Just watching that old Pillman promo that Manning posted, with Pillan throwing around the words Smart Marks. Hard to argue that ECW didn't give birth to the thing that we all are a part of, yet we all deny cause of the negative associations.

I don't think it created the IWC, seeing as to how there were dirt sheet writers long before there were a ton of wrestling websites, but they were the first to acknowledge the culture openly.

The IWC existed by way of newsletters and BBS and stuff since the early 90s at least. Smarks in any kind of number probably date back to the mid-80s.

Back then though it was the NWC and it's members were actually, on average, actually fatter, sweatier, and hornier than they are now.

Probably because back then you'd either be in an actual room with people so you could see all the lardasses or was limited to how many people you knew based on the regional aspect of wrestling before the internet.

If anything, the internet made it easier for people to form groups and create discussions in a national level like how WWF changed wrestling from regional to national.
