View Full Version : FOX Sports/NWA-TNA rumor

According to sources within NWA:TNA, the company has either struck a television deal with Fox Sports Network or they're extremely close to doing so. The first show is scheduled to air in June. To give an example of how confident those in the locker room are about the television deal, they're now saying, "Once we get on Fox Sports Net...," when discussing the future of the promotion.
Once the deal is finalized with Fox Sports, the weekly pay-per-view concept will likely be scrapped. Instead, TNA would tape the weekly television show on Thursday in Orlando, Florida and have a traditional monthly pay-per-view on Sunday nights.

Damn I really hope this is true. Even if you aren't a TNA fan, competition is always good for wrestling.

That would be great if NWA: TNA finally got a Television deal.
Now if only NWA: TNA could have one title change without having some sort of outside interference and over booking the match then they'd be set.
Also, it looks as if Raven is going to be the NWA Champion! MARK-the-****-Out

Sweeeeeeeeet.
I've only seen one TNA show (the "Penny Show"), because I can't afford a weekly PPV, so a cable show would be wonderful for me.
Especially if they pick up O'Haire. An O'Haire-Raven feud (or alliance) could be gold.

Anyone else here a little skeptical, given the Fox network having some ties with the WWE right now (Primarily in Bradshaw being on Fox News)?

Don't worry, I'm sure Bradshaw will return and advise them financially against the TV deal with NWA/TNA. lol, but in seriousness, if it happens, cool. I'm not familiar with the rundown of that promotion quite yet, so it'll be cool to at least see something new and possibly good.

TNA has a lot of opotential, but the crap plots were kinda a turnoff. It was like a small-time WCW...

I bet TNA is just like a conspiracy, from all the wrestlers that didn't get brought into the WWE after the big buyouts right, so that they can pretend to be competition and get bought out and have some of them get jobs.

That's like saying the Rock showing up on Letterman means the WWE has ties with CBS. I seriously doubt that would have any affect whatsoever on negotiations between FOX and the NWA.

Not exactly, since the Rock doesn't have a standing role on Letterman or use his Letterman role in his Titantron entrance.

The rumour is true they are trying to get a deal done, and they think they're close but close doesn't mean squat. Plus, even if they get TV, unless its a good time slot and unless their TV looks as professional as WWE's they wont make it. Keep in mind there have been estimates saying that it costs the WWE $500,000 to run each TV taping. Thats a lot of money for a promotion that cant even sell 1,000 tickets per week.
Hopefully they get a deal, because the mor ecompanies that are making money the better it is for the industry, but I just dont think they'll make it.
Keep in mind the lockr room was also convinced that Hulk Hogan was going to main event a PPV for them, and we all know what happened with that.

As the saying goes, close only counts in horseshoes and nukes.
Question about the price factor: Is that just for production? Or do the arenas and whatnot fall into that number?

WWE does have ties with CBS.
CBS is owned by Viacom, which also owns UPN and SpikeTV which air...WWE!
Of course, he also shows up on Leno and Conan, so that makes the whole point moot.

Wow, if they end up getting the deal, that's great. Like CyNick pointed out though, I don't want to get too worked up about it until they actually do it and get everything set up nicely.
If it were on Fox though I bet it would get hyped like mad. That would be pretty good. Just so long as the general population knows of AJ Styles' awesomeness

I think its everything, the arena, production, talent, etc.

In that case, one would imagine that a decent promotion could be run without spending that much. The WWE books huge arenas and goes for massively slick productions.
TNA or a similar promotion could still put on a professional looking show without shelling out that much. Plus, selling tickets would be easier if more people saw the show (Which might only happen if they can survive a few blows).
Doesn't mean it'll keep them above the breakeven point or anything, but they are factors to the overall chances of success.
Of course, I'm not sure the climate is strong enough for another wrestling promotion, even if it's well produced and at a good time slot.

They've been putting on really good shows for the last month or so. If they can keep up the quality of shows, get a good tv deal, and work on their production a little bit, hopefully they'll do alright.
Kane Knight

I wouldn't complain if their quality has come back up. My only real problem was with some of the crap I paid for. Grante,d they've still got soe mad hot talent.
the fans are ready another wrestling company on tv, i think it will do prety good on fox sports, fox knows how to turn crap into gold. they might get as high ratings as raw.

It's been pretty good for the last month. I would recommend buying next week's show. Raven won a 4 way match last week against AJ Styles, Ron Killings, and Abyss to earn a shot at Chris Harris. The winner of Raven/Harris (this Wednesday) fights Jarrett in a cage.
Moongoose Mcqueen

Thats cool, from what I've seen and heard AJ Styles is cool, and I like their use of Raven and Double J. Is Jarret the champion currently?
I hope Raven gets that title shot.
That's great, sucks that's its with Fox though. They tend to be very conservative and with conservative comes Christian, and with Christian comes censorship for even the most basic of things. If we do see it it's going to be a watered down version of wresting with every "god damn" being spoken blanked and every blade job censored out.
Moongoose Mcqueen

I don't know, FSN doesn't seem conservative at all with their programs and the basic FOX network isn't conservative, in fact they seem to have less and less 'morals' with each reality series they come out with.
But with this stupid FCC stuff from Janet Jacksons tit it seems like every channel's on edge, if anyone caught that confidential with Rock's highlights I noticed the beeping out of 'poontang pie', on cable at 11 or 12 at night.
Fox news not conservative? lol.
I admit, I don't watch Fox sports, and it is on cable so there is more leeway, but being owned by the same parent company makes me suspect in what they intend on censoring. I guess we will ahve to wait and see though, if this even happens.

no, the FOX netowrk IS conservative.
FSN may not be, but they're parented by a conservative company.

True, I did forget about FoxNews, which is def conservative. But it doesn't seem to effect FSN.
If they get it on Thursday, and go head to head with SmackDown, it could cirtinly be interesting, to say the least... WWE would need to take a step up with SmackDown, thus (hopefully) better things coming out of it...
On a side note, I dont get FSN damn it :(

Despite some small changes (good and bad), the move to a time slot on cable tv is greatly for the better definitely a good move for the NWA-TNA, and the wrestling industry in general, as well as the fans, and is a good competitive motivator for the WWE.
I think FSN would help a lot with the promotion too. Best Damn Sports Show would be a great outlet to help promote it, and they could get their hot Best Damn correspondents involved too.

Good point.
It would be cool if they had a somewhat friendly compettitive relationship, more like the WWF and ECW towards the end, as opposed to WWF/WCW.
I'm sure there'd be the part of Vince the businessman and WWE that would want the compettition, and another that feared it and see the opportunity to stifle it when they have the chance.

I agree, but it has the advantage of being on FSN which is stronger, where as TNN was actually really weak whent the had ECW, before getting better and then getting WWE and changing their image.
Plus ECW was up against WWE and WCW.

Yeah. It's funny, we had it for a couple months before we even discovered we had it. for most of ECW's run, we didn't. Then we get it, and it wasn't too long after I started watching it that I found myself watching the end of ECW.

I'd watch it even if it didn't have a good timeslot. I'd still tape it or something. BTW, it seems odd to me that a wrestling program would be picked up by a sports channel. Fox...sure. FX...Deffinately. FSN? I haven't seen much of TNA so far, but I know that it's still kayfabe sports entertainment. FSN is good for showing the common sports like baseball and hockey, but not wrestling (amateur). Doesn't sound legit, but I'm convinced that giving WWE some competition would be good. So I'm just going to cross my fingers anyway and wait until June.
