View Full Version : Where will HHH vs. Austin rank in WWE history?

Building off a different thread questioning the placement of Rock vs. HHH, where does this one stand? This feud began with incredible emotional charge that stemmed from one of the longer run story lines of the attitude era. It picked right up with a Survivor Series match that ended with Austin dropping a car containing Triple H from the top of a forklift. From there, it included a six man Hell in a Cell match, a memorable Royal Rumble war in which Austin cost Triple H the WWF Title and Triple H in turn cost Austin the Rumble itself, and the finale, a two out of three falls match with a simultaneous sledgehammer barbed wire hitting finish. Is this one of the greater feuds of the Attitude Era, or is it somewhat negated by the Two Man Power Trip that formed two months after its conclusion?

For me personally, I don't think Austin-HHH has too much significance....but perhaps others will disagree.

I think for a rivalry to really be considered as one of the greatest of all-time, a pre-requisite has to be a match at Wrestlemania (at minimum)....and Triple H/Austin never even had that.

I don't think anyone can even make an argument that Austin's greatest rival was Triple H......or that Triple H's greatest rival was Austin.

Triple H and Austin had some awesome matches, but that's about it.

Yeah, see, this is why i hate threads like this. Because you always get someone going 'oh i can't rank this very high up' even though it blatantly is one of the top 3 feuds the industry has had.

The ranking system confuses me greatly.

Fuck it, i would rank it lower than chavo/hornswoggle since those two are bound to have a big match at wrestlemania next year.

Their rivalry could have been greater than it was.

Very true.

I completely agree with you and I think one of the worst decisions made during that feud was when they named Rikishi as the driver of the car that hit Stone Cold. Naming Triple H as the driver would have done so much more for that feud.

So if memory serves.... car hits Austin, Austin out for a year, returns, Rikishi admits to being the driver, Rikishi then feuds with The Rock, Stone Cold feuds with Triple H.

Perfect sense.
