Troubled rapper DMX the latest celeb trying to cash in on MMA (http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/mma/blog/cagewriter/post/Troubled-rapper-DMX-the-latest-celeb-trying-to-c?urn=mma,192865)

The rapper DMX is scheduled for a fight against Eric Martinez on the same card where Butterbean will take on Tank Abbott.

Go ahead, read that sentence again, and let it soak in.

Thunder Promotions (http://www.thunderpromotions.com/upcomingevents.php), who is putting on this card in Birmingham, Ala. on Dec. 12, must not have been satisfied that the Butterbean/Tank Abbott bout was enough of a freak show fight. Eric "Butterbean" Esch, at 5'11", 350 lbs., will likely outweigh the veteran Abbott by nearly 100 lbs.

But nothing screams freak show fights like a celebrity bout. DMX, the rapper who once was a part of Ruff Ryders, has become better known for his run-ins with the law than his musical talents. Cocaine and marijuana possession, theft, animal cruelty, criminal weapon possession, DUI, parole violations and giving a false name and social security number at a hospital are all part of his past.

In a recent interview, DMX said that he is working on two albums now because "the streets need him. (http://www.prefixmag.com/news/dmx-says-hes-working-on-two-albums-ready-for-his-c/33026/)" He didn't mention any training for MMA, but hey, who needs to train for a fight? (http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/blog/cagewriter/post/Spencer-Pratt-please-stay-away-from-MMA?urn=mma,165302) The good news for DMX is that MMA is not regulated in Alabama, which is why freak show fights like this can happen. Drug testing is usually under the control of the state regulatory commissions, so DMX will most likely not have to take a drug test.

Reality TV star Spencer Pratt (http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/blog/cagewriter/post/Spencer-Pratt-please-stay-away-from-MMA?urn=mma,165302) and baseball player Jose Canseco (http://sports.espn.go.com/extra/mma/news/story?id=4205900) have also dipped their toes in the MMA pool. With Canseco, his fight ended in 77 seconds. Let's see if DMX can last that long.

The fight is against a manager of his record label. And supposedly it's a wrestling match as opposed to a MMA fight. Regardless, it'll be a fix.

DMX fight update: Rapper is out because he wanted the fight fixed?
By Steve Cofield

Earl Simmons better known as "DMX" isn't such a tough guy afterall. The rapper made headlines back in September when it leaked that he'd be making his debut as an MMA fighter against someone named Eric Martinez on a Dec. 12 Alabama card.

DMX, 38, started trash talking from the get-go saying he wasn't even going to train for the fight:

"We got a phone call, you know, asking if I wanted to participate in it. Yeah, why not? I figured I could do it. I'm just going to walk in as it is... It wouldn't be fair if I trained. I can fight for real though, so it is what it is."

The fight is now off because of ridiculous language DMX and his manager wanted in the fight contract. DMX needs to talk pro wrestling promoter Vince McMahon. According to documents acquired by TMZ:

X's manager, Nakia Walker, submitted an addendum to the rapper's original contract for the fight, stipulating: "Event Promoter and Management agree that [DMX] is scheduled to win the Boxing Challenge."

Huh? That doesn't sound like a real fight.

Walker also added a line which read, "All parties agree this event has been scheduled to occur only in fun and that the artist involved is not a professional boxer."

Part of the agreement was also not to release any of the details of the pre-determined results to the public. DMX now says he wants to fight regardless but the promoters, with a sour taste in their mouths, said no dice. Thunder Promotions has inserted Coolio to fight Martinez.

DMX is fresh out jail after serving a 90 day sentence in Arizona. He was locked up on charges of animal cruelty, theft and drug possession.
