My professor asked me to find examples in film of intresting usage of silence. Can anyone think of films that use this?
So far the only example I could come up with is from Saving Private Ryan during the D-Day scene.

A lot of David Lynch's movies use that. Like every scene is almost silent.

Proof, with Hugo Weaving and Russell Crowe is a good example. We used it in my film class to analyze it's uses of sound. There's some scenes with absolute silence which could work well.

I can't really recommend a movie, but it always freaks me out when something really revealing to the movies plot comes into light, and it impacts you. The silence is really creepy and impactful.
LOL, Scary Movie's coming into my mind now. I'm not sure, but I think there were some pretty freaky silent scenes in "The Ring" when it changed scene.

The Godfather. Think of the times when Malron Brando is at the funeral parlor looking over the body of Sonny, or when Al Pacino is sitting at the table before he assassinates someone. Also, Godfather II, the final scene where Al Pacino stares into space. A very powerful silent scene.

Thanks for your help everyone. Right before I left for class I rememberd the scene in 2001 when Hal cuts off the guy and he is floating through space in silence. I showed the clip and my professor loved it.
