View Full Version : After watching Superstars (Zack Ryder/Rosa Mendes-related)

Why do I get the feeling that Rosa Mendes is going to be given the gimmick Stephanie McMahon allegedly wanted to slap on Melina, at one point -- that being she turns out to have, or have had at one point, male genitalia?
Seeing the way Zack Ryder has become so smitten with her, and just how ridiculous this angle has been so far (Us being able to see Ryder's fantasies of him and Rosa together? Seriously?), I get the horrible feeling that Rosa is going to reveal herself to be a man.

Have they actually been doing that?

Yeah. I felt sick to my stomach. On ECW, Zack Ryder bumped into Rosa backstage, and basically acted like a grade school boy. "Hi Rosa...I like you...will you come to the ring with me?" Rosa goes "Yeah, maybe." Then she walks away and Ryder has a dream sequence where he is skipping down the same stretch backstage with Rosa, as horrible music is playing.

Sorta like when Hogan was seeing visions of the ultimate warrior but for some reason we could too? That happened in WCW right?

Yes to both. I don't know how I feel about the fantasy sequence thing. It's campy and lame. But then again my favorite angle in all WWE right now is the Hurricane/Paul Burchill thing so it would be pretty hypocritical of me to complain about the lameness of Ryder's visible fantasies. :-\

I think there's a difference between the two

Zack Morris should be ECW World Champion by those rules.

Yeah, there's a bit of a difference between the two. Paul Burchill is obsessed with unmasking The Hurricane, who is essentially a guy who pretends to be a superhero. There's not really anything in the angle that makes you discount the laws of reality as we know them.
I quite enjoy the Hurricane/Burchill feud myself, and I would actually like to see them have their match at Survivor Series. I think the match will be good enough to warrant it.

I laughed at the skipping. A little over-the-top never killed anyone.

Noid, weren't you a fan of that stupid ass 'Buckle up, Teddy!' segment? Zack and Rosa is no more ridiculous than that was.
Anyway, I think that the angle is coming off a little awkward right now, but I really don't see it leading into Rosa being a hermaphrodite, especially in the WWEPG era. The only thing I see so far is Zack becoming obsessed with Rosa to the point where its effecting his career...but he doesn't even care. She eventually spurns his advances, which infuriates him, but he continues to stalk her anyway. Eventually, a face will come to her aid, and another feud is born. Honestly, it may be Shelton Benjamin already.

Has to be one of the gayest endings to a match in professional wrestling history...a guy getting counted out because his "concerned significant other" comes over to check on her, and .2 seconds later, he's all "Hey...let's go home."
Seriously...WTF?

Lauren is the worst thing about ECW anymore. I love that show but she just sucks the life out of every word she speaks. How is she still employed after a month of droning?
SHE'S NOT LILLIAN! GET OVER IT!

Lauren absolutely sucks. The beginning "talk show" segment was absolutely ridiculous, barring a few key moments of hilarity (Tony Atlas's over-the-top laughter was annoying at first, then slowly became hilarious).
But that whole "we can see Zack Ryder's daydreams" thing just blew me away in a bad way. There are rules to what the fans should and shouldn't be able to see. This isn't a fucking sitcom where the actors might play out scenes that never really happen in the universe of the show.
Or maybe that's what WWE wants itself to become... a parody of itself, a fucking sitcom where we see people's daydreams.

The "Buckle up, Teddy" segment I was a fan of merely because of how cheesy it was. It was a different kind of ridiculous. If I had my way, it wouldn't have happened, and Taker would be a much different character. But that was hilarious in the sense that you buy into Taker's smoke and mirrors.
There is no way we should be able to see into Zack Ryder's fantasies. It's just...awkward.

But there is a way that the Undertaker should be able to make smoke pour out of the windows of a limo? I maintain that both of those segments were equally ridiculous and tremendously retarded.

Well with The Undertaker, he's suppose to be able to do "anything". Stuff like lightning strikes, disappearing acts and the ring moving and so on. I think the majority of people just accept it and don't think it's retarded because being able to do weird stuff is part of The Undertaker's gimmick. :-\
So the smoke in the limo thing wasn't as bad as the Zack Ryder daydream sequence, though it was still pretty cheesy. Especially with Long's acting and his voice getting all distorted or whatever.

That's why I've never liked the Undertaker. I've never been able to just 'accept it' with him. If you really want to break it down, it's much more likely for someone to daydream about a hot girl than to make smoke pour out of a limo. I agree that there was no reason for them to SHOW us that he was daydreaming (as his actions were already showing that he was smitten with her) and they pretty much destroyed a fourth wall by doing it, but it's really not any more insulting to our intelligence as fans than The Undertaker has been for twenty years.

Well smoke poured out of the limo, didn't it? What I actually liked about the "Buckle up, Teddy" segment was the cheesy 1980's pop-music video editing, just for clarification.
Look, I hate the cheese of The Undertaker as the next guy. I don't get the "mind games" and don't understand why they would intimidate someone. And when they are suggested as being "more than mind games," logic and reasoning prevent me from enjoying what I'm seeing. At least, given what we know about The Undertaker and his shenanigans, that segment fit in with the character. Zack Ryder's fantasies being acted out by both of them? Ridiculous. It's the breaking of the fourth wall, as you pointed out, that annoys me about it.
The Undertaker stuff is a ridiculously painted room. But at least it's actually got all its walls.

I see what you're saying, but given the stature of professional wrestling (the WWE at least), I'd say that the Zack Ryder segment is about on par with an actor in a sitcom turning to the camera and winking....actually, it's sort of like Zack Morris calling a timeout to describe his feelings to the audience. I really think they're trying to make Zack Ryder like Zack Morris.
