View Full Version : Can CM Punk get R-Truth over?

As seen in recent weeks, CM Punk has taken a lesser role on Friday Night SmackDown since dropping the World Heavyweight Championship to Undertaker at last month's Hell in the Cell pay-per-view, instead being placed in a program with perennial mid-card performer R-Truth after months of top-level feuds. While it would appear that he's been demoted, the company is looking to have him assist R-Truth for the time being by putting him over in hope that he reaches main event level status. He can try but he won't succeed. Unless something unseen in R-Truth comes out, he isn't good enough for the top.

Sure, why not? JBL got over as a main event player and who would have called that in Jan-April 2004?

And based on the reaction R-Truth got by attacking Punk and dumping the trashcan of booze on him, I'd say Punk is more than capable. R-Truth isn't great in the ring, but when has that ever stopped anyone from going to the top?

If he drops the rapping on his way to the ring, he'd have a better chance of being a main eventer. I know that's a big part of his gimmick, but he got a good reaction when he just said "What's Up?" when he got to the ring. Maybe he should just keep that aspect of it.

To me, R-Truth's rapping (almost typed "raping") is like Kofi's accent. Dropping that accent has done wonders for Kofi, so the rapping to the ring could do the same for R-Truth.

R-Truth is over at house shows. The crowd will sing along to "What's Up" to their heart's content.

I know that, but they seemed to sing along with it anyway when he was just pointing to them during the song.

Him rapping to the ring, much like Edge and Christian coming through the crowd or Kofi speaking in his "native" tongue, doesn't really scream "big player."

He's already over, he just needs to be taken seriously as a threat to the bigger guys.

DDP had the best "through the crowd" entrance.

I've seen glimpses of a good R-Truth in TNA, but only when he was a heel. As a fece I don't see him getting past mid-card. Putting someone over only works if it is someone who is ready/close to make that next move, which R-Truth is not.

EDIT- I meant "as a face", but I'll leave the typo in for your amusement. Not even sure how I did that one.

He could get him over. I just hope that if Truth isn't over by the end of the programme that the blame doesn't land at Punk's door.

R-Truth as a main eventer? Wow. Perhaps we will see the "Pretty Ricky" gimmick?

No F'ing way... That dude came into my brother's karaoke show in Charlotte, NC and my bro put on his theme music... And he rapped the whole thing once... Crowd was like... Ok, cool.... Then he did it a second time and they we all like WTF is this guy?

He's gonna have to seriously work on his mic skills to be put over...

CM Punk needs to ultimately win this feud. I want to see Undertaker lose at Wrestlemania once...

It could happen, like J.R says, "Anything can happen at WrestleMania."

I don't like R-Truth. He doesn't have the 'X' factor. In the ring he's pretty decent, but he has this charisma, or lack of, that makes me not care.

Amazing how CM Punk just gets "dropped" from main-event status as soon as Batista moves to Smackdown. :nono:

Ron Killings is a good worker, he's got some exciting offence and he works hard. He's just saddled with a shite gimmick.

K-Kwik had more potential than R-Truth does even though it's still Ron Killings.

If anyone in WWE (besides Jericho) can get Truth over, its CM Punk... With his gimmick of being the preachy, "straight-edge" guy, it will allows him to put over pretty much anyone......that and his incredible promo skills & ring work... that also helps

They are booing Punk, not cheering Truth. Unlike Kofi, nothing about Truth's character has changed. There is absolutely no depth to him and no reason to cheer him after this program.

They cheered when he dumped the poison on top of Punk.

If they wanted to make the fans love R-Truth they should have let Punk get the upper-hand. R-Truth needs to be the underdog and earn the fans respect.

Definitely giving Punk too much credit. R-Truth hasn't had a drug scandal, what will Punk talk about?

Do you not see how easy it would be for Punk to call out R-Truth because of his rapper image? Really, Verbose Minch? Really?

That is such a good name for a wrestler. I don't see why they fucked it up by calling him R-Truth or K-Kwik.

R-Truth sounds pretty over to me. Main event potential? Umm, we'll see. But I've liked R-Truth more in recent weeks. He's better when he cuts out the rapping. The rapping does not make me want to like him at all. Give the man depth and a real character already.
