MANCHESTER – UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is seriously ill in hospital after collapsing in Canada, UFC president Dana White said Saturday.

“He’s in rough shape, he’s in really bad shape,” White said Saturday after UFC 105.

“He is not well and he is not getting any better. . . . He’s very, very sick and he’s going to be out for a while. He’s got a lot of problems.”

Citing mononucleosis, the 32-year-old Lesnar was forced to postpone a title fight against Shane Carwin scheduled for UFC 106 on Nov. 21 in Las Vegas. The fight was pushed back to UFC 108 on Jan. 2, but that too has been postponed.

“He’s got mono and he’s got something else wrong with him. I know what’s wrong with him, he just doesn’t want me talking about it,” White said.

“He doesn’t have cancer or AIDS or anything like this, (but) he’s got some problems, man.”

White said Lesnar was currently in a hospital in North Dakota. The six-foot-three, 265-pounder owns property in Canada, White added.

“He dropped up there and had to go to hospital,” White said.

He said Lesnar may have to go to the Mayo Clinic or another top hospital “to figure out what’s wrong with this guy.”

“He’s not going to be getting well any time soon,” White said.

The UFC has other concerns with fighters. White said the newly announced UFC 108 main event between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez is off because Nogueira has a serious staph infection.

“(It’s) bad, to the point now that it’s in his bloodstream,” White said. “He’s probably going to have to be hospitalized and intravenously given antibiotics.”

Carwin is also out after undergoing knee surgery.

“It’s crazy,” White said of the injuries and illness.



Im not the biggest Lesnar fan in the world but this doesn't look good at all. Hope he gets better a s a p.

I went to the MMA forum just to see if this was posted here. Yeah, it doesn't sound too good. One article suggested that Lesnar, in addition to not being back soon, may never fight again. It's a shame, because the dude was good at it.

I hope Lesnar gets healthy, and can appreciate life even if he has to take a step back from what he was seemingly put on this planet to do (dominate shit). I think I remember him being quite wise with his money, so he should be alright.

Looking Lesnar up on Wikipedia a few weeks back for some reason, it's hard to believe the guy is 32. I remember when he became the youngest WWE Champion ever at 24 years old. Time has flown.

What is septicemia?


Septicemia is the presence of bacteria in the blood (bacteremia) and is often associated with severe disease.

Symptoms
Septicemia can begin with spiking fevers, chills, rapid breathing, and rapid heart rate. The person looks very ill.

The symptoms rapidly progress to shock with decreased body temperature (hypothermia), falling blood pressure, confusion or other changes in mental status, and blood clotting problems that lead to a specific type of red spots on the skin (petechiae and ecchymosis).

There may be decreased or no urine output.

Treatment
Septicemia is a serious condition that requires a hospital stay. You may be admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU).

Fluids and medicines are given by an IV to maintain the blood pressure.

Oxygen will be given. Antibiotics are used to treat the infection.

Plasma or other blood products may be given to correct any clotting abnormalities.

WCCO-TV, which is the CBS affiliate in Minneapolis, adds that Brock Lesnar is suffering from diverticulitis. Diverticulitis is a disease which is usually found in the large intestine. It forms large pouches on the outside of the colon, which then becomes inflamed. Treatment for diverticulitis usually involves no solid food, only being fed through an IV and an aggressive antibiotic treatment. Also, in severe cases, surgery can be required to remove the infected area of the colon. Surgery is usually avoided, unless it is a severe case, which Lesnar's appears to be.

Dana White once again said that he does not know if Lesnar would fight again.

Dana White is saying that Brock Lesnar underwent “minor surgery” today in a Bismark, ND hospital.

White had flown to North Dakota for the surgery, and says that Lesnar is feeling better, but is not sure if he is out of the water yet.

I heard he told the doctors not to use pain-killers and during the operation actually wrestled a nurse to the floor.

According to Dave Meltzer, Brock Lesnar has been released from the hospital and is now recovering at his home in Alexandria, MN. Lesnar's chiropractor, Larry Novotny, stated that there is no statement on Lesnar's career at this time. That decision will be made once Lesnar has time to recover.

chalk it up perhaps as one of those guys that might be added to the list of "athletes cut down in their prime". If he doesn't recover I think you could chalk this up there with Magnum TA or Johnny Valentine getting cut down in their prime....although forseeably Lesnar said he ruled out ever returning to wrestling and that MMA was his real passion.

Brock Lesnar's longtime friend and Jiu-Jitsu coach tells TMZ.com that the UFC Heavyweight champ WILL return to the Octagon -- within 6 months.

Rodrigo "Comprido" Medeiros, a 7-time World Jiu-Jitsu champion, told TMZ that Lesnar "is getting better and that is the most important thing ... He will be fine and be fighting again within 6 months."

Medeiros added, "I can just say that the heavyweights can stop laughing and get ready to start crying because the champion will be back soon."

Lesnar had surgery earlier this week to repair a hole in his intestine. While Lesnar is still in rough shape and has a long road ahead of him, the outlook has improved dramatically from last week when Dana White was saying that Lesnar is "very very sick" and may never fight again.
