LYOTO MACHIDA says he is willing to step up to heavyweight to fight champion Brock Lesnar.

The light-heavyweight titleholder will face Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua at UFC 104 on October 24 but admits he has one eye on Lesnar's gold.

Brazilian star Machida, 31, claims he will make the move if he successfully defends his 205lbs strap five times in a row.

Speaking to Sherdog.com he said: "My focus right now is on the light-heavyweight division but in the future I would like to do a couple of fights [at heavyweight] against people like Brock Lesnar.

"I respect Brock Lesnar as a fighter but I know I can fight with him.

"He would be a big challenge for me because he is a big guy, very, very strong, very powerful and very quick.

"But I like the challenge — it would be very good for me."

That'd be something.

that'd be a war!

It's Lesnar's takedown speed vs Machida's precision.

I would pay to see it. If Machida wins, would that make him the best pound for pound in Dana's eyes instead of Silva? (personally, I think it's GSP, but that's another story)

i think it'd still be silva. heavyweight seems to be not so much about skill and technique but more using your weight well. which is something GSP does too actually but anyway.

If Lesnar were to get a hold of Machida, Michida will get murdered.

I suppose next you are going to say if Machida keeps his distance and lands more strikes he will get a decision?

David Vs. Goliath was never a grappling contest.

I think he was 220 something when he fought BJ Penn many years ago. So maybe he walks around that.

Not enough for it really matter. Even if it's 230, he is going to be at least 60lbs lighter than Brock.

The way I see it with Brock, is right now in the UFC, anyone who's big enough, doesn't have the speed, and anyone with the speed, doesn't have the size. The big fucker is only 32 as well. He has a very good chance of being the Fedor of the next decade.

You jest but Machida has been able to fight Rashad, Tito, and Thiago Silva without being touched. Brock is bigger and slower than all of them. Machida has the ellusivness to stay away...

...but I go back to what I originally said...

My money would be heavy on Brock though.

My point was, is that goes without saying, just as my follow up does.

You have to remember that those guys fourght with much more caution than Brock would. For starters, the size of his neck, and his height advantage is going to mean his chin will fair 10 times better than anybody elses. He will be able to move in on Machida, and chance eating a strike without the same danger. And if he does, then the inevitable will occur.

Tito Ortiz is not faster than Brock, my friend. Particulally when they fought each other.

.
machida doesnt get touched because he uses good distance (playing his opponent's range) and timing. however the distance machida will have to keep is too far for him to be able to effectively counter attack. also brock is 100 times better of a wrestler than any of the guys that machida has faced in the past.

The didnt but brock is much faster than tito. Thats why hes such a freak.

Brock has pretty good twitch/burst speed but if Machida can keep his distance Brock will tire soon since he's so big and moves around so much.
