View Full Version : What if: Hogan stayed in the WWF?
What would have happened? Would the nWo have still gone over the way it did? Would it even have happened? What would have 93-onward looked like for the WWF? Answer these questions and more, right here, at TPWW!

I don't think we'd have seen the nWo as it was, nor the Attitude Era as it was. Hogan's heel turn was a monumental event in WCW, and it wrestling as a whole. If he didn't jump, it probably wouldn't have happened and a lot would be different.

I don't think there should be any question that the nwo would not have been even close to what it was.
Obviously people will always argue devil's advocate, and since we're dealing with hypothetical history there's no way to quantify the obvious. Still, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the nwo wouldn't have taken off the way it did with anything less than Hogan (who was wrestling at that point, and probably still is)

Yeah, what Jeritron said.

I have to agree, about the NWO but what about WWE? What about Stone Cold, Bret Hart, The Rock, and Shawn Michaels? The question is so hypothetical who could say what would have happend.

All of those guys would have been held down by Hogan, and Brutus Beefcake would have been a four time champ.

Maybe Sting or Luger would have been the third man in the nWo, but let's not discount the possibility that there wouldn't have even been an nWo angle. Hogan's jump to WCW wasn't that well received. After awhile rejected him for being the stagnate hero of old. If he had stayed in the WWF, who's to say that WCW wouldn't have beaten them via Hogan staying on top and other stars going to WCW but not necessarily invading?

Would there have been an nWo at all? I mean if Hogan stayed in WWF, who's saying Nash would have signed? Or if he did himself and Razor would have the chance to shine like they did. Very big What if that one. :y:

Every match would ahve something to do with Hogan in it. Then he would use his power of being a Glory Hog and be champion all the time.

If WWF let hogan keep creative control WCW would have eventually put them out of business. (IF nWo kicked off)

Anything could have happened, really. I mean, Eddie Guerrero could still be alive, and Barack Obama may have never become President. Time is a bizarre thing. Butterfly effect, and all that jazz.
But, if Hogan had stayed in the WWE, then I doubt many stars would have been given the chance to shine. Bret Hart got a WWE Title run, I believe, and technically became a main eventer, but to my understanding, the ending of WrestleMania IX highlights where the WWE would have put him in comparison to Hogan. Would Shawn Michaels have been a big star if Hogan had stuck around? Didn't the Hart/Michaels era come about because a lot of the bigger stars drifted to WCW?
Maybe Shawn Michaels would have jumped from the WWE to WCW? Perhaps he could have become a big name there? Given WCW's resources at the time, he might have actually become a bigger draw than what he ever was in the WWE. Steve Austin might have still jumped to the WWE, because WCW wasn't utilising him, but maybe if WCW developed a different thesis to what they did with Hogan and other stars joining them, Austin might have been given more of a chance?
I don't know why, but I could imagine Shawn Michaels jumping to WCW.

The biggest impact to me if Hogan stayed in the WWF is that we probably never have the formation of the Kliq, or if we do, they would have far less influence backstage.

You look at all the main event faces that were created in the WWF while Hogan was in WCW: Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, The Undertaker, Steve Austin, The Rock, Mick Foley
Chances are more than a few of those guys never become as big as they were

Hogan staying in the WWF also could mean that probably the two greatest feuds of the Attitude Era don't occur or push wrestling into that boom period.
Stone Cold vs Mr McMahon might never have taken off if NwO and WCW were not huge by that point.
Stone Cold vs The Rock might have never been the biggest feud of that Era but could have staid at the Intercontinental title level since that's where the feud 1st started.
Hogan was the right gay guy.

Doubtful considering by about 1992 hogan was getting used less frequently and probably didn't have as much pull as he used to. Probably one of the reasons he left.

Yea right lol. He won the damn title in less than a minute at WM 9. Don't think he wouldn't have had any pull.

And it was taken a few months later, then soon after that he was gone.

Can you imagine if Hogan was the victim in the Montreal Screwjob?
I guess he sorta has the opposite happen at Bash at the Beach.

If Hogan would have stayed with WWE then I wouldn't have "The Rise and Fall of ECW" on dvd. It would have been "The Rise and Fall of WWE", and the WCW dvd would have been two hours of Paul Heyman saying "Fuck this guy, fuck that guy, fuck this guy, fuck that guy, fuck this guy, fuck that guy".....
