It's hard, but not frustratingly so.

Helps that you have infinite lives.

Also, the only emulator I've gotten it to work on is fce ultra, btw.

Working fine in NESTopia for me.

Finished the first world. Based on that, I'd say it's not Nintendo difficulty but it's not the insane difficulty you get from a lot of rom hacks for the sake of being hard.

Loving it so far.

Just put it on FCE Ultra GX so I can play it on my Wii. Gonna play the hell out of it now I have a controller.
