here is your explanation from 4w-wrestling.com
Thanks to Steve for the following:
Hey there, I emailed WWE Canada and ask what was up with them changing Benoit's hometown, right before the big PPV in Edmonton. I got the following reply:
Thank you for your recent comments regarding Chris Benoit.
WWE Canada has checked into your questions and, as a result, Mr. McMahon has issued the following statement:
“We as a company are proud of Chris Benoit’s accomplishments and his Canadian heritage. But since Chris Benoit has been living in Atlanta for over a decade, it is important to reflect an accurate assessment of where he is currently residing.”
For his part, Chris Benoit states: ”No matter where I live, which is currently Atlanta, Georgia, I’m proud to be from Edmonton, Alberta Canada. And I’m looking forward to returning home as the World Heavyweight Champion at the WWE RAW Backlash Pay-Per-View event at Rexall Place on Sunday, April 18.”
Once again, thank you for your comments – we’re proud to have such enthusiastic and involved fans in Canada. Chris is very excited about presenting the belt to his fellow Edmontonians at Backlash.
Sincerely,
WWE Fan Services

Thats funny, we are trying to be accurate.
So now everyone is going to announced as being from where they live? Damn there are going to be a lot of changes.
RVD will be from LA, Austin will be from San Antonio, and half the roster will be form Florida. On a side note, I guess they must pay Gail Kim a lot of money to fly in from Korea every week,a nd Nidia from Puerto Rico.
I cant wait to hear all the changes in the coming weeks.
Regardless of what their reason is, A) its just dumb to begin with and B) why not wait till after Backlash?

Accuracy? So are they saying Mankind wasn't from Truth or Consequences, NM? Undertaker isn't from Death Valley?
Damn...makes all those hours spent looking for where exactly "Parts Unknown" is in my atlas seem kind of pointless... :nono:

Well, we've seen some changes recently anyways like the Dudleyz being from NYC instead of Dudleyville. Parts unknown is no longer a hometown. And we thought Conway was an American, but a french sympathizer, but now he's from Quebec? Nidia is in Puerto Rico. What's next, they gonna say Booker T, DVon, Shelton Benjamin all gonna be from Africa. Regal, Storm, Christian, Test, Trish all gonna be American now? I guess everything has begun again.

Well, I guess that discribes why the Dudleys are from New York, New York, and not Dudleyville anymore.

The real reason as to why they did it was because "they didn't want to isolate American fans" :|.
Whatever, announce him from Edmonton at the ppv and I'll be happy.

Regal should be hailing from wherever he lives as well, so I'm guessing William's now hailing from "Miami, Florida".

Though I'm not sure, just an assumption.
It's ironic that WWE is trying to be accurate when they can't explain why Kane doesn't have any burn scars on his body.

Basically, they want to reflect their wrestlers' current hometowns accurately. Their Canadian wrestlers that is.
Gail Kim has a hell of a commute from Korea then.
There is no logic behind their doing this because it's not constant. You think they will stra billing William Regal from Atlanta?
It's wrestling. It's fake. The names and bodies are usually fake so now the home towns are.
