i watched swingers with high hopes and was let down immensely. not to say that it's bad, i just didn't get into it. i love sin city, however.

Swingers is good but I think it's a bit overrated. It has some great bits, like the answering machine scene. Pure gold.
It's a good comedy, but it's a little overblown by the cult crowd.

I love Sin City because

a) It's Noir style

b) it's graphic novel style

c) the segmented stories. I love anthology type films

d) I love the stylized dialogue. Particularly the narration device. I guess that would qualify more as monologue. In any event, I think that's awesome.
It's a movie about badasses, and while they kick their share of ass, it's more interested in what they're personalities are, and what they think about before, after, and during ass kicking.
It benefits from a less is more approach to the comic action.
It's like a character study on 3 different types of action heroes. The hero cop, the powerhouse renegade, and the suave Bond-like hero.

Plus the bookend segments with assassin Josh Hartnett are awesome.

Went with Swingers because of how long it's been around combined with how good it is. As much as I love it, Sin City is still pretty 'fresh' to me. So Swingers via nostalgia
