Less than 24 hours after former UFC light heavyweight champ Quinton “Rampage” Jackson announced his retirement from the sport of mixed martial arts, it appears that today is Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic’s turn as reports have surfaced the striker is pulling the plug on his illustrious career.

MMABay.com is reporting that Cro Cop’s manager, Zvonimir Lucic, has spoken with Igor Pokrajcom and Sasa Mučnjak, two of CC’s training partners, and informed them that camp will be terminated based on the heavyweight’s decision not to fight again.

The site claims that both fighters were given their final payoff.

Cro Cop was thoroughly dominated by a much younger and hungrier Junior dos Santos this past weekend at UFC 103 and it left many, including the Croatian himself, questioning if he had anything left in the tank.

“I have twenty years of training like a spartan behind me. It has caught up with me, my body is broken down. I’ve been worn out,” Filipovic said at the UFC 103 post-fight presser.

UFC president Dana White didn’t disagree with Cro Cop’s assessment, even kicking the retirement door wide open for the 35-year-old.

“You get to a certain age where you remember what you used to be able to do, and you can see all the openings. You just can’t pull the trigger. I think that’s where he’s at,” White said of CC’s current state.

If that was indeed the last time we’ve seen him, UFC fans never got a taste of who the REAL Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic was. Although it was never really displayed inside the Octagon, he possessed one of the deadliest kicks in the history of the sport and will leave the game with an impressive 25-7-2 pro mark.

However, only a mundane 2-3 for the world’s biggest MMA organization.

---------------

i guess it was time :'( was one of my favourite fighters for a while but you can definitely see some of the old mma guys getting left behind lately, which just goes to show how fast the sport evolves.

Yeah, word. Watching that Dos Santos fight was sad because you could see he was finished, but when he did throw punches they were so ridiculously accurate. Just a shadow of his former self.

Its sucks that we didn't get the deadly PRIDE fighter. That Gonzaga fight was the beginning of the end.

i think he'd still be a good fighter, he doesn't seem like liddell in the he still wants it but can't do it sense. i'm sure he could do it if he really wanted to. last fight though he looked flabby and not interested, it made me sad.

He seems to get bullied around far too easily, in the cage.

Should either drop to 205, or retire.

well he retired, hence the title einstein.

Yeah, watching the Dos Santos fight was sad...dude just looked so polar opposite of what he once was. I think most will remember him from his Pride days over his last UFC days. Like Fignuts said, Silva is definitely the next one to call it quits. They will always be legends, but its true...the sport evolves at such a rapid pace.

It's unfortunate...but at least he knows when to call it quits.

So does this mean Pride < UFC? Haven't heard much about Pride being better anymore, even though it's a constant of MMA message boards.

pride was always better i think, but fighters from that era both pride and UFC are getting left behind now.

Yeah. At the time, Pride was the big name in MMA, with the UFC running in second place.

I read it as "Cro Cop is retarded" and thought it would be a cool thread.
