If you're not upgrading from Vista, you need a clean install.

Someone link me to a easy to install download that'll be ok long term in case of updates and the like or is that impossible to know? Also I've nothing to store stuff on but theres one folder I'd want to keep while everything else can go pretty much, is there a way to stick that on a partition and wipe everything else and then bring it back over to the new Windows and if so I'll need idiot instructions for that too :D

Then back them up. Buy another HDD.

Because upgrading is shit, leftover registry crap, DLLs and bloat. Upgrading is for people who don't know what they are doing.

Or for people who couldn't afford the full version.

You can still do a clean install with an upgrade version, you just need to insert your old media.

...go on

If it's any consolation, I formated the drive, did a clean Vista install then upgraded to 7.

ok, I lie, I have't tested it, but all MS operating systems worked that way in the past, so can't see why they'd change it now. You could also install without a product key, then activate it later once it's installed.

I know the loophole where you can install a clean version without activating, then installing the upgrade using the same disc then activating has been fixed with 7. Apparently the upgrade discs can no longer be booted from.

Has anybody had problems with your computer freezing when you leave it for a while and come back? Like, I can tell it went to start my screen saver but then it just froze. Has happened frequently since I put Windows 7 on my comp two days ago...

No problems here.

I only have minor gripes that deal with what Microsoft decided to do, nothing about the OS itself.

Which screen saver are you using? Does it happen with all of them?
