# Taz defeated Yoshihiro Tajiri to retain the ECW World Heavyweight Championship (10:06)

* Taz choked Tajiri out with the Tazmision using barbed wire

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ECW_Heat_Wave#1999

I remember the camera panning out so as not to show this, I also remember the major backlash it caused on the internet and allegedly with the TNN Executives. This moment was blamed for the falling out with TNN by more than a few people.

At the time, on Taz's website, he said something along the lines of, "Yes it was real, Tajiri knows what he did to deserve it." I'm of course paraphrasing but, I can't find the original website.

So, I'm asking you guys, what the fuck happened? Why did Taz shove barbwire in Tajiri's mouth and choke him out??? What could he have possibly done to deserve something like that? I watched the match several times and still can't come up with an answer.

edit: as thecc points out, I was "worked". Maybe I should be a little more clear with my question. Taz has since come out saying it was Heyman's idea to use barbwire on Tajiri anyways and aside from the fact that it pissed off the TNN Executives in a bad way making it dumb, I don't see any motivation for the assault. It was a step beyond normal angry Taz and was pushed as retribution for something in the match. Was there ever an explanation?

I know I did, but what I'm asking is, what in the match could have been a reason for the barbwire?

Also, considering that the TNN executives walked out on this PPV because of the act, why do it at all?

edit: on Facebook Taz answers the question of whose idea it was:
2- George Coles (Tampa Bay, FL)
Who's idea was it to use barb wire when you choked out Tajiri?

**That would be Mr.Dangerously

I still don't get the motivation or the "kayfabe" answer from Taz in 1999.

I think you're looking into it too much.

Is this seriously a question? Did you listen to the commentary? Hell, do you know anything about ECW?

Isn't it the show on the Syfy channel? The one with the zombie character and that vampire dude Thorn?

Once pre-TNN at a house show in Jacksonville, Florida at the Prime Osbourne Auditorium, Sabu defeated Taz in a non-sanctioned FTW Title match. I got Taz and Sabu's blood all over my shoes from chasing them around the arena. Awesome match.

Once during the TNN era, though I think they ended up not televising it because the Morrocco Shrine sucked as a venue. Got to see the Sandman entrance, Dusty Rhodes, Steve Corino, Jack Victory. Was okay, better card over-all. Mikey Whipwreck was there along with the Sinister Minister.

Saw the Dudleys/Dreamer and Sandman, Taz/Tajiri, can't remember who else was there.. Didn't get to see RVD but I do remember Sabu being there..

Twice. This Heatwave and the one before it. Both were in Dayton.

Awesome. Where in the arena?

The level above the floor. The walkway was to my left I think. It was a small arena so you really couldn't have a bad seat. I think Super Crazy ended up doing a spot kind of near wear I was.

Heatwave '98 is one of my favorite shows of all time. The RVD/Sabu/Shinzaki/Hayabusa tag match, Bam Bam/Taz, Tanaka/Awesome... Very jealous right now.

That match was amazing but when I saw it I was initially confused because my only experience with Shinzaki was him feuding with Skip and Barry Horowitz in the WWF. I assumed he was going to be some jobber in ECW too. Oh how wrong I was.
