFC. Even if they were to sink bucket loads of cash into it, and pay fighters more than UFC are. It will still be hard because even if they could tempt 3 out of the top 10 from every weight class accross, it is still going to take over 18 months to get them all under contract. Meaning in the first year, you have no marquee fights.

UFC just have it sewn up when it comes to competition and contracts.

The brawl for all was a disaster. Injured wrestlers, confusing scoring system, not the result they were looking for. Think you can add more to that as well.

I think they are better off intergrading MMA fighters with charisma, personality and marketability -- who can cross-over into professional wrestling -- into their shows.

You'll see another Brawl for All when they want a "slam dunk" push for a guy like Steve Williams who was supposed to be a legit fighter.

WWE should just stick to wrestling. They can do some gimmick matches with an MMA flavour, but that's as far as it should go. I wouldn't mind having some gimmick matches with rounds and maybe even a scoring system, but I'd only like to be treated to a gimmick that gets used maybe twice a year.

Pro wrestling is too ridiculous now to mimic reality.

If you put an MMA division in a pro wrestling company that is by far the fucking dumbest thing you can do, it completely underminds the product. "This is fake and this is real" pretty much.
