I'm just going to jump right into the card...

Before the show starts people start chanting "Homicide" over and over and apparently Homicide was in attendence to watch Glory By Honor VIII: The Final Countdown. I'll ruin the suspence right now Homicide may have been at the even but he at no point was the slightest a part of it.

Colt Cabana defeats Rhett Titus
This match wasn't really all that long or all that great. It lasted around 5 minutes or so with Cabana winning with the Billy Goats Curse.

The Dark City Fight Club defeats Up in Smoke
It's the first time I ever saw either of these teams and they did a really good job. The main theme of the match was DCFC bullying Up in Smoke and then they finally beat them in ten minutes after a power bomb neck breaker combo.

Claudio Castagnoli defeats Kenny Omega
This match started out quite slow but picked up after a while and was really solid match. The best move of the match was when Castagnoli did an airplane spin with Kenny Omega first with two hands, than one, and then an air plane spin with no hands, it was pretty cool. Castagnoli takes this match at ten minutes with a devistating European Uppercut.

Bret Hart comes out to a huge pop, and puts over ROH in a banal promo. He says he loved wrestling in New York best of all places. It was hard to hear him because he spoke low and the people in the crowd kept yelling.

Roderick Strong defeats Delirious, Grizzly Readwood, & Sonjay Dutt
in a Four Corner Survival Match
This was a pretty solid match, nothing special it was just about fifteen minutes long. Only thing of note was a lot of offence from Grizzley Redwood, which was odd.

The American Wolves (c) defeat El Generico & Kevin Steen
in a Ladder War for the ROH Tag Team Championship
This was a ridiculious match, let me get that one out of the way right now. Their were sevral sick spots through out. Instead of really telling to move for move, let me try as best I can to lead you through the spots. Generico was hiptossed through a ladder that was set up against the ropes. Generico was suplexed through a table that was set up against the ropes. Generico sunset flip powerbombed Davey Richards through a table off a ladder. Eddie Edwards back body drops Generico off the ladder through a table. Kevin Steen had the sickest spot of the night as he set up a ladder bridging the gap between the ring and the rail, then he put a table on top of that ladder bridge, Kevin Steen was on the ladder which was pushed over and he went through both the table and the ladder, it was sick. The end came at twenty-five minutes when Generico was put in a boston crab like manuver at the top of the ladder (think Walls of Jericho at the top of the ladder but through the ladder instead). As Eddie Edwards had him in this move Davey went up and got the belts. Their was a big Eddie Edwards chant for him when he climbed the ladder the ROH fans showing respect for a heavly bandaged man with a broken elbow.

Intermission I bought ROH Violent Tendencies, which I'm sure none of you care about.

Chris Hero defeated Eddie Kingston
I wasn't very into this match but the crowd seemed to be into it big time. This was the first time I saw Eddie Kingston and I'm not a fan after tonight. He just reminds me of the Dan Maff type guy... nothing special. The crowd liked it and Hero won with a Roaring Knockout Elbow at the twenty minute mark.

A Double then comes out to draw his L Double (Lucky Lottery). The name he pulls out is BRET "THE HITMAN" HART. But obviously this is just Aries' way of not having a match, and he says than since Hart is a coward and won't wrestle he has the night off. Then out comes Petey Willimas still (embarassingly) using the Maple Leaf Muscle gimmick. And he challenges Aries' to the match and Aries says he'll give it some thought, and then cheap shots Williams and agrees to the match.

Austin Aries (c) defeats Petey Williams
This was a good match, I'm going to get that right out of the way right now. But the New York Fans shit all over it, I guess they were hoping for something better. Todd Sinclair took the brunt of the abuse because after any (whether it was a pinfall or a rope break or count outside the ring) the fans would yell "Twinkies" after every number. If Sinclair didn't know he had a weight problem before tonight, he does now. Some jackass is behing me yelling "Underwhelming" over and over. Yet he is the first to go nuts when Petey pulls off the Canadian Destroyer from the top rope (it was sick). The match was good and ends in about twenty minutes when Aries hits the brain buster on the outside and wins by count out. As Austin Aries leaves he gets on the mic and says "You can stick those twinkies up your smart mark asses" to which Petey Williams retorts "You can stick those twinkies up your vag." Classy. Just like us New York fans.

Jim Cornette comes out and the crowd goes nuts. The promo was electric... for the first five minutes. By the end people started chanting "We Want Wrestling" this promo went on for like twenty minutes. Let me give you the short hand. Jim Cornette likes ROH because it's real wrestling and creates stars rather than buying them. Because of that he says he's the new Executive Vice President of ROH Television (whatever that means). Aries then comes out and says that Cornette doesn't have the power he does because A Double has the belt. Aries then says he's going to help Cornette win the triple crown. Getting fired by WWE, TNA, and ROH.

The Young Bucks defeats The Briscoes
This was a very good match. The two teams put on a really good show and were able to pick the fans back up after Cornette killed them. The match was mainly The Briscoes bullying the Young Bucks. One cool spot was the Briscoes hip tossing one of the bucks over the turnbuckle and ring post and to the outside to his tag partner. The win comes when the Bucks hit a 450 splash and a moonsault in succession at around twenty minutes.

Bryan Danielson defeats Nigel McGuinness
As expected the crowd was huge into this match I saw more than one person crying (no lie). The streamers flew and everyone was into this except Danielson came out to a half assed version of Final Countdown and people didn't like that. From the get it is obvious Danielson is the face and Nigel is the heel. This match was basically just a series of reversals to start out. And then after that it was just signatures over and over and over, but it was awesome. London Dungeon, Tower of London, Cattle Mutilation, Diving Headbutt, Dive to the outside, Tower of London to the ring apron, basically think of every spot you ever loved from a Bryan Danielson or Nigel McGuinness match put them all together and you get what we had here last night. The end comes at thrity minutes when Danielson locks in a triangle choke and delivers elbow after elbow until Todd Sinclair stops the match.

After the match the crowd is going nuts. The ROH locker room empties and surrounds the ring. As this happens New York roars into a "We Will Miss You" chant. Nigel is the first in the ring and he thanks everyone out side the ring, Cary Silkin, Bryan Danielson, and the fans of course making him look like a professional wrestler.

When Danielson takes the mic the crows errupts into a "Best in the World" chant that Danielson stops by saying that if you look at the past year he hasn't had the best matches in ROH. This statment gets a rather humorous "bullshit" chant. Danielson then puts over the American Wolves as the best guys in ROH as well as saying that Aries is his best rivalry in ROH. He then leads a cheer for Cary Silkin, as well as for Todd Sinclair to which Danielson then says "that's the last time we'll here that chant." Some guy then yells "You punched him in the ear" (refering to a spot in the match) to which Danielson says "I don't know then next time I'll be able to do that. At that someone yells "Punch John Cena." Danielson says "You want me to punch John Cena." The crowd then goes into a chant of "He's Gonna Get his Fuckin' Head Kicked In." Danielson finishes by saying ROH his by far his favorite place he ever wrestled and he wants everyone to support ROH no matter where he goes. He then asks to hit his music. THe New York fans then go nuts singing "The Final Countdown" in a way that would make the band Europe jealous

And then the countdown ends and ROH walks off into the sunset... A sunset called World Wrestling Entertainment...

It was by far the best show I've ever been to and I'd have to say it might be one of the best shows I've ever seen period. Danielson/McGuinness was the best match of the night and even better than their showing at Unified. The ladder war was amazing. And that's about all I have to say tonight. If you have any questions just ask and I'll answer.

Jim Cornette being back in ROH is definitely a good thing. Austin Aries is not a guy I am really into, but when you really watch him, he's one of the best guys working today. He can pretty much work any style of match, and he's a ridiculously good heel promo. It's a shame they don't really have any big faces to put against him. Kenny Omega and Petey Williams are getting pushed against him, but that just doesn't seem right.

Dare I say it, Roderick Strong is probably the best opponent I can think of for Aries at this point in time. They have the history, and with Danielson and McGuinness gone, Strong stepping up would be good. He's a good worker, and while some think he is bland, I don't think that is helped from him not really doing anything of note.

The Young Bucks get a really good rub here, it seems. I can see a really cool feud between them and The American Wolves. I wouldn't put the ROH World Tag Titles on them just yet.

It seems from the results and stuff I've been reading that Colt Cabana is the guy that they're pushing for the big feud with Austin Aries.

But after last night's match I wouldn't be surprised if both El Generico and Kevin Steen and The American Wolves break up within the next few months. My guess would be that Generico and Davey Richards would wind up the faces. Davey Richards is my prediction as the guy that finally unseats A Double. Though I don't think that'll happen until Final Battle 2009 at the earliest and most likley some time in mid-2010 is most likely.

It's one man's opinion but I thought it was definitly better than their Unfied match. Though that could just be the fact that the crowd was red hot.

Comparing Kingston to Dan Maff :nono:

I've only seen this match from Kingston, and he just seems like a fat guy that does brutal looking suplexes where he drops people on their heads much the same way as Dan Maff. Perhaps he wrestled like this because his match against Hero was part of a big feud, but that's all he seems to me.

Yeah, Petey Williams is a damn good wrestler too, I thought it was logical and not underwhelming.

I'm a ROH mark :(...

I'd hate to think the great (not being sarcastic) CSLi Manning thinks I'm a fuckwit.

Ah ha, everyone in this forum is a mark for something, that was aimed at that type of ROH mark (aka the frothing one's who think that wrestling exists specifically for them) You cool mane

You should have heard the Eddie Edwards chant he got. It was the loudest cheer of anyone not named Nigel or Bryan.

They have a lot of history across a lot of promotions. Have a look around on youtube, I think their CZW feud is chronicled there.

I remember when people used to talk about how ROH should not waste their time with Eddie Edwards, because he is bland and not that great a worker and only his local fans give a shit about him. Now the dude is a hot topic on the independent scene.

Colt Cabana does seem like a candidate to face A-Double, but I don't know -- I'm just not feeling that either. I love Colt. I think he is both very entertaining and a great worker, but he just hasn't been "on fire" since returning to ROH. I think he needs to win something else before he steps up to challenge for the ROH World Title seriously. If they did the Race to the Top Tournament again, Cabana would be my choice to win it and then face Austin Aries and possibly win the title. But yeah.

I'm actually wondering if The Briscoes could do a temporary split and go after after the ROH World Title. Jay Briscoe seems to be the one considered the stronger of the two workers, so perhaps they could kind of do a Jack and Gerry thing with him and Mark. Don't make them feud or anything, but let them try and get respective singles careers going. Jay Briscoe as ROH World Champion might be something that the ROH faithful might actually support.
