View Full Version : I am sick of competitive multiplayer

It just seems really boring to me atm. Lately when I play call of duty or tekken or whatever, I feel like I'm just "going through the motions". Probably bad phrasing there, but I don't know how to explain it.

I still love local multiplayer, and online co-op stuff is still interesting to me, but I just don't care about anything else.

Not exactly the same thing but yeah, I hardly ever play 'competitively' online at anything. I just don't care enough about winning and with the majority of people online doing whatever they can to win or being twattish about it when they don't, I just don't really bother. Only game I've really enjoyed playing online this year is UFC and that started to suck when every single guy I eventually came up against did the same old shit or quit after losing.

Yeah the whole mentality of the gaming community these days is kind of a part of it. Not a big part of it, but it's a factor. Playing videogames has just become a huge e-dickwaving contest. But I guess that's true of young society as a whole these days and not exclusive to gaming.

And there's nothing wrong with playing to win. That's the point of the game, ffs. But I feel like the need to win has completely overtaken having fun. For example spawn campers, or glitchers, or cheaters. They are so concerned with winning and leaderboards and crap, that they don't even bother playing the game properly. Those people are the extreme, but even people who don't cheat have that mentality. Look at fallen angel. Guy snapped his disc in half because he lost ranked matches. That's fucking mental.

Also, Kalyx, before you say anything, I'm not talking about you. I know you play to win, and you're hardcore about it, but you don't shove it down people's throats. Unfortunately the majority of people online don't share your feelings.

Doesn't really matter anyway, because like I said, it's only a part of it.

Completely agree. I think people focus so much on winning that games stop being fun, people get into shitty moods if they lose, stress, etc. games are suppose to be fun. I agree with the local multiplayer being better. You are with friends and you can joke around, etc.

Maybe because it just pales so much in comparison to local, that it just seems boring to me. So many awesome memories from the n64 days as well. One kid in my neighborhood had a cool tricked out basement, and whenever the weather was bad, we would just hit up 4-player goldeneye/mario kart/wrestling/etc. for hours. Nothing will ever compare to to that, no matter how many multiplayer features a game had.

And the reason is, even tho we played to win, it was always more about fun.

I miss Diva battle royales in smackdown btw. My one friend would always inevitably choose the big show, and hilarity ensued.

Maybe because you suck? :p

Nah, it's not frustration or anything like that. I'm not great, but I don't suck either. And I feel this way even when I'm doing really well.

I don't bother playing FPS games, but my buddy keeps getting his teams hosed on MW2 on a regular basis. Not like, every single time, but often enough. the hosing? Yeah, spawn camping.

I've gotten used to the fact that I'm not "hardcore" enough to be the best or whatever, but these guys often do kill the fun. I'm too "casual" a gamer to enjoy this environment. Not casual as in "I like games for retards and five year olds and should own a Wii," but casual in the sense of "There are things I like more than gaming." Honestly, I can stand to "lose" if I'm having a good time. What I can't stand is a bunch of douchebags sapping the fun out of it so even winning feels like a chore.

Though I do like getting good scores on the leaderboards, and winning, and all that shit. I don't play to lose or anything like that, and I don't have any illusion that other people should, either.

Also, did Fangel actually break his discs because he got so pissed? Seriously?

That's what he said.

lol Holy shit. I get mad when I'm having a bad run of games on MW2 and such, but never break anything or take it out on someone because of it.

I broke a controller once, but only because it took a weird bounce and fell off the balcony. Didn't throw it very hard.

I snapped an Analogue stick on one of my N64 controllers during one of the Starfox 64 battles. I think it was Starfox. Anyway, it was one of those third party deals so the stick was kinda weak, but I was still playing too hard.

Not exactly the same thing, but you know, I was "so in the game."

I get pissed off sometimes yeah, but I still have fun.

I love to win anything I'm competing in, but I'm gracious in defeat. I remember playing Mario Party 64 with a few buddies all the time. We got really into it, but if you lost it was not something I'd get pissed about. Hell, one time I broke a buddies' controller on accident. I was rotating the joystick on his 64 controller and the circular pad on the top of the stick snapped off because I was trying to beat him in a tug of war game on Mario Party.

I remember playing Triple A in Madden too. I wanted to beat him so bad because I talked mad shit before hand, but he beat me and that was that. It was just fun to play someone who didn't "cheese" the game and play like a fucking faggot.

I've never thrown a controller. I've dropped the controller into my lap in pure astonishment of the faggotry the game is creating though.

Oh I'm a big pad thrower when it comes to playing against the CPU :o My pads are usually rattling within a month or so of owning them

I thought you disposed of them after your period. :p

I'm more prone to wear them out from rough use, myself. I don't get the whole throwing thing. I mean, it's more heat of the moment than snapping your discs, but it still seems a bit much to do over a game. Then again, I keep wearing the shit out of my controllers because I'm too rough on them when things get intense, so maybe I can't talk....

When I throw a controller, I'm not whipping a fastball, or anything absurd like that. Usually just toss it 5 ft in front of me in disgust.

If you get that worked up over a stupid video game then you shouldn't be playing. You should be taking Anger Management.

Games can be frustrating. Like I said, I've never actually "thrown" a controller. Just a little toss once in a while, after the 5th time losing to a horribly cheap boss.

Or whenever the main character in shadow of the colossus falls down, because I know I have time to go to the kitchen and make a sandwich before he gets back up.

Yeah, this. Hard bedroom floor adds to the problem.

online multiplayer seems ridiculously overrated to me. the only time i've had anything approaching fun playing xbox online has been with baird and tabooloo. other than that i just end up getting my head kicked in by some exploitative bastard. xbox live might be the worst thing i have bought. except my xbox wireless adapter which was fucking dreadful. anyway.

Im going to clear it up for you guys, the reason I got that angry is not because I lost, its because I lost when the jackass host disconnected from the game or ended the match prematurely.

I have no clue why Infinity Ward thought that would be great idea for an extremely competitive online shooter. I mean I like winning like anyone else but when I lose through no fault of my own it really pisses me off.

I am insanely happy they have Host migration in MW2 (which I plan on eventually getting when I have the $80 spare bucks to get it)

When you are in between jobs and the reason you are changing jobs is because you only get 56 hours in two weeks, 60 bucks is more then I can put on useless crap right now.

(Its $69.99 bud, thats like $78 and change)

Fallen Angel still needs to get Guitar Hero Metallica

I do, that I do.

Yes, it is retarded, I am out a game but no longer am I angry every time I turn on my Xbox, because I loved the game but hated that you spend like 10 mins winning a match only to have a -1 on your record from the next match when the jackass stops it when his team is winning.

Ill make it clear, I dont care about the leaderboards, I just wanted a ratio of at least 1:1

Kane Knight
