Dave Grohl on Drums, Josh Homme, vox and guitar and JPJ on bass and keys.

A few scrappy YT vids about from their live debut last night in Chicago are about, but lets be honest here...

It's going to be fucking awesome.

They've also apparently got Alain Johannes on guitar and backing vocals. Not sure if he's full time or not, but either way :y:

Yeah, I am pretty sure he will be involved on stage. He was at their first gig, and plays on about half of the songs they played.

He was there with QOTSA a few years back in london. Played a mad intro to Long Slow Goodbye. Top guitarist.

We watched Spinnerette at Leeds, and we then went to see Eagles of Death Metal. They had Joey Castillo drumming, and with Brody there, I was thinking 'Josh must be about, and playing somewhere, at some point!'

We went back to the tents to get more loaded, and came back to see Ian Brown. We literally must have walked straight past the tent they were on, ignoring the video screens outside the tent and walked on by.

They did a secret show at 4pm on that day, we were walking past, to Ian Brown at the main stage at 4.10. Devo'd

5 days until I see them in Austin. This will be the most expensive concert I've ever attended. Had to pay ample amounts of cash to get the car fixed. Twice. That on top of the $106 for the tickets.

$106 + $184 + $240 = My wallet hurting

PS. Car may potentially have a flat soon due to the "Low Tire Pressure" light coming on, but no noticeable flat

Got back from Austin a few hours ago, fucking amazing. Didn't know much about John Paul Jones before this, but now I'm a big fan. Dude was ridiculous.

My only complaint, NEVER GO TO SHOWS IN TEXAS. Difficult to enjoy anything when you're on the verge of dying from the heat.

Was cool to see all the different kinds of fans there. All the older 40+ there for Jones (I saw plenty of people in their 50s and 60s) or the younger 18-30 there for Grohl and Homme. Pretty neat.

Them Crooked Vultures--a/k/a Dave Grohl, Joshua Homme and John Paul Jones--has confirmed November 17 as the release date of its eponymous debut album in the United States and Canada on DGC/Interscope Records.

The self-produced 13-song record will feature the debut of the studio versions of the material Them Crooked Vultures unveiled at its August 9 debut at Chicago's Cabaret Metro and played on a first series of shows throughout a handful of UK and European cities and portions of the eastern U.S., wrapping up with an October 15 appearance at New York's Roseland Ballroom.

Additional shows are being announced in the wake of the album's release, including but not necessarily limited to December dates in the UK and Europe and a January trip to Australia and New Zealand.

The complete track listing of Them Crooked Vultures is as follows:

No One Loves Me & Neither Do I
Mind Eraser, No Chaser
New Fang
Dead End Friends
Elephants
Scumbag Blues
Bandoliers
Reptiles
Interlude With Ludes
Warsaw or The First Breath You Take After You Give Up

No One Loves Me and Neither Do I: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=P2YUXIZD Ripped from a radio station

Think I saw her for the first time maybe in a news stand
She was picking a mag and dressed oblique
She called me baby, and was a mean lady with the song on the radio
So I told her I was rich, then she asked could I use a dirty bitch? (of course)

Then she said, "No one loves me..neither do I"
You get what you give,
I give goodbye
And if I should vanish
Don't get caught off guard
Don't hold it against me
Unless it gets hard

Well if sex is a weapon, then smash, boom, pow,
How do you like me now?
You can't always do it right, you can always do whats left
So I told her I was trash, she winked and laughed and said "I already know...
I've got a beautiful place to put your face" and she was right,

And I said "No one loves me... neither do I"
It makes perfect sense,
So I never ask why
I've got tomorrow
'cuz life doesn't wait
You can keep your soul
I don't want a soul mate

Cutting her loose, I'm ready to go
People in the world, you're gonna lose control
Cut me a noose, I'm ready to go
People in the world, you're gonna lose control

I know how to burn with passion
Hold nothing back, folds future ration
Give all you are, do not make haste
Savor every single taste

You get...cut

I know how to be controlled
Do what they said, son, watch your tongue
Quick to react, to break the box
Turn on cue, as your cell door locks
Behind you

I know how to be lost in lust
Not because you should, but because you must
It burns white hot, and so clouds the mind
This lightening strike isn't always kind

So use me up
Use me upWhat we've got on the TCV forums, so far

So I was finally able to get past the first track just a few days ago. That first track is absolutely amazing. Easily my favorite of the album. But after finally listening to the entire album, I can say this...

JPJ was not needed.

It is claerly a heavy collaboration between Homme and Grohl. Which is fine with me. The Songs For The Deaf album is a big favorite of mine. So I have no problem with this album's sound. I can listen to and understand Homme and Grohl's influence. But JPJ just takes a backseat in this album and it kinda sounds like he isn't needed. It sounds like the bass work in this album can be replaced by any "Pretty Good" bass player. Like nothing stands out and catches my attention. I thought all 3 would be able to show off their playing styles, but it's mostly Homme and Grohl.

Which I'm fine with. I just think you can replace JPJ with any "pretty good" bass player of today and still acieve the same sound.

FearedSanctity
12-01-2009, 07:59 PM
You have to see them live to truly appreciate JPJ and Grohl. This album seems to showcase Homme the most, but live they're all equally amazing. Their Austin show was easily the best thing I've ever been witness to.

The bass player that played on TCV album, is good enough to have been the Led Zeppelin bassist based on that record.

He dry-bums a 12 string bass into submission during one song on that reading set. The man is a beast. He is still so good that watching that set got me all emotional with his still-the-fucking-king-ness.

Went from 'liking this band a lot more' to 'I fucking love this band, and I want another CD now'. Dunno, it is just like, the perfect kind of music that I want to listen to right now. It rocks my face off, without being incoherent, yet there's a ton of intricacy in the music. It's just got a different sound, and I want more.
