View Full Version : William Regal is probably my favourite wrestler

I was just thinking about this the other day. He may not be the absolute best at anything, but I don't think there is one talent in the WWE that I want to see succeed more than William Regal. There is nothing Regal does badly. He is over, he can wrestle, he can play a character, he can be entertaining, he can be serious, he can talk -- he's such a well rounded talent.
This is nothing new, but I marked out for Regal on ECW, and I just look at the guy and think "he is so fucking good." Just an awesome performer. I love Christian, but I hope Regal steals the ECW Title at Summerslam, and then wrestles him again at Breaking Point.
Oh, and the Regal Stretch is back, bitches!

Totally agree. There have been so many small pushes in the past where I wanted to see him elevated to main event status only for him to disappear two weeks later. I remember when he had a small fued with Triple H over the whole Eugene thing, that was cool.
Sadly now age is against him, so the most we'll see him main event now is on ECW.

i love his wrestling style, a mix of scientific brilliance with smash mouth stiff shots, you can tell that he trained bryan danielson and many consider him to be the best in the world

I can only imagine where Regal would have gone had he not been suspended last year. That evil GM role was the fucking goods. I honestly think he would have had a brief WWE Title reign, using his power to manipulate the rules of his title match and get the belt.

That's exactly where I think they were going with that angle. It almost seemed inevitable. He was the RAW General Manager, and the 2008 King of the Ring, getting the nod over Mr. Money in the Bank, CM Punk. Triple H was the WWE Champion at the time, and was apparently one of the biggest proponents behind a Billy Regal push.
I definitely could have seen Regal using his nefarious god-like powers on RAW to secure himself a WWE Title reign, and basically making up the rules as he goes along; only for CM Punk to cash in his Money in the Bank title shot to give RAW a breath of fresh air, and look like a grand hero. I mean, it would have made sense in the grand scheme of things. Triple H was behind Regal, and Regal had a hand in helping train CM Punk, so is probably a bit of a supporter of getting him over.
If JBL can be WWE Champion, and The Great Khali can be World Heavyweight Champion, there is no reason that William Regal could not have gotten a nice little reign for himself. The WWE have given Regal an IC Title run since his suspension, and he's being treated fairly well on ECW. I'm hoping the WWE is fully aware of the talent Regal possesses, and has plans to at least give him an ECW Title reign.

I've said this before, but Regal's just got value for life to any wrestling company. When his in-ring days are over, the man could play pretty much any on-air role -- a manager, authority figure or commentator. He's got so much knowledge to give the younger guys backstage. I hope Regal is a lifer with the WWE.
I can actually see Regal one day replacing Jerry Lawler as RAW's color commentator, actually.

Regal is one of the best superstars to never carry a major title and I've always felt that's a damn shame especially when you consider how long he has been working for Vince. Somehow I can't picture him as ECW champion but I could definetly see him as the WHC which would be cool cuz he worked for WCW too. Yeah I know the belt technically didn't carry the prestige over from that company but I think in part that's why they had Rey and Booker T wear it rather than the WWE but that is disputable I suppose.

the wwe use the wcw belt for their top belt.
anyway, regal wasn't even on nitro he may have bee on a few times but mainly he was on the jobber show worldwide as steven regal w/ dave taylor
he deserved better than that
and still he deserves better than his current position with the wwe, he could be the big heel on raw, he could work as a face too but i think he works best as a heel.

The Regal Stretch is a fucking brilliant submission finishing maneuver, too.

I would love to see a face run for Regal, eventually. He actually makes me mark out when he turns his "Villain" on one of the bad guys. He just needs an appropriate heel to feud with. I wouldn't recommend it on ECW, but a face Regal on either RAW or SmackDown! would be awesome.
For some reason, potential feuds with The Miz, Cody Rhodes, Carlito and Jack Swagger for Regal actually intrigue me. A face run on RAW?

A bizarre thing about Regal is just how much time he has spent on the A-show despite being a supporting player in the WWE. His style would flourish on SmackDown!, but he gets to spend a lot more time on the "entertainment" show than many others would. Triple H's influence?

I've heard Triple H is in fact a huge fan of Regal so who knows.

How can anyone hate Regal, after all, he is a Mans Man
"You don't literally mean I've got to kiss your bottom in front of all these people."
- William Regal (On being the first member of Vince's club)
I had high hopes for Regal as GM when he would be shutting the lights off and getting huge heat. Then that darn wellness policy screwed everything up. I mean that darn wellness policy pretaining to lower and midcard wrestlers screwed everything up.

The Wellness Policy is responsible for Chris Masters being away from my TV for like two years. That justifies everything.
