Parks has its moments, but it reminds you way to much of the Office. The main lady is basically a female Michael. And the pacing of the show is just to much like The Office. Normally you can find similiar shows like that, but The Office's pacing is different then a normal sitcom, so to recreate that within an hour of The Office on the same network just hasn't worked completely for me yet.

I think CBS might have finally gotten away from it, I'm not sure, but their shows still have that stagnant studio feel to them.
They probably do have the laugh track though. CBS loves the old fashioned sitcom format.
It's almost a great idea to stick with it, because it almost makes what used to be commonplace their own brand. I could probably pick a CBS show out of a lineup without knowing. ABC and NBC are more similar.
They obviously had success for years with Everybody Loves Raymond and King of Queens and sitcoms had been dead on the other channels.

Better off Ted was pretty good on ABC. It's been canceled after the second season tho. Used to get really good reviews but it just never took off in the ratings.

A lot of the best shows get cancelled. Lots of my favorite shows over the years didn't even make it a full season.
The fact that Freaks N Geeks gets fucking cancelled in it's first season is beyond me.
It's hard for a great TV show to get over with the masses and stay on the air against tons of reality crap

just started watching this a couple of days ago out of morbid curiosity. i say morbid curiosity because this show had the misfortune of being aired first on channel ten over here, who are notorious for their dodgy programming choices. so instinctively during its run on ten i avoided it like the plague, but i've been real low on stuff to watch lately and i knew some of you guys rated this show so i gave it a bash and holy shit, i was so pleasantly surprised. such a good show. love these characters. about to start on season 2. got through s1 in like a day and a half. got hooked straight up. so many good throwbacks and references. i feel like if you missed episodes on tv and tried to keep up it would be nowhere near as good because of so many throwaway references.

either way, love this show.

This show getting ignored at last year's Emmy Awards was one of the biggest travesties of all time. The Paintball episode should have given them the nomination for best comedy series of the year and it should have taken the trophy. Modern Family Vs. Modern Warfare. Modern Warfare wins!

You know, I love how, for being an episodic show, it really sticks with things that happen in other episodes. Chevy in the wheel chair, the face Troy gives when he finds out Shirley may be pregnant, etc.

I also loved how in the one episode, they had Abed in the background scenes talking and helping the pregnant girl, and eventually helping her give birth, without ever really mentioning it.

Yeah, there's a TON of little stuff in this show that just makes me love it more. Like the oil cans in the one show were from "Wilde Oil", which is the oil company from Running Wilde.

Also, in the episode where Annie freaks out about her pen, if you watch closely in the beginning, you can actually see Annie's Boobs steal the pen.

Just started watching, this show is my new Scrubs.

I watched the whole first season over 24 hours! Loved it!

However, I almost screamed in horror when Jack Black turned up in one episode. If there is one person on this earth I cannot stand it is Jack Black. AHHHHH!!! I was absolutely terrified he was going to be a regular and ruin the entire show. No one else can ever join this study group EVER, it is sacred!

I think one reason this show resonated with me so much is that I'm also a mature student (27) about to start at a small University this September.

Just saying, I think The Group needs to be the focus of the show at all times. Any and all other characters must have their stories relate somehow to The Group.

What if Community is actually building up a story line? I mean, something that's building to the end of the season. We have Asian Annie who doesn't like the group, now we have Todd. Then there's John Goodman, who will ultimately get mixed in, and the new prof as well. That, mixed in with Chang's new power, and ever growing insanity, just makes it seem like there's a lot of opposition coming up.

That works for that episode. It was a funny and different way to have them do something together outside of the study room and school related activities with quirkiness brought about through Abed and his timeline theories. That's always been the beauty of Community. They can do these hilariously weird standalone episodes and don't go for the overkill by trying to have some of the funnier elements of those shows carry over week to week.
