View Full Version : Bragging Rights = Brand Wars?
From PWInsider:
The theme for the 10/25 WWE Bragging Rights PPV will be battles between Raw and Smackdown talents for "bragging rights" over which brand is better.
The logo for the PPV will feature red and blue lettering, playing off the official colors for each brand.
There are also plans to bring in the interactive voting element from Cyber Sunday, the PPV Bragging Rights will replace.
Bragging Rights will take place at the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, PA.

It sounds like we're going to see a stable of Raw superstars take on a stable of Smackdown superstars.

would this mean that cena will have to face somebody that isnt orton, hhh or batista
will it be punk?
or will they just have cena vs batista, because it is as predictable as my alarm clock

Wow, when I suggested the WWE do this, I didn't think they would actually do it.

they need to do run ins and screw up some matches
10$ says they still work a Randy Orton vs John Cena match in this card.

I hope they throw a lot of Champion vs. Champion Matches on the show. John Cena vs. CM Punk vs. Christian, Kofi Kingston vs. John Morrison, Mickie James vs. Michelle McCool and a Unified WWE Tag Team Title match. That is enough to get me somewhat interested in the PPV right there.

As long as there are ZERO titles on the line, I'm fine with all of this. I guess the only titles that could be on the line are the tag titles, but with Jerishow being a team that already consists of SD and Raw, I"d want them to face three brand specific teams in a tornado fourway match of some variety. If they appear at all.
In fact, I"d rather it be a tag team triple threat with brand specific teams battling for the #1 contenders spot.

That is exactly what I envisioned. Although, I did have the Tag Team Titles being defended as a way of getting at least one title match on the show, the #1 Contender's match sounds a lot tidier. I think just add Jericho & Show to add some star power, though.
Many said that the match was "too big" for a PPV like Bragging Rights, but if they want it to be a big deal, doing another Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels match is a great way to pique interest. Especially if they want this to be a yearly thing, and for it to be remembered as more than "filler."
My original idea for the card was something like:
* John Cena vs. Christian vs. CM Punk in a Champion of Champions Match
* Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker
* Chris Jericho & Big Show vs. MVP & Mark Henry vs. Cryme Tyme vs. The Round Table for the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship
* Randy Orton vs. Batista
* Rey Mysterio vs. The Hurricane
* Triple H vs. William Regal
* Kofi Kingston vs. John Morrison in a Champion vs. Champion Match
* Mickie James vs. Michelle McCool in a Champion vs. Champion Match
I still think something like this would fit really nicely. The Champion vs. Champion Matches would be fun, and both have a different dynamic (face vs. face and heel vs. face). Mickie James can go over McCool, because James is the face, and the Divas Title could use the rub. Kofi Kingston seems less a "sure thing" than John Morrison, so Kofi could keep raising the prestige over the already tremendously booked IC Title.
Triple H vs. William Regal, Rey Mysterio vs. The Hurricane and Randy Orton vs. Batista would be RAW vs. ECW, SmackDown! vs. ECW and RAW vs. SmackDown!. It'd sort of be a "round robin" thing. Triple H would go over Regal; The Hurricane can go over Mysterio, who can still be putting guys over for getting suspended; and Batista can go over Randy Orton in the "most personal" of the inter-brand matches.
The Unified WWE Tag Team Title Match would probably have Jeri-Show retain, but that is not all bad. The Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker match would be one of the closest things the WWE has to a "draw" at the moment, and they're not exactly going to do it at WrestleMania again. HBK can get his win back so that they can hypothetically promote another match between the two.
The main event COULD be a huge opportunity for the WWE to make ECW look like a credible entity. While Christian would just get a huge rub by being made to look on Cena and Punk's level -- while those two sort of cancel each other out, Christian could hit both guys with a steel chair or the ECW Title belt (taking advantage of the "No DQ in Triple Threats" rule) and pin CM Punk. The ECW Champion standing tall at the end of the show might get a few people interested in that show.
Ultimately, while ECW has the Champion of Champions, RAW would win both Champion vs. Champion Matches, and also has Shawn Michaels, Triple H and Big Show successfully represent RAW. SmackDown! comes out looking the weakest, which may not be ideal, but given how great they are, they can take the hit to put RAW over (which is what is going to happen anyway). Batista and Chris Jericho both get wins for the brand, and their talent will probably steal the show, anyway.
* Randy Orton vs. Batista
and Batista can go over Randy Orton in the "most personal" of the inter-brand matches.
Yah this time it will be personal. That last Orton Vs Batista match was almost personal and the one before that was half way personal and the one before that was kinda personal and the one before that was the start of something that was getting personal and the one before that, Randy Orton personally customized his trunks. But this time. It's PERSONALLL!

I never said that all their previous matches haven't been personal, but the other ones I suggested would be far less personal. There is history between William Regal and Triple H, but it's not really "WWE blood feud" relevant.
is that what they call having the same match over and over and over and over x5 more, again? " WWE blood fued ".

In the WWE...yes. Pretty sure Orton and Batista got their start together, and Orton has like tried to end Batista's career nine or more times by now. If that isn't "personal" then what is?

Maybe they could have a Raw vs Smackdown elimination match and then a Smackdown superstar thinks he has won but then Hardcore Holly comes down to the ring and KAPOW clothesline over the top rope. Holly wins. This could ensure the biggest bidding war for a free agent since Scott Steiner.

They should do it where they have a few singles matches between Raw and Smackdown stars and then the winners go on to face each other in a 6-Man or 8-Man tag main event.

Towards the start of the brand extension this would've been awesome. But after years of people popping up on each others shows its kinda watered it down.
So i give this one big giant - meh.

I'd prefer a 5 on 3 situation or something similar.
I hate it when things just seem to work out conveniently. Having 4 guys from each show win to make the sides equal stinks of convenient booking. It's like with this year's draft. Odd how the US/IC and the Divas/Women's Champs managed to switch places during a random draft.
Perhaps that's just me though. :-\

Yea, that's what I would prefer as well. I just figured it would be more likely if the sides were even.

Yet they somehow always seem to manage a Raw Champ vs. Smackdown Champ vs. ECW champ match either at that show or within one week either side.
