View Full Version : Will WWE give Rey Mysterio another mega push?

I haven't always been the biggest fan of Rey Mysterio in WWE, however he has recently been on fire. His matches are generally the best on any show he is on, especially live he is amazing to watch, and makes a match really fun. I actually am able to believe that he can beat a Batista, or Big Show.
On top of that, the guy shills huge merchandise numbers, and is always able to be used well in a great storyline. WWE could use this feud with Batista to build him up huge as a threat to the Undertaker, and maybe have Rey take the title from him at Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber. It could all build to a huge Rey/Punk Title Match at Wrestlemania. The match itself would of course be off the charts, and Punk can obviously talk up a fight.
One thing different than his last run must be different. He has to go over guys clean, in smart innovative ways. Because lets be honest, Batista or Show, or Taker could destroy Rey. However, he is just so fast and high impact with his creative move set that it is possible for him to have clean victories over the huge stars.
So to make a point of this thread... Have you ever seen Rey live? And do you agree that he is amazing? Would you like to see Rey get this mega push? And if so do you agree that Punk would be a great climax to the push at Wrestlemania, or perhaps another worker and if so who?

I do enjoy watching Rey in the ring. I am enjoying this Rey/Batista feud that is shaping up and Somehow I see Rey being the overall winner. IMO at this point Rey will always be in the hunt but I don't see him having another title run

I wouldn't be suprise in the least if Rey was set to face either Undertaker or CM Punk at WM26 but I highly doubt he will get a title run any time soon.
The time is right. Rey has been absolutely solid for over a year now. But please don't get him into any "Oh poor me" storylines.

Yeah if they are ever going to do it, now's the time. I'd put it on him at wm again. But yeah clean wins are a must this time around.

Have you ever seen Rey live?
Yes I have.
And do you agree that he is amazing?
Not really. He is good, but I have never seen him as "great" like a lot of people have.
Would you like to see Rey get this mega push?
Absolutely not. I don't want to see him in the main event scene, much less World Champion again.

I hope he gets another world title run before he retires.

Good to hear some positive support for Rey. He is a very good performer. I don't really want to see him pushed over anyone, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did get a mega-push. The time does seem right.

No, Rey Rey will NOT be in the main event any time soon unless Chavo dies.
And in that case I think he'll only get a US title push.
Or unless Rey grows about a foot and a half while putting on a good 75-100lbs.
He was awesome in WCW, but then again remember when the razor cell phones were top of the line? Yea, he's past his prime. He still has a great drawing power and is hella over with the kids (who somehow control the demographic.... god damned pg rating) but he won't be in the main event scene.
I'm pretty sure we'll see Dolph Ziggler get a world title run before Rey again.
I wouldn't mind Rey winning the ECW World Heavyweight Championship.

Fun fact: Rey's last title run only came because he milked his dead friend's legacy
So I would think not

I'd be up for it.
His fued with Jericho earlier this year was one of the best rivalries in recent years. And that easily could have been over a world title instead of a midcard one.

He's only over with the kids nowadays because he does that stupid headtouch thing with the ones that wear the masks.
I hate that.

Rey doesn't need another World Title run. [/thread]
Whoa! If Horny can defeat an established pro wrestler like Chavo Guerrero on numerous occassions then Rey Mysterio can very well win the Championship [/thread]

I think that is a fantastic idea. Maybe during the next draft Rey gets traded for Christian, and then ends up winning the ECW title. Holds it for a good 5 or 6 months, it would be great for ECW, Rey, and the fans. Although a Christian/Rey feud would blow the roof off of my life.
Christian versus Rey Mysterio would be fresh and awesome.

As always, I don't really get all the mysterio hate. I mean if you want to bash his mic skills fine. Even tho there is worse out there.
But bashing his in-ring ability? Are you fucking kidding me?

Spot on.
If you've ever seen Mysterio's work in the Mexico, the original ECW and WCW, I don't see how you can bash the guy's ability. Hands down one of the best cruiserweights ever.

Factually incorrect?
Or do you want to ignore the Eddie chants during his world title matches?

Rey Mysterio was always just a stone's throw away from a World Title. His first PPV match against Kurt fucking Angle. At WrestleMania 21, Rey went cleanly over Eddie to try and build him up some momentum and credibility. He also had a "main event-level" feud with Eddie Guerrero later that year. Eddie's death certainly moved things along in Rey's favour, and the angle of Rey "doing it for Eddie" was horrible -- but I think we would have gotten Rey as a World Champion, anyway.
In fact, if Eddie Guerrero had won the World Heavyweight Championship like he was supposed to, then I think he could have very easily dropped it off to Rey.
And Rey Mysterio as ECW Champion is a very good idea.
Correction Noid. According to Big Dave's book, it was Randy Orton who was going to win the Heavyweight title and not Eddie Guerrero.

Things seemed really primed for another Eddie title reign in late 2005. He had just done some amazing heel work with Rey Mysterio, and was getting cheered again during his awkward "friendship" with Batista. I find it weird that they put the World Heavyweight Title on Kurt Angle if it was meant to be Randy Orton.
You have a point. Wasn't Orton suspended during this time period?

I cannot truly remember. I do wish, in retrospect, that the 2006 Royal Rumble had been for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship instead of having a random Battle Royal on SmackDown!. Angle winning the 2006 Rumble, and then jumping to SmackDown! as World Heavyweight Champion would have been quite cool.
Noid you need to be in the fucking WWE man.

He was suspended 2 days after WrestleMania 22 took place.

As much as I love Rey Mysterio, he should NOT be WWE champion in my opinion.....and yes, it has to do with his size. You can't have a guy 5 foot 8 or 5 foot 6 being world champ for too long a time period, otherwise it undermines the rest of the roster. Furthermore - it just creates too much awkwardness. Yes - Mysterio can have great matches with guys close to his size (i.e. Jericho, Hardy, etc.), but you can't have him going up against Big Show or Batista too many times. The match would not only be horrible, but it would be too unbelievable.
I would just rather have Rey Mysterio be a World champion on ECW, and have him put on 5 star matches against the likes of Evan Bourne, Kofi Kingston, etc. Put all the Cruiserweights on ECW. Hell - bring back guys like Billy Kidman and Essa Rios.

One of the very few reasons that keep me hooked to wrestling are the fond memories of this guy.

The only thing I have so say regarding Rey Mysterio is that the man will leave a lasting legacy as defining what cruiserweight/lightweight wrestling was all about and that he is a ring general when it comes to someone honoring and mastering their craft, the same way guys like Benoit, Malenko, Anderson, Flair, Jericho, Guerrero, and others have done in this business.
Rey has always been exciting at what he does and I don't think their is ever a dull moment in the ring with Rey because he always finds new moves to add to his extensive collection of high flying moves in his arsenal.
I am up for anything involving Rey, as long as Rey is able to stay healthy and able to stay clean. Meaning that he doesn't become injury prone again like he was a couple of years ago and if he can stay clean off his problem with prescription pain killers.
When the guy is healthy and he is clean, he can compete with the best of them whether your a cruiserweight or super heavyweight.
And regarding any comments from anyone that its not believeable or ackward to have a guy 5' 8" and a 190 pounds as a World Champion, thats just total bullshit and you're full of it.
Too often many people disassociate and mar the term World Champion with the word Heavyweight in it. If it was meant to be a World Heavyweight Championship then wouldn't wrestling institute minimum standards that you should have to be at least 6 feet tall and weight at least 250 pounds in order to compete for the belt.
Being World Champion is about being the best in wrestling at what you do and making people believe that you are the best going up against anyone.
