As some of you may know I am a huge Ziggler mark but I wouldn't get my hopes up just yet we've seen people change shows (eg Edge) to be the titleholder. Although logically I would think if they were gonna keep it on a face they would have Morrison keep it warm for him. I don't think Rey did anything special for the IC title. Yea, he had some great matches with Jericho and Ziggler, but I seem to have an issue with former world champs holding the IC title. The IC title was a stepping stone for guys like The Rock, Steve Austin, Randy Savage, HBK, Triple H, Eddie Guerrero, and more. The IC title should be used to build up new stars, not a place holder for a guy who moves some merch.

At the very least, I wonder how they're going to get the title off Mysterio, especially since Ziggy wasn't supposed to get his title shot until Breaking Point. Rey's suspension conveniently doesn't begin until Wednesday, September 2nd, which gives them time to write in an excuse to have a title match during next week's Smackdown tapings on Tuesday.

Also, I kinda wonder how this is going to affect the IC title situation, since Ziggler won a #1 Contender Match for the IC title shot on Superstars tonight, and if the suspension goes into effect next Wed., I hate to say it, but we may have a taping next week for SD! or Superstars that results in Ziggler taking the gold at that point.

The other idea they could pursue, if they're absolutely hell-bent on having an IC title match at Breaking Point, since it looks like Taker is going to be in the WHC scene come Sept. 13, make it a match between Ziggler and Morrison. Even if Morrison doesn't win the title right away, have him chase it for a bit, and have him win it sometime before the end of the year, or even early next year, and if he drops it before the Rumble, have him win the Rumble to get a WM WHC shot, either that or have him go into WM as IC champ and have him win MitB, and win the WHC later in the year, preferably several months removed from any hypothetical IC title run.

The Finlay pick isn't all that crazy. Ziggy's title shot is technically for Breaking Point, not necessarily against Rey Mysterio. Considering the two other contenders in the "Intercontinental Division" right now are Finlay (face) and Mike Knox (heel), and Ziggy's a heel, it makes sense to give the title to the other face to preserve the heel/face match at Breaking Point.

The Finlay pick isn't all that crazy. Ziggy's title shot is technically for Breaking Point, not necessarily against Rey Mysterio. Considering the two other contenders in the "Intercontinental Division" right now are Finlay (face) and Mike Knox (heel), and Ziggy's a heel, it makes sense to give the title to the other face to preserve the heel/face match at Breaking Point.

This is very true. I would also keep Matt Hardy and John Morrison in mind as potential winners of the IC Title on SmackDown!. With Hardy seemingly getting nudged aside for Taker, despite having a logical feud with CM Punk over the World Heavyweight Title waiting, I can see Hardy winning the IC Title as a sort of "we haven't forgotten about you" present. Especially since Michael Hayes loves Matt Hardy.

I'm with thedamndest and Juan on this. Rey Mysterio has been pretty fucking good lately, and his reigns with the IC Title have done a lot to raise the belt. It's no longer a mid-card title, but an upper mid-card title, which is fantastic when young guys like Ziggler eventually win the belt. And I'm actually glad that the WWE have made Ziggler work for his reign. They haven't just thrown the IC Title on him because he's a rising star. This was scheduled to be his third PPV match against Rey Mysterio, and it was going to be a good moment when he won the IC Title.

And Ziggler is fantastic, by the way. He's got one of the better and more thought-out characters in the WWE. The SmackDown! writing team is taking good care of him. I've seen potential ever since "Nicky," and I'm craving a feud between Ziggler and Undertaker over the IC Title. That would be epic.

I love the way he yells "COUNT IT!" after his elbow drop. I just wish his finishing move had a name. I was looking forward to seeing Ziggler slap Rey in the face to spin him into that move, too. In 30 days, I hope for more Ziggler/Mysterio matches.

Ziggler made me remember what i thought about morrison and miz when they first showed up in WWE. Couldn't stand either of them at first...but they grow on you. Plus Ziggler's theme is Perfection. Hope it's on the next CD.

How I hope they handle this IC Title situation:

* Matt Hardy wins his first Intercontinental Championship on Superstars when he pins Rey Mysterio in a fast-paced Triple Threat also involving John Morrison. The babyface dynamic is unusual, and something I could see being fun.

* Theodore Long announces Rey's suspension on SmackDown!, Rey apologises and whatever, which brings out CM Punk who tears into Rey Mysterio, mocking Long calling him "The Face of SmackDown!." Punk could even bring up how Rey is doing to himself what Eddie Guerrero used to do. Rey and Punk get into a fight, and Long announces a match between them.

* Matt Hardy is pissed off at Punk for how he exiled his brother from the WWE, and the disrespect he showed Jeff afterwards, so Matt also wants to get his hands on Punk. The main event is changed to Punk & Dolph Ziggler vs. Matt Hardy & Rey Mysterio.

* Rey gets pinned by Dolph Ziggler in the main event, and CM Punk then goes to elbow city with Rey, as Ziggler takes out Matt Hardy.

I still feel that Rey had no business being anywhere in the conversation about the WHC, let alone actually win it.

He has always struck me as just another Spot Monkey.

Rey has consistantly been one of the most over, as well as marketable wrestlers in the company. It would be silly to restrict his exposure to just the cruiserweight or tag division. Plus, the only people who don't buy rey as a World title contender are a small portion of the IWC, which as a whole is a very small percentage of wwe's fanbase.

And I totally disagree with the spot monkey nonsense. Just because a guy uses high spots doesn't make him a spot monkey. Rey has great in-ring psychology, and story telling. He knows how to build to those spots and use them at the right time.

The problem with rey's title run was that they forgot how he got there in the first place. And I don't mean eddie's death, because he was facing main event guys long before that. His gimmick for the last 8 years has pretty much been that he is so quick and so good, that he can score a flash pin on anyone, at anytime. I mean, his first major fued in wwe was against kurt angle, and he scored a pin on him even. And he beat a ton of main eventers, from then, til when he won the title. But once he won it, they decided he needed controversy to hold onto the title. Retarded.

This is exactly it. The handling of Mysterio after he won the 2006 Royal Rumble was a bit ridiculous. They made him look like an idiot, and like someone they didn't trust in the main event. If they had just done Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 22, things would have been sweet.

I've always been of the belief that a World Champion should be the top guy of a promotion -- and should be treated as such. When Rey Mysterio was World Heavyweight Champion, they kept putting him over as an underdog. If a man is good enough to have won the World Title, he's not a fluke. They should have put Rey over as pound-for-pound the most talented man in WWE history, as his size provides a case for that. But alas.
