if you do watch, vote on what you think is the reason most people don't, but in your post please put that you do watch. Otherwise the poll will err via theoretics (like it matters)

I'm generally not interested in the American Indys, outside of Ring of Honor. I check in on Japanese wrestling every few months, both to keep up with current events and to learn more about its history.

pointless, i.e. if they are good enough they'll make it to the big leagues 1 20.00%
No offense, but this is sad.
I don't blame you though, as this is how the majority of wrestling fans are. Just sucks for companies like ROH and DGUSA who produce superior wrestling compared to TNA and WWE.

I'm not enough of a wrestling fan anymore to care about ROH and try keep up with it.
I really would love to keep up with Japanese wrestling but I have no fucking clue what's going on because I don't know Japanese, and also I don't know where to find recent updates.
I pretty much mostly watch wrestling on Youtube, and by wrestling, I mean old Japanese Stan Hansen matches. I barely watch teh E, unless there is a compelling match on a given week.

you need to invest time in ROH. The only real reason to watch wrestling anymore IMHO. besides mabye to see if TNA can topple WWE.

The one thing about ROH that bothers me is they are so up their own asses about being "real wrestling". Don't get me wrong I don't watch it that much, but it's such a "wink, nudge" smart mark product and it pisses me off. The Code of Honour is gay.
They have great workers and the likes, but when I'm watching it, it's like "These guys want to make it seem like such a pure art form so badly that they're forcing it down my throat", it's like they can't just let pro wrestling be what it is (And no, I don't mean the crap you see in the WWE)
They don't even do the code of honor anymore.

Yeah that was more of a way to separate them from the competition. they quit doing that like 3 or 4 years in (2006 i think)

I remember I used to totally go out of my way to watch ECW (It was on Saturday Nights at like 1 or 2 am on America One Network) back before it had the TNN deal and all. Now I cant even be bothered to watch ROH on HDNet when its on even with a DVR and the ability to auto record it on a 2nd tuner while Im watching something else..
Indifferent Clox
11-25-2009, 02:03 AM
ROH on HDNET isn't as good as ROH ppvs. Some of the matches are fucking amazing, some are ok. Most all of the ROH PPV matches are amazing WM quality.
Most all of the ROH PPV matches are amazing WM quality.
Come on, don't oversell it. Statements like these are why some people don't even bother to watch ROH.

yeah but i'm talking wm 2002-2009 so it's true.

11-25-2009, 02:13 AM
Yeah, WM quality doesn't just mean the quality of the wrestling it self, but the build to the match, the atmosphere, and the story.
Only match in that regard that is wm quality is Joe vs Kobashi.

I probably watch too much indy wrestling, if anything. Oh, and as of this year, PWG > ROH.
Indifferent Clox
11-25-2009, 02:25 AM
F would be other. a, b, c, d, e, f. 6 options. f being other. your statement is "other". maybe you should keep watching WWE pretty soon they'll probably start teaching you how to say your abcs properly. If you got WWE kids magazine you might even be ahead of the curve!

which PWG dvds would you recommend getting?

I didn't say that was wrong. I just thought it was funny that he tried to create a new option his "option F" which was in fact already an option, albiet, I never designated letters for the poll, the option he would have chosen would have been F anyway.

My reason has to do more with growing up watching WWF/WWE and WCW so I'm used to just watching those 2 companies and as a result know more about their feuds and characters than other companies.
Only independent company I ever managed to follow for long periods of time was ECW but only once they got the tv deal with TNN/Spike TV. TNA is more of an on-off style since I tend to forgot more its on TV most of the time and watch when I'm bored or channel surfing.
I tried watching some AAA but since whole thing was in Spanish and all the matches appeared to go in a random flow (several episodes), it was harder to stay focused during the shows.

The reason it took me as long as it did to get into ROH was the same reason it took me so long to get into indie music. I figured if it was all that great it would become mainstream. Then I guess I just wanted to learn about it, so i asked people who already were into it (WWKD, Fignuts, all of you guys here) what the best was to check out. Went online and searched. Downloaded, bought dvds which i watch over and over. I can't see myself watching any wwe ppv over and over especially not one put out during the last 5 years.
That being said, WWE ppvs are about the build up, the feuds, the omgwhatisgonnahappen atmosphere. That's why I watched, and to a lesser extend why I still do.
When I started realizing I liked guys like Chris Benoit, Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, and William Regal wayyyyyy more than everybody else, I started wondering, is their shit like this elsewhere? I remember watching those PPVS and just being so blown away by how I didn't know who the fuck these guys were but they were doing way better than most of the wrestling I'd ever seen. Sure the build up and the feuds went over my head, but the in match build up and psychology was a lot better.
If I just watched WM having not seen the year priors stories etc. and didn't pay attention to what the announcers were saying, a lot of the quality would be lost. I can mute ROH, not even know who is in the ring, and it rarely matters. The Matches are that good.

Tho I have to say I have seen some unreal ring of honour matches. Namely involving Bryan Danielson.

I used to watch a fair amount of indy and japanese wrestling but all that stopped when we, in Britain, lost the wrestling channel. Now the only way I can watch those companies would be to either order videos from abroad, which I can't afford to do, or download it which I don't like to do.
There was a time when I'd consistently watch Noah, RoH, TNA, IWW, 1PW etc etc. It's a shame these products aren't made available to everyone because I'm sure there is at least a decent cry for it.

If I'm to give an honest opinion, here it is: The reason why I don't watch Japanese/Indy wrestling is because based on the elements I currently watch wrestling for, I don't think that I would enjoy it as much. Forgive me if this is ignorant but Indie/Japanese wrestling seems to put alot more emphasis on in-ring ability, the matches, and the performer's attributes (speed, agility, etc). While I think this is all important to the craft that is pro-wrestling, I'm much more absorbed in the character development and storyline aspects of prowrestling. While I know this is still done in the indies, it doesn't seem to have as much emphasis put on it as WWE puts on it.
Also, I'm big into the face/heel dynamic and many of the indies shows I've seen, the fans just cheer for everybody there. Like I said before, If I'm wrong then point it out. Willing to have "my eyes opened" but that's what I've seen so far from what I've been exposed to.

Narc, you might be interested in Chikara. They're usually very story/charactar driven and I think this was one of their best years in those departments.
It's really about actually being able to keep up with it and, to a slightly lesser extent, not knowing where I COULD keep up with watching the shows.
Also, I find wrestling without commentary which I don't know much about hard to watch unless it's a VERY good match. That's why I have problems with Japanese wrestling, the lack of English commentary. But if I'm interested in a talent I will go out of my way to watch it.

I barely find the time to keep up with WWE. I miss like half of all Smackdowns nowadays, even when I know it is the better show. I have NEVER seen ECW, despite one of my all-time favourites being champ there right now. Never watched Superstars either.

There's a ton of reasons why I don't watch. Narc hit the head on a few of them. But my big problem with not caring about Indy wrestling is that I grew up on WWF in th 80's. Around that time, characters were all over the place. Pure wrestling took a back seat to entertainment, so I never got into the whole pure wrestling thing, which is what a lot of popular Indy's are all about.
I love characters, I love storylines, and I love talking. Those three things I care more about the actual wrestling. And another thing is that I have trouble getting into these promotions that preach the whole "pure wrestling" thing when it's all fake. I can't shake that. Yes, I know WWE is fake, but they don't really base thier program around pure wrestling. So it's different to me.
I think ROH just came out with this ranking system and I believe other Feds use it. That to me is just weird because I know it's all fake. Having real systems in place for predetermined matches is strange to me. I don't want to see that kind of stuff in wrestling. I watch MMA for that kind of thing.
I dunno, that's my feelings
