Rockers of the classic '80s band Tesla claim to be included in the yet-to-be announced (but you totally saw it coming) Guitar Hero 6. In an interview with Brave Words & Blood Knuckles, guitarist Dave Rude revealed "Modern Day Cowboy" -- from the band's 1986 debut album Mechanical Resonance -- will be included in the music title. Rude noted the song was one of three suggestions the band made to Activision when they were pursued to be included.

Not surprised since Guitar Hero is now part of their yearly releases with Call of Duty series. Only good news is they announced weeks ago they will stop releasing too many "expansion" sets like Metalica or Beatles since its killing their overall Guitar Hero sales.

i dunno. they are fun. i will continue to play every guitar hero and rock band game. i want to give dj hero a shot, but i'm not going to buy it. have to resort to goozex (http://www.goozex.com/referral.asp?idr=6191763576306). everyone here should be using that website. i cannot tell you the amount of games i have played because of it. stop trading your shit into gs.

Because there's very little to be innovated that makes a whole new disc worth buying. I haven't bought a GH game since World Tour, but I've bought hundreds of songs from the RB store.
See what I'm saying?
But listen to what I am saying. As long as they keep letting us import most of the songs for $5 from a stupid code on the manual, which can be obtained numerous ways, let them go to GH9764762 or something. We are the real winners. 50+ songs for $5 beats the hell out of anything the RB store can offer.

They bring in enough new stuff to compliment all the new songs, to warrant a purchase imo.
I'm not really tight on money or anything either tho, so whatever.

Bad news is they're now releasing the core games quarterly.
:shifty:
The expansions would be fine if they were something closer to disc based exportable DLC. GHVH is something I only play because I got it free, and GHA was awesome for the ten dollars I paid for it. If I get a good deal on GHM, I'll pobably buy it and give D Mac a chubby. But as full games....They really are hurting themselves with that model, so ditching the expansions is probably good. Yearly? Eh...Probably not so much, but I'm already more or less used to it.

It's Activision. They wouldn't still be making them if they didn't see money to be made. Remember, these people dropped a bunch of titles last year, including Brutal Legend and Ghostbusters.

Not that the people who finally put out the games are any better, mind. Both sold well, but markedly below expectations. It's like they only picked up these games expecting a quick buck or something.
Which is a shame. Tim Schafer's fanbase should be sterilised, not encouraged.
Theoretically, Guitar Hero has sucked since 2, so why waste the time and money?
Guitar Hero 5 is a pretty damn good game.
If you want a more mainstream answer, look at the songs they put on the discs.

Except Activision's model has been damaging the success of the franchise, as well as the genre itself. I'd say that this goes both to the mentality of "why keep making/buying _________" And also demonstrates why this is generally not how game companies work.
Guitar Hero is not Madden. Most games are not yearly franchises, for that matter. Yearly installments are contributing to a stagnant game environment.

Not familiar with Tim Schafer's other stuff, but I have heard good things about Psychonauts. I liked Brutal Legend for what it is. A simple action game about metal. Had a blast playing it and I'll trade it in as soon as I finish it because it's nothing mind blowing, but it is fun. EA is another culprit for cash grabs, but they've been doing some things that actually benefit customers for a change. Picking up the aforementioned titles, bonus DLC in Dragon Age/Mass Effect 2, the Rock Band store. It's all been good.
Heard good things about GH5 too, and I'll probably get the game/guitar combo as soon as it's cheap. But yeah, this quarterly bullshit has too go. Not dropping $70 every 3 months for only 5 - 20 songs I'd actually want to play.
Bad enough with games like FIFA, Madden and all those. I prefer the way they did it with the NBA Street series. It's every 2 years, so each game that comes out has really meaningful changes and additions. NBA Street 2, V3 and Homecourt are so wildly different from each other, but they are an EA sports franchise. Scary, I know. That extra year makes a huge difference. Funny thing is, FIFA has Live Season, which for an extra $5 or whatever, you get roster updates throughout the season to reflect roster changes and individual player performances. With things like that, who needs an annual game? Work on improving the engine every 2 years and they'd probably sell better too.
Picked CoD4 GotY edition a while back. Dunno how it is just yet. Still haven't played. Will get back to you.

Not everyone can play guitar. Just look at Indifferent Clox. Well, he can play guitar, but not in tune, in time, or in any meaninggul sense.
Pretty much anyone can match colours on a "fretboard" and "strum" along. Unless you're colour blind and have a problem with simple deductive reasoning.
People can play Guitar Hero, even if they lack the dexterity to play a real guitar, have fun, and enjoy themselves. Practicing an instrument you suck at year after year is frustrating and sounds awful. Which reminds me....Where's my keyboard?
Pretty sure most of the people who play call of duty would never be mistaken for a frat boy.

I always thought Band Hero was a panicky reaction to LEGO Rock Band anyway, there was really no plan to differentiate. Activision scaling back the GH series, most likely nixing Band Hero in the process, would show how little they thought of it.

Anyway, with no more Band Hero in the likely future (Activision killed Red Octane, stripped a couple of their other devs, and reduced their release schedule to just GH6 and DJH2), there's certainly no difference now.

I thought Band Hero was announced before Lego Rock Band. I may be wrong here, but I coulda sworn it went down that way.
Anyway, the fact that their revenues were down 33%, which was also what led them to dropping the Band specific Hero titles, is probably more an indication of why. I mean, they nixed everything but the main deal and DJ Hero. Which surprises me, because DJ Hero was filed under disappointment. But still, I think it demonstrates a sinking plane mentality...They're simply cutting weight wherever they can.

Well, it probably costs a fuck load to get the bands to agree to the band specific titles. I've only played Aerosmith, but seeing as they actually had to sit the band down for interviews and videos Activision probably forked over a nice percentage of the profits for each of those titles (probably a fuck ton more for Metallica than the others). Then you have to consider that in order for a game like that to be successful, your audience has to have a console the game is on AND be a reasonably big fan of the band. That's kinda limiting.
Then there's DJ Hero. Good god, this game is incredibly fun. Fucking retardedly hard, but retardedly fun too. But there are problems:
1. Yet another peripheral. More space in the closet and/or basement taken up and it jacks up the cost of the game.
2. Speaking of cost: $200+ for the Renegade edition? For what? A fucking CD and a cheap ass table? Fuck you, Activision, Jigga and Shady. Fuck you all in your asses.
3. The Guitar Hero cartooniness is still there. Have they learned nothing from Rock Band's continued domination? Really?

Activision had an old school business mentality about their brand. They assumed people were stupid enough to bite anything with a certain title on it. It simply doesn't work that way. There are less fanboys on Earth. People are smarter (relatively), and they will go to the better value/quality. I could have told them their plans for 2008 was overkill and would bite them in the ass.

Those games sold pretty well for a couple of months. Band Hero and DJ hero sold worse than Met. And let's no forget that VH and Met were the two most anticipated by the actual GH community.
I don't like either band, but they are two incredibly commercially successful acts. I think it's pretty clear that the userbase is installed.
It's also pretty clear that with large swaths of games coming out, these unique, non-exportable titles are harder sells, especially when they could release them as DLC. Guitar Hero/Activision flooded the market. They paid the price.
Also, while you may be right about DJ Hero, I think the install base for such a game and such a peripheral is much lower. I'll give it a try when I can get it cheap, but it's the sort of thing with limited appeal to me, and I have almost every fake plastic guitar game on the market since GH1.
I think that's why it was commercially disappointing. Then again, it was part of the Hero glut, which is enough by itself. We'll see how 2 does in a year without all those pesky spinoffs.

They assumed people were stupid enough to bite anything with a certain title on it.
Yeah, how asinine of them to assume something that is born out by sales of franchises with a certain title on it. :lol:
The problem wasn't so much that their idea was too "old school," The problem is that even now that music games are "mainstream," they still don't have the same level of commercial viability. They also require a significantly stronger investment than other franchises. Which yes, means in the end it was easy to tell you how bad this was going to fail, but apparently you got to the right conclusion with the wrong math.

Perhaps it was one bad PR cycle too many, but it looks like famous musicians as playable characters will be a thing of the past in the Guitar Hero franchise. This is according to the first details on Guitar Hero 6, coming out of the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine (via GoNintendo).
While they won't be playable, that doesn't mean famous musicians won't be featured in the game at all -- in fact, both Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich and KISS frontman Gene Simmons are both confirmed to appear in the game. Simmons will narrate a brand new "Quest Mode," where players will "recruit" other rock stars and unlock their "song sets" along the way. You can also unlock the musician's "alter ego" (such as Lars becoming "Warrior Lars") which give you bonus powers, like x6 point multiplyers instead of x4. The fact that you apparently unlock "song sets" also seems to suggest that bands in Guitar Hero 6 might feature more than one song, but that's just speculation for now.
There are a few more confirmed details, though, including Queen, Black Sabbath, and (naturally) KISS confirmed to have songs in the game; the return of past (fictional) Guitar Hero characters; the ability to carry over previous DLC songs; the ability to sustain open bass notes; the legendary CBGB as the only real-world location in the game; and a few more intangible details like a supposedly "back to basics approach" and "much bigger focus on rock 'n' roll."

The Beast defeats the demigod of rock and the demigod of rock is entombed in stone and his legendary guitar is banished," Bright said. "[The guitar] is the source of his power. And so you are going through and assembling an army of warriors to be able to defeat the beast. Along the way, you'll have to recover the legendary guitar…" Guitar Hero characters like Lars Ümlaüt and Johnny Napalm also appear to have the ability to transform into a blue-skinned goblin and a half-man, half-boar warrior, respectively.

Yeah, an open string likes to vibrate on its own. It took me a little while to warm up to the whole open note bit because I'm used to open tones being represented the same way everything else was, but it's fairly accurate as is.
I doubt this will be a game breaking deal, but it is kind of dumb.

The neck of the guitar (the entire line, rather) houses the electronics while the body can be swapped out for different designs. The two metal designs could be swapped out for an acoustic design, for instance. Looks trippy, but I still like the Beetles axes better.

Solid game, but I should be able to recognize that I'm playing Misirilou. Also, Queen should have gotten a solo game instead of fucking bullshit Green Day.

3 has a pretty terrible song list. I can understand an even division between roughly a third awesome, a third crap and a third meh. But a quarter awesome, and the rest crap just isn't cool. The bonus songs are even worse. Plus the presentation seemed to be going in the wrong direction. Fucking Neversoft.
And Metallica is about as relevant as Cartman's rendition of Poker Face for Rock Band.
Kane Knight
06-20-2010, 11:15 PM
You have a point on the covers. Some were awful.
They should have at least held out the Queen DLC until they added piano and multivox support. And they're certainly more deserving than Green Day. Like twice the catalog, incredibly successful, and more hits. Even if one argued Queen was undeserving, it's insane to think Green Day should get the same treatment as the fucking Beatles.
Also, GH3 was the first game I never bothered to get good at, largely because I didn't like most of the songs in the higher tiers. GH1 and 2 I practiced my arse off. GHWT I worked at quite a bit. Bock Band? I didn't love everything, but I loved enough that I kept at it. GH3? Booooooring.

I've been hoping, actually. They did the same for the hammer-on chords between RB and RB2. It's technically possible, given Beatles: Rock Band tracks don't seem larger despite multitrack vocals.
I'm not going to get ahead of myself, but I do hope it's true.
Either way, bohemian Rhapsody will have three part vocals in one, and be part of some gay S&M fantasy only Auspie Kalyx and D-Mac will enjoy.

to be fair, both SH and GH5 have been part of massive deals, so you could have got them for good prices. I mean, I got GH5, a guitar, a mic, and the soul of two of the developers for less than the cost of the game itself.

Usually, it's only niche games that end up like that. The first GH was like that for a long time, because it was totally a "niche" deal. More recent titles should be like ten bucks each in a year.
I think part of it is all those deals ended up front-ending the market.

Eh, basically identical to GH5 with a story mode added. Rental only.

Quest mode seems incredible gay, not bothered by this whatsoever. Atleast they have cleared up the screen clutter.
okay so i just got 9 stars on a song and only got an 88%

The review seemed rather accurate for a 6. Though the "perks" system sort of intrigues me. Probably should stay with MW2 though.

Rented it. It's brand new so hopefully I can get the Metallica import for free. It works with GH5 I think.

Redeemed the code off of the Warriors of Rock manual and it worked. Got the GH Metallica import for free. :cool:
Now I can play the greatest band ever on multiple games.

Does it? Does it really?

Yes, yes it does. And I have it and you don't. :cool:
How did you get it into GH5. Is the import option in the menu now, or did that code from WoR give it to you.
Guess it doesn't matter. The copy at Blockbuster was missing the manual and I'm not sinking anymore money into GH5.

The code from WOR gave it to me. But the import option is there. Costs 480 MS points I think.

And you have to have a valid code from the GH Metallica manual.

It's only the best GH ever.

If you mean "Gay Hetfield," then yes.
But "Guitar Hero?" No way.

So Neil Young is in this.
That is awesome news. Means we could get dlc for rockband in the future.

Linkin Park tracks!
...From their latest album (not 'band game' worthy)...
...For 12$:
* "Blackout"
* "Burning In The Skies"
* "The Catalyst"
* "The Messenger"
* "Waiting For The End"
* "Wretches and Kings"
Who chooses these songs? There's LP tracks I'd kill to play in a band game (but not even in this band game, though).
So angry right now.

Yeah I beat Quest mode last weekend and took it back to Blockbuster. Done with new Guitar Hero games maybe forever. On to Rock Band 3.
i'm going to quote that when you rent gh 7

I said "maybe". If the next GH is compatible with the RB pro guitar and has a good setlist I might consider it. Or if GH Metallica 2 comes out.

Yeah, at least D Mac isn't one of those asshats who claims he's definitively done.
This game is getting about 75% on GameRankings. I can't say that I adhere to ratings, but the complaints seem to all be ones that would keep me from bothering. Though I'll totally get this when the price drops, even if it's not all that great.
Which reminds me...I should look into GH Metallica soon.

I played the four songs I liked that aren't on another game and then laid the disc to eternal rest.
Rock Band 3 is amazing even without the new instruments :heart:

You should. The note charts are really fun. You'd have to really hate metallica to not enjoy it.
