The other day a few friends and I were talking about music and heavy metal came up. I have been a fan for over 10 years now. I was trying to figure out when I started listening and I realized it was about the time I started getting into ECW.
ECW introduced me to so many bands just from the entrance themes and commercial promos...Prong, Metallica, Alice in Chains, Pantera, White Zombie, Anthrax, etc. Who else?

There was one pay per view about ten years ago, the one where HHH had started hitting all the main eventers with the sledgehammer and I think it ended up a 6 way or something. The video package for that was System of a Down = Sugar. (The album had just came out) and thats when I first heard them. I remember they used Sevendust as well at Unforgiven 2002 I think (I may be wrong, but the video package for that had Goldberg spearing HHH through the barrier) I remember when CZW used Mushroomhead as well.

None of these bands are Heavy Metal, and Alice in Chains isn't metal at all.

Pantera and Anthrax are Thrash metal. If you want to be nit picky, then who do you class as heavy metal?

Is Alice in Chains aluminum? Like a real thin/light metal.

Grunge :)

I would say they are more Duck Tape.

I remember one of the early themes of the new WWE version of ECW being "Let The Bodies Hit The Floor" by Drowning Pool. However, I'm not really sure if that qualifies as metal or just hard rock or something.

Nit picky, you say.

Well basically I hate all the sub-genres being made up all the time, but this is not the case here.

You can clearly tell Heavy Metal from Thrash Metal, Death Metal, etc.

And Heavy Metal would be Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Helloween, etc.

It was Backlash this year when I discovered The Veer Union. Pretty good.

Since when is Pantera not metal or Metallica or Anthrax?
Alice in Chains is up for debate. I mean they are metal enough to be allowed by fans to be placed on the metal-archives.com.
I know what the differences between bands like Hypocrisy and Helloween are. When I said heavy metal, I was not being specific to pure heavy metal..I just meant the overall genre.

It's cool.

Then again, to some people all kinds of heavier music is Heavy Metal, so the discussion is kind of pointless, as everyone would have a different perspective depending on how much into metal they are.
