Big Fish proved to be no match, and Gladiator won its 3rd matchup. We're getting serious here, folks. Two more wins and Gladiator is in the Hall of Fame.

But this round will be tough. De Niro and Scorsese are back to ensure that no one else gets into the Hall of Fame besides them.

And as always, tell us why you voted the way you did. Don't be a weegooner.

Gladiator was good, but even Russel Crowe on his best day is no match for De Niro in that movie.

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?

Gladiator was more entertaining to me, so I voted it.

Taxi Driver is good enough to have been in the final round. Should stand a decent chance of getting into the HOF as long as fucking Star Wars or something doesn't come round again

Possibly, but that might all depend on how many people have seen it.

The 1977 Academy Award for Best Picture was between Taxi Driver, Network, and Rocky. Tough call.

The 70's were such an amazing time for cinema.

70's and 80's were awesome times for cinema. There should be a "better movie" thread for just those 2 decades.

Rocky won in 1976 I believe.

1977 was Annie Hall, and Star Wars was up too.

The 70s were indeed great. I actually think this past decade has been the best decade for movies since the 70s

A classic matchup both were nominated for best picture (gladiator won) and both De niro and Crowe we're nominated for best actor. Crowe won and de niro was robbed for the first of many times. Taxi Driver is a great movie with truly great characters ( Travis Bickle, Easy, Sport) but Gladiator is one of my personal favorites and I cant vote against it in this particular matchup

I was actually going to watch Gladiator again sometime this week. I haven't watched Taxi Driver in a long time either.

I might watch them both tonight, and vote off of that instead.

You're thinking of release dates. Rocky was released in 76, but won in 77.

I have never seen Taxi Driver, but will rent it tomorrow just for this. I still need to watch this movie Fragments (looks terrible) first

Oh true. I always think of it by year of release because that's what they call it. "Rocky 1976 Best Picture Winner"
But now that you mention it, yes the awards are in the next year.

I always hate that confusion with sports seasons that overlap the new year too.

I never really got into Taxi Driver when I've seen it. Dunno somehow didn't grab me.

You know I love Gladiator, but Taxi Driver...Man, a truly iconic film really, I can't see anything stopping it from getting a HOF place tbh.

Taxi Driver. One of De Niro's best movies imo.

Taxi Driver by far.

Gladiator had some very, very nice acting in it, particularly from Joaquin Pheonix, and was very entertaining, but it just isn't close.

Taxi Driver is my vote, are you talking to me? I'm the only one posting, so you gotta be talking to me.

I would like to call bs on something. Fight Club beat Ghostbusters and Young Frankenstein? I know it's votes but you gotta be kidding me. IMO the people who voted for Fight Club over those two CLASSICS need awesome lessons. Just because the movie came out in the 90s doesn't mean it's better then what came before and it's not.
