View Full Version : Undertaker v.s. Cena/Jericho WM26 plans...

Earlier this year, a few sources let out the idea of Undertaker v.s. Jericho at WM26 in Phoenix. I was pretty stoked about the idea because the two never seemed to have crossed paths (feud wise) in Jericho's ten years with WWE. It screams candidate for Match of the Year like the year prior. But now talks are going that Cena might take on Taker? Which in my opinion wouldn't live to the hype. And if it would be his last Wrestlemania, would he want to have a match that would equal to his match against Shawn Micheals? It could happen with Jericho...but Cena?
After having what many people say one of the best matches in WM history, and with carrying a amazing undefeated streak, would Taker hanging the boots now be the best thing for him?
Discuss...
Taker and Jericho had a match on Smackdown so by WWE logic the chances of them having a match at Wrestlemania is less.
We have seen some really good matches between Cena and Taker in the past. If they go on to have a match at Mania and if Cena pulls off an upset then I will get a heart attack for sure.

Undertaker/Cena would be a much more of a fit than Jericho/Taker, both in styles and marketability. Plus it could mean that Undertaker beats Cena and then Cena turns heel like Bret Hart at WM13.

if you look at all the past threads about who should end Taker's streak, I've always said John Cena or my own personal favorite pick, Kane. But logically, John Cena should be the guy to do it. He's the biggest superstar of the past five years. I know he's hated on here, but I can't argue with him ending the streak.

I understand the logic behind your reasoning LC but I firmly believe that the streak should NOT be ended. I think ending the streak would serve no purpose. If they were going to end the streak then I think it should be to an up and comer who can then carry on the undefeated streak at Wrestlemania. But I don't think whoever beats Taker could ever possibly live up to it.
Otherwise, leave it alone. It's a great story and adds a certain mystique to the Undertaker that seperates him from every other legend.

I would rather see Undertaker/Cena to be honest. Jericho would obviously lose, Cena brings that uncertainty that they MIGHT have him go over.

Plus, I would much rather see Jericho in a match with someone like Edge or CM Punk.

no, I can certainly see the argument the other way. But with wrestling, it's all about "the moments" for me. I've stayed with wrestling overtime because it's produced so many memorable moments that are frozen in time. And to me, whomever ends the streak, that moment will go down in history as one of the greatest. So to me, it's got to happen.
But I can see the argument for people not wanting to see Taker ever lose at Mania so he'll always have that feat when he finally retires.

I think Jericho and Taker could be a great match, but think about the hype WWE can make around Cena trying to break Taker's streak.
Also, when you look at the Taker Jericho match, it is obvious that Taker would win. When you look at the Taker Cena match, based on past matches, there is that slight possibility that Cena can break the streak.

As far as I'm concerned the feud has already been setup to Taker vs Cena and I believe it is a great choice since it would bring that level of uncertainty. Even though I really like Jericho it would almost feel like a step back from last year and would probably pan out to be the same sort of match. Triple H could be a good choice as well if they decide to not do the DX implosion at WM then it could be The Streak vs Career match.

I guarantee Cena would end the streak, alienating more casual fans in the process...

This is an excellent post and a very good point that you bring up.
Having said that, I would greatly prefer to see John Cena vs. The Rock.
It is not as farfetched as one may think, since The Rock has openly stated that he wants to work with the WWE on certain projects.

Yeah if Cena ended the streak that would be the worst ever.

Oh I'd kill for CM Punk, Jericho or Edge to end the streak.
Unless it was a red herring, I think Vince McMahon's working of the CM Punk VS. Undertaker matches were a sign of things to come.
Orton/Taker was the time to end it, imo, before it became such a large part of Taker. It's now one of the main things that Taker is marketed with. I don't want it ended.

my argument on you guys wanting a "young guy" to end the streak is that the WWE is so bakc and forth with most up anc coming guys that it would be ridiculous to watch say CM Punk to end a streak and then be fighting for the IC Title again in a year. I'd rather have someone like Cena end it because
1) he's been one of the top guys for the past five years
2) he's still young
3) he won't be fighting in the midcard within a year.

Agreed. I would also give a recommendation to a guy like Edge for the same reasons. With Edge however, a victory over Taker might mean more for him then it would for a guy like Cena since Edge still has room to be significantly bigger than he currently is. Unlike Cena, Edge has never been the #1 guy in the company. A victory over Taker at Mania would tip him in that direction for sure.
Having said that, I don't think Taker's streak will ever be ended.

Edge's last Mania match with 'Taker was amazing. I thought it was gonna end then, with the psychology.
Edge ending would be one of the better guys winning, or Punk

This. While Jericho and Taker would probably have, technically, a better match, Jericho's character has changed a bit, so he's no longer after legends hogging the spotlight. Right now, I think Cena facing The Undertaker would be one of the biggest draws the WWE could put forward. Cena ending the streak actually makes perfect sense, from a business standpoint.
If Cena defeats The Undertaker at WrestleMania, he absorbs so much history. He's also young enough to benefit, but definitely established enough that it's no risk putting it on him. Of course, you could also have Cena lose to Taker. Either way -- the fans will be going nuts.
As for what Jericho can do at WrestleMania? Jeri-Show vs. Edge & Christian. Done.
If John Cena vs. Undertaker at Wrestlemania 26 actually happens, and John Cena wins and breaks Undertaker's win streak, that might send alot of people off the deep end.
John Cena would definitely fear for his life.

I would mark the fuck out if it turns out Cena is in cahoots with Vince McMahon, though, and Cena, as the ultimate "company man" is proclaimed by Vince McMahon to be the new "Corporate Champion."

I don't think Taker's streak will ever be ended.
I also am not sure if it would be in the WWE's best interests to have Vince McMahon recreate the whole 'Corporate Champ' schtick....as it's been done numerous times.
I WOULD however, love to see Cena "snap" one day and absolutely rip on the crowd for booing him all these years. A part of Cena's gimmick could then be hating on the fans (i.e. cutting hateful raps on the fans).
I think a Rock/Cena feud could be the catalyst for this. Cena could finally snap at the fans.....for being 100% behind The Rock....a man that "sold out."
