I love looking at a top list and not knowing most of the bands. I used to be able to do this quite regularly, but the more and more i get into music, the less and less surprised I am by the choices when it comes to the end of the year.

I recently started getting into metal, so I have no idea how to gauge what's great and what isn't. I mean I can say what I like, and then I'll listen to some song that sounds (to me) just like it, because i have yet to completely understand the nuances of the genre. I haven't seen how it's grown and I haven't heard the 'genre changers' or the ones who are considered the best.

That being said this lists contains several albums I own from friends of mine who have helped me get started. And it's good to see three albums I liked the best being getting the top ten. That at least lets me know that I'm catching on. TI've never read an issue of decibel, but I really like Baroness. I loved their last album and this one. I hope it gets some cred on the more indie lists too. Def. my fav metal album this year.

Hmm, I've barely listened to any of those. Nice to see Keelhaul in there.

also the converge album is sick and the immortal one is good but nothing that they haven't done before and done better.

I wouldn't say I'm a 'metal ' guy. I guess i'm still an 'indie' guy who listens to some more experimental and/ or underground metal, rap, jazz, and classics.

I just like good music.

And I don't know how I overlooked it, but my drummer used to be in Funebrarum (the band at #40). Small world.
