I've been watching alot of these wrestling events and one of the things that takes away from this match (besides the fact that both teams were past there prime) was how horrible the commentary is. I think that bad commentary can ruin a good match, and good commentary can make a forgettable match seem better. In your opinion, how important are good commentators to wrestling?

Personally, I've gotten to the point where I can watch a match without commentary. If the commentary is bad, I'll just cut it off and watch the match.

Depends on who is commentating.

I don't mind either way if a match has commentary and I've grown to like Japanese commentary on matches from Japan even tho I don't speak a word of it

All commentary seems to do nowadays is piss me off because they do nothing but hype the main event.

If I can't look away from the screen and still know what is happening in the ring, the commentators aren't doing their jobs.

I cannot watch a match without commentary. Like if the matches on these WWE DVD's have no commentary, I skip right over it

The only matches I watched w/o commentary were on youtube and they had music instead which always annoyed the shit out of me.

Commentary is essential. I really think a major reason why wrestling has been suffering recently has been a lack of good commentators.

Commentary of a wrestling match should be like the musical score for a movie. It should be used to enhance the scene and set the tone. But when you get people who can't do it...well...it sucks.

I always thought it would be cool for wrestlemania (or all PPVs) to have all three teams doing every match, on the live broadcast you hear the smackdown guys calling the smackdown matches and raw guys doing the raw matches... but when you buy the dvd you have all 3 teams to pick from, maybe even have some were the wrestlers from the match are doing their own voice over to call a match they had a decade ago against eachother.

Imagine Shawn Micheals calling his own ladder match with Scot hall or something like that

Essential.

Commentary can draw the viewer further into the match. Commentary can also cheapen the match if all they're doing is going on and on about the main event. It can both harm and help what's going on in the ring.

Commentary is probably the most important thing after the actual wrestling itself. If your at a live event, regardless if its a house show or ppv or tv show, the crowd is what will pump you up or make you bored of a certain match or show. A hot crowd makes the event or match much more intresting while a dull crowd can kill off most enjoyment of an event or match.

Since you don't get that kind of full effect on TV, the commentary is critical since its trying to mimic the effect a crowd can have. If the commentary sucks, then it can kill the match but if its great, the match is going to come off much better (assuming its not a sloppy match).

Its the same effect that sporting games have on TV vs actually being at the stadium.
