View Full Version : Do you think we'll ever see a RAW or Impact without a single match?
Simple question. I believe the closest we've come is like 5 minutes total wrestling on a RAW. Do you think we'll ever see a RAW, Impact or other (major) show without any matches? And by this I mean not one officially schedueled (or 'impromptu') match, just one angle after another.

Probably.

Impact is the most likely show for it to happen on.
On a semi-related topic, does anybody know if there has been a Raw or Impact where no matches had a single pinfall or submission?

I do remember a show way back in I believe it was 97 on RAW were every match was either a no contest or was won as a result of a DQ or countout.

I know there were no live matches after Chris Benoit killed his family, but did they show his documentary or his Best of matches?

If it ever happens it'll be on RAW.

Yeah, they showed his DVD edited with full matches strewn throughout.

There's loads of matches on Raw these days. Better than in like 2004/5 when there were barely 4 matches every Monday.
Was it in like 2003 when there were only 2 matches on one episode of Raw?

I can remember an episode of Smackdown in early 2006 where they had only 2 matches - one being Benoit vs Orton and the other a 20 man battle royal.

Dunno if it was EVERY match, but certain Nitros had the nWo running in on a shit-ton of matches each night for no real reason.

Also the night that featured the Benoit/HHH Iron Man match had the first hour filled up by a #1 contender battle royal as well.

I remember the Kane and Lita wedding having matches with like 2 or 3 commercial breaks each.

Voted No for RAW unless you would count a tribute or anniversary show that only shows highlights like how WWE used to have Top 10 matches of the Year at the end of the year. Probably could happen to an ECW or TNA show since they only have 1 hour and around 15 minutes alone is taken up by commercials.
10th Anniversary RAW featured no matches. Was just some Slammy Awards-style event showcasing the best moments, etc. of the last 10 years (and I obviously think this show was on the normal Monday night time slot).

No. Such a thing would never work.

I kind of disagree. I mean, it'd require ambition and a talented writing staff to pull it off, so it's not really likely, nor is it really a good idea; but sometimes cop shows, for example, will do an episode where a crime is not investigated, and sometimes they turn out to be the most compelling of the series.
It's not exactly the same thing, but if a head writer got ambitious enough to do it, and they had the angles to hold interest, I don't think it is fair to say it would never work.

Enough angles to hold interest you say? Maybe you haven't seen the terrible angles on RAW lately.

Not a completely standard edition of Raw, no. Could you imagine paying good money to go there, be in the arena, the ring there, all of that...only to not see a single match? Fans would feel ripped off.
From a strictly TV perspective, it could work...but it would definitely rip off a lot of live paying customers.
And if there are no fans/no ring, etc...it's a gimmick Raw and it doesn't count.
