Heavyweights Junior dos Santos and Gabriel Gonzaga are likely to fight at UFC 108 on January 2 in Las Vegas, according to reports published Monday, which confirmed rumors that first surfaced over the weekend.

Dos Santos (9-1) opened his UFC career with back-to-back first-round knockouts of Fabricio Werdum and Stefan Struve, before forcing Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic to submit to punches in the third-round of their September bout.

Gonzaga (11-4), previously rumored to be fighting Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 107, bounced back from a March loss to Shane Carwin with a first-round knockout of newcomer Chris Tuchscherer in August to improve to 3-1 in his last four fights.

UFC 108, which will air live on pay-per-view from the MGM Grand Garden Arena, is expected to feature middleweight champ Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort and Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva

Rumoured card for UFC 108 is as follows:

Middleweight Championship:
-Anderson Silva V Vitor Belfort
-Rashad Evans V Thiago Silva
-Wanderlei Silva V Yoshihiro "Sexyama" Akiyama
-Gabriel Gonzaga V Junior Dos Santos
-Cole Miller V Dan Lauzon (prelim)
-Sam Stout V Joe Lauzon (prelim)

Pretty sick line-up imo

Gabriel Gonzaga is one of my favorite fighters, I hope he can take out Dos Santos.

Dos Santos has still yet to impress me but the men he has beaten does impress me, so we'll see.

What Would Kevin Do?

I want Akiyama to do well, but Silva really needs to get a win under his belt, or he'll be gone soon.

Also, did Silva drop a weight class officially?

TOKYO -- Yoshihiro Akiyama announced Tuesday that he will be facing Wanderlei Silva next in a middleweight bout at UFC 110 on Feb. 6 in Las Vegas or at UFC 111, which is rumored to mark the promotion’s debut in Sydney, Australia, in late February.

Akiyama shared the news Tuesday during a news conference for the UFC’s “Undisputed” video game release.

The Japanese-Korean fighter, who was a former star for the Dream and K-1 Hero’s promotions, signed with the UFC in February.

Akiyama took a close split decision victory over Alan Belcher at UFC 100 last July in Las Vegas. The three-round slugfest earned the duo “Fight of the Night” honors and a hefty $100,000 bonus each from the promotion.

As Pride Fighting Championships’ feared 205-pound champion, Silva became a bona fide legend in Japan. Since re-joining the UFC ranks in late 2007, his swing-for-the-fences mentality has continued to engage fans, even in his three Octagon losses to Chuck Liddell, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and mostly recently to Rich Franklin at UFC 99 last June in Cologne, Germany. Silva knocked out Keith Jardine in 36 seconds at UFC 84 in May 2008.

The bout with Akiyama will be the Brazilian’s first at 185 pounds.
